I'm giving serious consideration to switching from smoking to the NJOY king.

I have read some of the reviews and while the product seems to be smoking without smoking (which is what I want) the hangup appears to be the cost vs the battery life.

One person in one of the reviews indicated in his study that the battery life was 1 hour 45 minutes. I typically smoke a cigarette in 5 minutes. If my math is right one NJOY king to me would last approximately 18 cigarettes or close to one pack per king. Am I correct in assuming that say smoking 5 minutes per hour for 18 hours will consume one battery?

Checking the local stores on the NJOY website. The 7-11 I get my smokes from its like 22 and change for 3 packs vs 24 and change for 3 packs minues 6 cigs. While this is a loss I'm still thinking of making the switch and taking the loss an while hoping for a price drop.

I'm very new to "vaping" am I making sense?

Welcome, neps84!
You're making sense. Congratulations to researching before buying. I don't know the NJOY king, but I don't really think the battery life really isn't that great. I'd say get something bigger and better, but everybody's different. Help the forum members out:
What kind of cigarettes do you smoke now?
How many cigarettes do you smoke a day?
How much are you willing to spend on your initial setup?
Finally, does it have to be a cigarette sized, or can it be a larger form factor?

I've been smoking for nearly 30 years.

I used to smoke Marboro 100's 2 packs a day.
I stopped and smoked filtered cigars for awhile.
I now smoke Marlboro light menthols more than a pack a day but less than a pack and a half a day.

Here is utopia. I like to walk into my corner store and buy e-cigs at around my current cost or less and basically smoke them like a cigarette. ie hop in the car get on the highway smoke it for 5 minutes and put it in the box. I'm not set against a "setup" but am not really looking for one. Partially because I'm not sure how it all works and no one has explained how it all saves money.

The thing that attracted me to the njoy (and I've been researching the blue) is because I see them in the stores and they look and feel like a cigarette.

There is a part of me that wants it to be exactly like a real cigarette so I can smoke it in a bar and say fu to all the non smokers who have seen fit to infringe on my legal right to smoke.

I'm on a tight budget so while not impossible to get some kind of starter set it would be easier to simply go from one purchase to another the once or twice a week I buy cigarettes.

I had hoped someone else would step in by now, and kind of hoping someone still will that at least knows blu and njoy. In the meantime:
If you really want a cigalike, the Smokeless Image Volt is well regarded here, and you can refill them. I'm not sure if you can do that with the two you mentioned. I know that some people started with the ones you mentioned, and defend them as what got them off the smokes, even after they moved to bigger and better things.

If they are about the same cost as regular cigarettes and them being in a store is practical for you, then I wouldn't hesitate to give them a shot, but don't give up on ecigs altogether if you don't like them. There are much better alternatives out there.

If you're on a tight budget, I'd definitely recommend moving to something else eventually. There are much cheaper ways to "vape" (use ecigs).
Good luck! :)

Welcome! I don't vape Njoys but my husband does so I'll pass along what I can...

The pros are of course that they look and feel like a smoke and they're very convenient. Convenience is why my husband picked them; he wanted to be able to go to the store, get an e-cig like a regular cig, and be done with it. The cons are more numerous. Battery life is small. The amount of vape time you get for the cost is very small. You are restricted on flavor options and nicotine levels.

While he says he is going to stick with Njoys, my husband has a habit of taking over one of my eGos when he's at home. The Njoy died, it's too strong, it's not strong enough, what have you. Plus he's finding it's MORE convenient to grab some of my juice stash than it is to go to the gas station to get another set of Njoys. Oh the irony...

The initial start up cost of a better-than-Njoy kit (whether it be a cig-a-like along the lines of a Volt or an eGo type device) is going to be higher than a pack of Njoys. The operating costs over the course of a month is almost certainly going to be less though: 15-30 mL of nic juice will last you far longer than a pack of Njoys for similar or lower costs.

Long story short: if you expect to vape for a month or longer I would strongly recommend getting something you can refill with your own juice. It will be more cost effective (and yes, even more convenient) in the long run.

As soon as you reach 5 posts, please turn your attention to the LOOONG Njoy KING thread in the "General E-Smoking Discussion" forum.
In the meantime, I will sum it up for you:
Many of us started vaping by using Njoy Kings, and would continue to use them if they weren't so darn expensive.
Njoy has plans (or so they have told us) to reduce the price when they expand their King line in a few months.
I go through two of them in a day easily, and I never even smoked a whole pack a day, so you can see why that is not cost effective.

What I can tell you is that they are amazingly close in every way to smoking cigarettes. They are great. I say, Buy a low-cost kit for now, like the Volt, and bide your time. It's the only way you can do this and not go broke!

After the initial investment in gear/e-juice, you will find vaping to be very cost-effective. I spend, on average, about $10 a week if even that much. Good luck with making the switch! I think you'll be very glad you did!

Welcome!

Just a quick thought....I too like you wanted something exactly or as close to a cigarette as I could get when I first swtiched to e cigs. I quickly (within a week) realized that there were much cheaper and much better alternatives out there. So I bought an ego battery (starter kit) and I got to tell you I was hooked. It opened up a whole new world. As others have mentioned it is much more economical filling your own cartridges (tanks etc) The other thing I wanted was something that tasted exactly like tobacco, I wanted nothing to do with flavors....or at least I thought. My opinion of this quickly changes as well. I found a vapor shop (hour away) and he told me to try some flavored juices.....I did and wow. Now I am hooked on flavored juices. I still like the good old tobacco flavored but find myself more and more wanting flavors. To top it off I prefer not to use anything that feels like a cigarette anymore. It's kind of an evolution that I think many of us go through. Whichever you decide good luck to you, these forums are awesome!

Getting a volt our some other cigalike with REFILLABLE cartridges is most definitely the way to go. A back of 5 blu cartos in a gas station costs about 13 dollars (i believe). I could refill one of those thirty or forty times with 15 dollars of juice i buy off the internet. Initially, startup cost is going to be higher, but after the first month or so (or longer if you take forever to find your perfect setup like me :p) it's smooth sailing to better health and a much happier bank account. Also, i would agree with taylormade, you'll find fast that you'll most likely not be satisfied with a cigalike after a while. I would also recommend an ego kit. Not the same size as a cigarette, but like most of us here, i think you'll soon find you want nothing to do with any battery that reminds you anything of a cigarette.

I was intimidated with all the variations of e cigs out there when I first started researching and came across a good set of youtube videos from a guy calling himself doctor vapor. I'll link it below. I didn't buy my kit from him or what website he promoted but he gave out excellent advice. I ended up buying the ego twist starter kit from cighub and as you can see I have been 18 days smoke free since. I buy my juice from mount baker vapor.

E-Cig 101 - Class 1 - What Do I Order First? - YouTube

Watch the set of videos from him, he gave me great advice and knowledge.

Thank you so much for what is becoming a large amount of wisdom.

I spoke to my Dr last night and said look I love to smoke and don't want to quit but I'm starting to hate smoking. He endorsed vaping.

So I have some DD to do with all this stuff. I think the most important thing to me at the moment is balancing getting the most bang for the buck vs that good ole cigarette feel plus something I can get at a local store and not rely on the internet.

nep84, welcome to the ECF! Lots of excellent advice here.

Hopefully, you've discovered by now that, for the price of a few NJoys you could get a decent setup that would last you a very long time and be highly cost-efficient.

With regard to the cigarette form-factor of NJoys and similar, bear in mind that they weigh four or five times as much as a cigarette. Thus, you can't dangle one off your lips (unless you have the lips of Al Hirt). And do you really want a device which so closely resembles the demonized tobacco cigarettes? The larger, cigar-sized (or even larger) setups are vastly better, in terms of battery life and functionality. And they don't look like tobacco cigarettes. Light sabers or weapons of mass destruction maybe, but not tobacco cigarettes.

NJoys are not rechargeable. Yes, you can save up eight of the deaders and send them back to NJoy for a single new one, for a few dollars in postage and packaging. Or you can throw them in the trash (thus exciting the folks who feel that lithium-ion batteries don't belong in landfills), or you can take them to a recycling center, again at your cost.

Many of us here, though we initially thought that something "cigarette flavored" would really fill the bill, quickly discovered that cigarette flavored e-liquids don't taste anything like burning cigarettes. This is because nothing burns in a e-cigarette. At best, the tobacco flavors only taste like what a freshly-opened pack smells like. As a for-instance, I detest menthol in cigarettes. But menthol, and various menthol blends with other mint flavors, are my favorite e-liquid flavors now. I also like various citrus flavors (lemon, lime, orange), fruit flavors (cherry, raspberry, apple), and soft-drinks (cola, root beer). Sometimes I'll even vape a "Scotch whisky," which tastes like a cross between Johnny Walker Red and Dewar's.

The range of e-liquid flavors is immense, and this brings up another point. Unlike cigarette smokers, who stick with one brand and configuration, most vapers seem to vape a bunch of different flavors during the course of a day. Can't do that with NJoys, which only offers two different basic flavors.

The expense of disposable cigalikes is downrigh mammoth: nearly that of tobacco cigarettes, and sometimes more. Just for grins, I tried something like NJoys for a day. I went through four of them. (I was a three-pack-per-day tobacco cigarette smoker.) With NJoys, this would pencil out to $252 per week ($27 times four divided by three, then the product multiplied by seven). By contrast, even though I buy the most costly e-liquids (plus moderate the expense a bit by making my own menthol and menthol-mint blends), I spend about $8 per week on vaping disposables (counting both the e-liquids and the wear and tear on disposable parts of the hardware, including a couple of cents per charge on each battery). And the hardware I use over the course of the week cost me about $150 total, with a life expectancy of much more than a year. And I'm using moderately high-end equipment (two Vamos, a couple of 18650 batteries, a TrustFire charger and several Vivi Nova clearomizers).

I keep a pack of NJOY Kings in my pocket as a back-up in case my pv goes south on me. My advice, don't spend a ton of cash searching for the perfect cigalike. You are going to outgrow it quickly. I would also skip the ego batteries and jump right in to a full sized pv, because chances are you are going to wind up with one sooner or later.

Do tell me of this liquid, mostly classics! Sounds intriguing, but I've only found one liquor liquid that tastes like the real thing, and that wasn't whisky...

Liberty Flights has a decent Scotch whisky, which is the one I use. I liked the sampler bottle so much that I bought a 30 ml. bottle of the stuff.

LATER: They now only carry it in 5 ml. sampler bottles. Too bad.
