Been a vaper for 7 months. Easy transition, never wanted a smoke after switching. Realize now I've been rather smug about how easy it was for me.

Until last night. Had a tremendous shock (6 years in this apt., never saw a roach until last night.) Two big ugly MF'ers, and in my bedroom! I hate those bugs!!! The cats alerted on them, I got rid of them, and spent the rest of the night sitting up holding a can of Raid. Normally I handle things like this fairly well, but today I'm increasingly a nervous wreck. Adrenaline overload, nuseated, shakey, can't focus. And I want a cigarette! Lordy how I want a smoke.... Am vaping up a storm, and intellectually I know a smoke isn't going to make me feel better, haven't given in so far, but....

I think a hug would help... ?

A hug will definitely help! So here's one <<< >>> ! Cats are great at getting rid of roaches, or at least mine are. Inside my house is definitely roach-free. The problem is, that here in the Middle East, there are outside roaches about 2 inches long, and my Tabitha likes to bring them in and C R U N C H them...yucky maximus.

But yeah, stress is going to happen 'cause life is like that. Something really rotten happened to me last Friday and my first reaction was "OMG, I need a cigarette!" Then my mind said, "Yeah, and how exactly are 400 kinds of poisons, plus a guilt trip going to help?"

I have only been vaping for 2 weeks, so in retrospect I'm pretty lucky I had my vaper stuff with me. Vaped until a massive dose of nic kicked in.

I definitely hear you, though!

Thank you all! It is helping.

FinallyQuit, can't sleep. Wish I could! Then I think of something crawling on me... Ewwww...

TomCatt, love the sign! Yep, that's what my "guard cats" look like most of the time...

ScottP, yes I know they're just bugs. I've lived in areas where they are a constant problem, and never had this reaction before. (A Dr. Scholl's sandal has always been my weapon of choice, and my aim is true... Unfortunately, I've switched to rubber flipflops, so Raid is second-choice weapon.)

MaggieMW, I hear ya! The last time I saw bugs like this was in Spain. At least 2 inches. They flew!

Thank you all for your hugs!

My cat has an insatiable appetite for insects. He bagged himself a doozy of a roach the other night. After playing around with it for a few minutes, it finally died, at which time he promptly chewed it up and ate it. I was glowing with pride. If only he was as interested in killing ants.

Me and my numbskull killing machine:

I moved to Texas 2 years ago. My apartment complex is surrounded by trees and with the rains it becomes a breeding ground for critters. During certain times of the year, those Texas sized flying cockroaches make their way into the apartment. The first time I saw one, I called the Rental Office and the exterminator came out. I told him I thought they were coming out of the AC vents and asked him to spray them. He did so but told me that the main culprit was the bathtub's drain pipe. He advised me to pour bleach down the drain every once in a while. I also went to the hardware store and bought a strainer to put over the drain itself.

I haven't had as many since then, but the ones who do come through are the huge ones. I figure they're so big they can push the strainer up. Yuck!

Good luck...

BTW, a big hug for you.

Isn't it amazing how cute and cuddly, or sleek and beautiful, cats are, and then how they change when they're in hunting mode?!

These are the first bugs (can't bring myself to say the R word any more...) these cats have seen, so I'm not sure they'd have made a meal of them. They sure did seem to enjoy playing with them, though, in the 30 seconds it took me to get the Raid and take over the hunt! And they were definitely ...... when I took away their new "toys."

SITUATION UPDATE: Exterminator's coming tomorrow. So probably another sleepless night on sentry duty... [sigh]

Tucson, it's a dry heat
Can't help ya with the bugs, but your title had me laughing :)

And FACE MEAT those Terro ant baits you can get at ACE Hardware WORK. You put the little juicey traps where the ants are coming in - they swarm it (scared me at first - I thought it would attract MORE ants) and then they take the bait back to their home and BLAM, they're all dead and gone the next day.

I'm going for the bleach now! Thanks for the tip. And again, ewwww... Don't think I'll ever feel quite the same about taking a shower!

That would bother me too! there are 3 bugs that creep the bejesus out of me earwig, carpenter ants and roaches. I think I would have to call Orkin

Funny, I don't mind dealing with spiders and ants and all the assorted bugs that share our world. Just don't want them sharing my living space! Not sure what earwigs are but pretty sure I wouldn't want to share with them either.

Turns out tomorrow's visit is covered by our building's existing contract with the exterminator (called them 1 minute after they opened this morning, you bet!), so that's one bit of silver lining...

At my previous house we had lots of trees and shrubs that seemed to breed those giant flying Texas wood roaches like crazy. Occasionally one would get in the house. I found that NOTHING smashed these big bugs like a Shoe Fly Swatter.

This gives you the firm squishing power of a flip-flop the extra force from the flexible handle, and the range to do it without getting anything nasty on you.

I have no idea where you can buy these anymore but if you can find a sturdy but slightly flexible handle, I doubt it would be hard to make from any old flip-flop.

Thank goodness my new house has very few trees and in the last 5 years I have not seen any roaches...../knock on wood.

I love me some Orkin Man!!! :D

In all my experience, I live in the south, we have the flying kind as well, I have never ever had one touch me. I usually find them legs up thanks to the Orkin Man, or am able to smash them. This makes me physically ill, by the way, nauseous and even more, but the best bug is a dead bug.

I think you're cleared for a short nap. Or, go spend the night with friends/family!

I live out in the middle of nowhere in Kentucky - my wife and I recently found a pesticide that works amazingly well! It is pet safe (after it dries) and will kill just about any kind of bug. We have a problem with wasps building nests under our patio roof and this stuff keeps them away all summer! I do find a lot of bugs around my home, but they are all dead! It's called Tempo SC and can be found at TEMPO SC, Tempo SC Ultra, Tempo Insecticide - Free Shipping. It's not available for sale in some states but if it's available where you live, I highly recommend it!

Love it! I'm thinking a flipflop, a yardstick, and duct tape might do the trick...
