Hey I have a question about li ion batteries in mech mods, and wondering how these nitecore batteries would work.

nitecore nl188 18650 li_ion rechargeable batteryB

Originally for high end flashlights but wondering if it would work similarly. Reason I ask is my brother works at A store That Sells These and so I can get the batteries easily and at a discount. Just wondering because I cannot find anything about an amp rating besides a 11.5wh which I think would suffice for a kick2 if I wish to venture down that road.

If I understand that wh measurement it's how many Watts per hours it is rated to handle? Plan is to use a rda with a nemesis and an 18650 with kick to help add safety and a "standard" power without having to worry about drop off and also over discharging my batteries to help prolong their life.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, just doing research before I jump into some major investments, already love vaping just want to take it to the next level and a little more "clouds" and vapor that I am getting now with my ego twist.

You want a LiMn battery, IMR or Hybrid (AW IMR, Sony VTC, Panny etc) a Lithium Ion battery will likely not have an appropriate C Rating to deliver the proper amps to power a mech. (or any PV)

11.5Wh is NOT a C rating - 11.5 Wh. is 11.5 Watt Hours and relates directly to the mAh of the battery - which is only an idea of the amount of time it stays in the nominal voltage range.

After a LOT of google-fu I did locate the C rating of the specific Nitecore battery in question - Max Discharging Current 2C A. At 2, you would not be able to use it at all for vaping.

There are 2 things you need to know about a battery. The amount of energy they contain and how fast they can release that energy.

Most li batteries have something like 1100mah on them. This is a measure of how much energy they can hold. In this case they can hold enough energy to provide 1100 mili amps over the span of an hour. If you wanted to drain the battery over 2 hours then you could get a constant 550 mili amps.

How fast the battery can deliver that energy is not stated on most batteries. You might get it from the manufacturer who might say the battery is a 2C or 20C. This means that the battery can supply 2 times or 20 times the mah number. For our 1100mah battery that means it could supply 2.2 amps or 22 amps.

When you get out the 1100mah the voltage of the battery drops and if you keep getting energy from it it the battery will no longer be able to hold the 1100mah. Bad for the battery.

If you ask for more amps than the battery is rated for, say 4 amps for our 2C battery) horrible things happen. The battery will get hot and go into thermal run away. This will destroy the battery and may give off hot flammable gasses or, in rare cases, explode.

A mech mod is nothing more than a battery holder with a switch and will do anything, draw more energy than the battery has or draw higher amps than the battery is capable of.

The kick2 is kind of like the guts of a VV/VW mod and turns a mech mod into kind of a VV/VW. This brings some safety. It shuts off when the battery is drained and it has a limit of how fast it will release the energy.

The only problem you might have is that the kick2 might ask for more amps than your battery can supply. I do not know either how many amps the nitecore nl188 can supply or the kick2 will ask for. You need to go to both manufacturers and find out.

Lol ok thanks a lot everyone, was thinking why not buy the battery the charger I'm going to get is made for, also like I said with my brothers savings, thinking I'm gong to just stick with the aw imr 2000mah. Figured though with li ion (like my mechanics tools) the power would be constant until it just fell off.

Sticking with the standard I guess. Isn't always a bad thing

So I have a ton on Nitecore 3100mAh batteries, and I took the label off to find a Panasonic NCR18650A MH12210 underneath. I removed the protection circuit, so is this alright to vape with on my stingray with a Tobh? 2014-06-18 23.06.52.jpg
