I've actually short circuited them by accident in my pocket (with some keys and change... I know, real smart) The worst that happened was they got hot and burned my leg little. No explosions, no gases, just hot. and... they still work :)

I've shorted a set out before also  to the point where the one battery connector spring collapsed some. Batts still work and I eventually replaced the spring just because.

I hit up Staples yesterday and got a killer deal: a 1-hour DuraCell quick charger, 2 AA batts & 2 AAA batts - all for $4,50! Un-freaking-believeable! I was trippin' when I saw that one LAST one hanging there on the shelf... It even included a car charger for the unit! I can charge on the go now. Regular price was something like $30 + for it.
My first 'PuckMod' is a-building right now. I oopsied and got the freaking "Always Closed' momentary switch at Radio Shack. DOH! I need to swap it out for the 4-pack of "Always Open" ones. For $3,69 you get a packet of 4 switches.. just a little bump on the way to my first real savings mod! Paying $40 plus for someone else to make it for you just plain sucks in my opinion... oh, and while I'm at it, I just might 'mod' the Mod I bought from the ECF Registered Supplier here! Convert it into a Puck!
Also, I peeped the ECF 'Battery Safety' Thread - and it verified that Ni-Mh batts do NOT need protection and are perfectly safe for mods. Those using the chancy Li-Ion and other Lithium rechargeables are just wasting their $$ in my opinion.
Thanks again to you, "The Puck" for this thread. You're going to save a lot of vapers here a ton of $$$. My hat is off to you!

As promised, here is the pic of the 2 Pucks I just finished. 4,8 Volts. They rock. They roll. They have great warm vapour. They cost around $12,- to build. I'm not counting the unused spare parts, such as the dead cartomizer or thread adapter I used.
Basically, for the monies spent, and for their performance, they kick some ....!!
The larger one is AA, and the smaller one is AAA.

Great job! You may find it hard to use anything else after you get used to the amount of vapor your getting. I know using a regular 3.7 e-cig is now almost impossible for me. That AA Puck should last you quite a while before having to recharge. The nice thing about it now is you can whip one of these together in a couple of hours and never have to order batteries again. And no worries on draining the batteries dry and having them explode. NiMHs are built to be abused :)

Again, great job on your two builds. They look like they are put together pretty nicely from your photos. :)

Thank you! I have noticed the AAA batts last between 8 hours of vaping and up to 12 hours. I've been using new batts, and am now trying out some that I've had for almost a year. The AA batts last 1 to 2 days.
But the voltage difference sure is noticeable - I can vape a 2 OHM up to a 3 OHM carto - and I've noticed the 1,5 OHM cartos burn juice - give you that burnt taste that burns your throat. So I backed off the 1,5 OHM cartos. The AA OG Puck is kinda heavy, but it sure lasts. I take both Pucks out when I go into town. And the cartos are very thirsty - they're juice hogs. But the increased vapour is well worth it!
Sure wish I'd happened across this thread before I started spending $$ on e-cig batts and that other boxmod I got from a ECF supplier here. Would have saved a buttload of $$. But I'm saving now.
I hope more folks start getting into The Puck too. Let's see the Chinese copy this one!!
Can anyone say, "Pimp my vape"? LOL The Puck kicks serious vapour out! For real.

Welcome to the Pucksters, Alžběta! :D
Hi TomCatt. First, I think you have a kool avatar - that is one cute kee-kee vaping! And thank you for the warm welcome! I'll never go back to 3,7 e-cig Chinese made batts again. Or buy another mod - no need to.
Sure am glad I didn't drop all those $$ on mods like 'Prodigy', 'Great Lakes Vapor mod', 'Screwdriver', various variable voltage mods, etc. Nope. 4,8 volts is all I really need.

Funny you should mention the Chinese... I received an email from a Chinese manufacturer a few days ago offering to manufacture Pucks for me. The Puck is more of a do-it-yourself thing. It's like building one of those car model kits like I used to do in my younger days. I think you get more satisfaction and feeling of accomplishment out of building it yourself. I have built a few for other folks because they couldn't but I truely believe Pucks should remain a do-it-yourself mod :)

Interesting news ThePuck. Keep us updated.

Truthfully, if this mod concept can make you some bucks, I'd say go for it. I'm thankful for the fact that you shared your concept and process for producing this mod. But each time I complete one I'm amazed that I still have intact fingers and end up with a working product :D. I'm sure that there are people out there, probably only a few, more fumble fingered than me who would appreciate being able to buy a device like this.

Kudos to you ThePuck!!

Yah I was wondering too, how long it would be before the Chinese saw The Puck and wanted to copy it. I'm betting that sometime in the near future... 'suddenly' - a 'new product' will be available from China and it will be just that: The Chinese Puck. I am quite sure a lot of their reps surf these Forums and look for ideas to COPY. I have come to realize that much of the stuff that Suppliers and other Vendors tout as 'the newest' and 'the best yet' are just new prototypes of JUNK they want to foist on us vapers. And, sad to say, I've fallen for some of that hype - not a lot, but enough to know better.
I say The Puck is the best thing going right now. Using good ole US of A 'old skool' batts that you can buy anywhere is the way to go, and it's going to put a real bite in the pockets of these Chinese companies who sell us their LOW-MaH batts. Like ThePuck said earlier on here - I am not going back to 3,7 Volts Chinese batts. Nope. The vapour is cold compared to the warm 4,8 Volts of The Puck. I had thought about making a third Puck with 6 Volts, but after testing out vaping with that high of a voltage, it burns the juice too easily. Now for someone who wants to vape 4 OHM cartos, it would work. I'm currently vaping 2 OHM and 3 OHM and they work just fine. I have a few diaper-and-wadding cartos left, and am experimenting with CE-2 cartos (2 OHM) right now. So far, they work pretty darned good. And I agree that for those unfortunate few vapers who are not hands-on mechanically inclined, someone here could build them a Puck..
I still am so happy over spending $12,- and getting 2 killer Pucks out of the deal. Money well-spent, in my opinion!!!

+1 a NiMH production model could be a game changer. The simplicity of buying batteries anywhere, replacement spare parts anywhere, OK juice from a vendor :) but.. but......

Ha! We just might put many of these so-called vendors out of business! I make my own e-juice. Sure, it's no nico in it, but then so what? I just mix mine with some el cheapo DeKang direct from the Chinese Manufacturer. I have - not bragging, really - just making a point here - close to 3 Litres of e-juice. I vape a 50-50 PG/VG blend. Only thing I'm going to be buying from these folks in the future is cartos and juice, and not that much of either.. I'm at the point where I don't care of my juice has nicotine in it anyway, and once I get to where I don't even want the stuff - then it's all "home-made backwoods juice" for me. I've even thought about playing around with rebuilding some of my dead cartos. It can't be 'that' difficult..

I mentioned 'The Puck' Modd in another Thread and linked them to the thread where it says, parts easy, etc. We get enough Pucks 'born' folks will take notice. And I enjoy my 2 Pucks - they go EVERYWHERE with me. The smaller one is great for stealth vaping... Belks. Macy's. Any grocery store. Restaurants. I'm looking forward to taking one on a plane one of these days... hope they don't think it's a bomb or something....... you know those TSA types - pretty suspicious about everything!
