This thread is helping me a lot. I get my first e-cig starter kit tomorrow and because I'm a master quitter (and a master re-starter) I know that nic-only is still gonna let the cravings for all the other crap in analogs creep through. Knowing that you can adjust the strength (and by how much) is very encouraging. I'm sure its not perfect but if helps to take a little more of the edge off that's great, and just what I need.

Thanks andyrox!
PS - It may sound dumb but drinking lots of water helped me way more than I thought it would.

I think you should raise the nic level in your juice to at least 12mg, probably closer to 18mg, or you run the risk of giving up on vaping and turning back to cigarettes. The symptoms you describe remind me of how I felt when I tried to quit cold turkey. Every time I tried - and failed.

I agree with this. Up your strength. For me it was a lot easier because I hated smoking. The taste, the smell. I vape 0mg.

Yes it does take a week or two but after that you'll be fine but I woul up the nitotine level to at least 12 if not 16 it's easy to cut down from there. Aslo the nicotine isn't the bad part of smoking it's the tar so up the nicotine and slowly drope down as you get used to it all. Also find a juice you really like that helped me allot.

All the best and keep on vapeing.

Neil.

Drinking lots more water than we were accustomed to is good advise. Number one, most people don't drink enough water to begin with. More water will help detox all those accumulated toxins that we accumulated for cigarettes. And finally, the propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin (PG and VG) in the e-liquids are humectants. They attract water, and rob water from out body as we vape. So this must be replaced to prevent dehydration.

Did you smoke when you first got up in the morning? What was your smoking pattern?... when did you smoke the most? After you look at that, those times are when you need the most nic. Have two strengths loaded 12 or 16mgs (whatever the highest is for you) for those times and 6mg for the rest of the time when just fun or chain vaping. As you level down, (which takes a long time) mix the lower with the higher. I always buy at least two strengths of the same flavor for this reason and sometimes three if I'm getting a zero nic to mix with the lowest mg juice. Hope that made sense. I don't know what your setup is but I use cartomizers and do my different strength mixing by dripping right on it. But I always have one carto with only the highest mgs on it for emergency times and first thing in the morning which is when I want nic the most.

Edit: just reading what I said.. this is how I do it but you could just buy two... your highest and a zero nic in the same flavor for mixing it down. I buy three just for convenience. And I whole-heartedly agree with what Strigoi (below) says. We're all different and you'll find folks who put em down and never looked back and there are those I refer to as "purests" (no offence intended) who will white-knuckle not to smoke. Personally, I found focusing on NOT smoking kept me focused on smokes and that's not good. I had one when I wanted one exactly so I didn't think of them. After doing the highest nic in the morning, dropping to lower in the afternoon I found that at 3pm I hadn't had one and it was the first time in the day I even thought of it.... I allowed myself one then so that it would not be on my mind. Most who do it this way only whined up smoking 3 a day. If you aren't a purest, that's not a bad thing.

On average it takes 12 weeks to make a lifestyle change- dieting, quitting smoking, etc. There are so many mental and physical triggers with analogs too. I've done well by alternating vaping with an analog at first, and over time decreasing the analogs. I always smoked in the garage, and it helped me to vape out there as well- just something subconsciously familiar about that, and I think it helps my brain associate vaping with the reward of a nic hit, rather than analogs.

I'll probably be in the minority here, but if you REALLY think you need a cig, try one. You've been without a cig for a week, it won't kill ya to have one just to remind you how nasty they really taste. If you got some laying around still, take a puff. You'll ptobably surprise yourself.

At this point in the game, it's not the cigarettes that you smoke, it's the ones that you don't.

I fully agree with you there. Having a cigarette when you're really craving one isn't the end of the world.

I don't get why people think they have to 100% give up cigarettes as soon as they start vaping. If you really want one, have one.

I think everyone is different. As a 15+ year smoker who could never quit for more than 8 hours, making it almost a week is huge for me and I really don't want to tempt it if that makes sense. Lol

Anyone know the time comparison for how long the nic from the an analog hits you versus an e cig?
I don't have that information. However, I would suspect that vaping is a somewhat less efficient method of nicotine delivery than smoking is. I can chain vape without any symptoms of nic overdose (same symptoms as too much caffeine: headache, dizziness, nervousness, shakiness or minor hand tremors). But this will differ from individual to individual, and on what nicotine strength is being vaped.

I do know that nicotine in vapor is absorbed more in the mucous membranes of the mouth, throat, and nose. Therefore, it's really not necessary to inhale the vapor into the lungs to receive the nicotine. Many new vapors who initially have issues with coughing with vaping, can get by with just holding the vapor in their mouth then releasing it through their mouth and nose.

In fact, it's wise to know that years of smoking have damaged your taste buds. Exhaling through your nose can help you "taste" your flavors in e-juice, as our sense of smell plays a major part in our brains to interpret the flavors of food we taste.

Ok thanks. I wondered if this is all about my nic levels being too low. I'm probably not vaping enough regardless of the mg.

I started on 24mg with the intention of cutting down but at the moment am still on it. Never pinned for a cigarette at all though.

I think most people vape differently to how they smoked. I take a couple of vapes quite often as opposed to 15/20 drags all at one go.

Stick with it mate. Better 24mg than back on cigarettes.

The day I started vaping I stopped having cravings for analogs. After 3 months, I feel the cravings for an analog every once in a while. There's nothing wrong with having one here and there IMHO. I've had a few in 3 months, it's definitely better than smoking a PAD!!! Do whatever keeps you from smoking what you were. If you have one here and there...who cares!!!

Not all of us can do that. For me its an all or nothing proposition. NEVER assume that everyone else is exactly like you, especially when it comes to vaping.
