Struggling through some withdrawal

After I made the switch to ecigs completely, I've been having drastic mood swings. I feel chemically imbalanced but the funny thing is I don't crave a cigarette at all since I enjoy vaping and am getting enough nicotine. But there definitely must be something else that's giving some of us "withdrawel" symptoms. I directly linked my mood swings to stopping analogs because it happened almost immediately. I have been thinking to see a shrink because it gets really bad sometimes.

I can only imagine if I stopped cold turkey and never even vaped. It would've been even worse so I thank ecigs in that respect. I hope these mood swings go away soon.

One of the active chemical compounds in tobacco acts as an MAO inhibitor...which is what the early anti-depressants were. I've actually taken prescription MAOI's in the past, and for me the withdrawal from tobacco is just about analogous to the withdrawals I had from the MAOI's, right down to the tummy troubles.

My DH who started vaping and quit analogs at the same time I did (Three weeks today!) had none of these sorts of withdrawal symptoms.

I personally think that different body chemistries latch onto different compounds in the smoke. But, I'm neither a doctor nor a biochemist so wtf do I know?

Your mood swings should calm down. At least that's what my doc says about mine....;) He told me to give it no less than a month and a half for all the crap to clear out.

Your mileage may vary.

I'm so glad to hear that a different model of e-cig has helped.
Really, I have nothing new to add--just decided that some of the thoughts shared on this thread are important enough to bear repeating. ;)

While for some folks, the transition from analogs to vaping is practically seamless and painless, for others, it's a harder road. When I first decided to try e-cigs, I never intended to quit. I mean, I had tried to quit so many times before (without success) that it just seemed to be pointless to try again. Rather, I was trying to cut back on my 2+ pack a day habit. I figured if I cut back to one pack a day, I'd be happy. By that measurement, you're enjoying ASTOUNDING success!

I wound up being one of the lucky ones, making the transition in a matter of a few days. However, even so, I'd have my moments where I'd really crave an analog. I think part of it was I'd start to think about how I was no longer a smoker, how I'd "never" have another cigarette, and even though I was happy vaping and knew that I was getting my nicotine, I'd start feeling kind of panicked.

Lacey Underall (a wise voice on this forum) said that she viewed the transition from tobacco to vaping not as quitting smoking, but, rather, as switching brands. (She didn't make the switch immediately, taking quite some time to become totally tobacco-free.) When I looked at it that way, as a brand change, I felt less panicked when I thought about cigarettes.

When the cravings would get serious, I'd spike my e-cig with a high nic concentration, and it almost always did the trick.

A couple of times I decided to try an analog just because . . . the first time (a week or two into my vaping), I put it out after several puffs because it tasted and smelled nasty. The next time I tried an analog a few weeks later, I managed two puffs before stopping in disgust.

I'm now into my 4th month of being tobacco-free (except for those two or three aborted attempts at smoking--and not even a full cigarette), and every once in awhile, I still think about a cigarette . . . but I don't get that panicked feeling, primarily because I've been vaping long enough now that I KNOW I really don't need a cigarette, that I've got a new "best friend" who certainly is nowhere near as toxic as my old "best friend."

Continue to focus on your success. Cutting down like you have is no small thing. And, in time, you'll no doubt move more and more towards vaping until you decide that it's no longer worth it to bother with the analogs. :)

6 days cig free so far. I came from 20-30 a day at times, previously a 40 a day smoker no less than a year ago.

I had to cut down to 25 max per day due to struggling for breath in my day job.

then I started to feel pain and cough up lots of crap and I found this site shortly after spending about a month feeling so bad and guilty and like my death from smoking related disease was imminent if I was not careful here, but I still even with this incentive struggled to cut down let alone give up.

I bought a tecc titan 510 and so far so good - still the odd craving and yes, I do not feel completely relaxed at the moment, but I am sure this will disappear in time.

I am hoping to not smoke any real cigs ever again provided this isn't banned and I can always get my hands on juice.

it is a -PERFECT- replacement in my opinion and I am already considering buying lower than 18mg juice to reduce my dependency slowly, so as I can settle down at 11mg juice eventually and vape to my hearts content.

I cannot seem to put it down seems to be the worst side effect from me, charging the batteries very frequently, dripping alot, constantly topping off my carts for maximum boost.

it is getting better, day by day...

well done to those who are winning anyway, if it was not for the pain they cause me and the problems I would have probably cut down gradually to convert to ecigs in the form of maybe 5 real cigs a day then 3 then 1.. but the price was too much for me.. pain or no pain and a bit of withdrawl - had to be the latter.

a toast to those suceeding though indeed! it is hard!

have a little faith people :)
