Yea I always knew of this, but whenever i had the need for some nicotine, a cigar never cut it, even if i smoked it hot for a minute straight.

come to think of it cigarettes dont work that way either, cause last time i was in a place with no circulation, we were doing like 5 cigarettes worth of smoke ring competitions and i was fiending for a cigarette the whole time and it didnt help my crave at all.

I'm sure it can be absorbed through your mouth without inhaling. But it will hit your brain a lot faster going from your lungs. I tried that experiment when I smoked analogs. I used to get a buzz from my first cig in the morning. Held the smoke in my mouth for a while and nothing. As soon as I inhaled it hit me.

The nicotine inhalators that are an 'official uk stop smoking aid' along with patches etc. should not be inhaled and the nicotine is absorbed in the mouth. I suspect that we do not need to inhale with PVs also.

PS Why do they call them inhalators if you are not supposed to inhale?

Nicotine can adsorb through any part of the body, lings, mouth, sinuses, and even the skin. The lungs have around the same surface area as a tennis court, and close to a direct supply to the brain. That's why smoking a substance gets that substance to the brain quickly, like under 2 seconds, AKA a rush.

Apparently there is evidence that vaporized nicotine does NOT really get absorbed by the lungs.
So your friend may be right, but there is no consensus here as far as I know.

having done some testing in the past few days, using both analogs and my ecig. I have tried quadrupling the amount of cigarettes without inhaling, and waiting upwards for 50minutes to see if i get my nicotine hit, and nope. one hit from a regular cigarette gave me what i wanted.

did the same test with ecigs, using 24mg and nothing if i dont inhale.

it was a small sample and it was only me. so who knows.

If vaped nicotene doesn't get to the brain as quickly as an inhaled cig, then why haven't I had any withdrawal problems with the vaping? I tried to quit cigs a half dozen times before, and I always went back to them because of my nicotene addiction, yet this last month has been a breeze for me.

When you experience a 'hit' do your knees sorta wobble and your head spins a bit? I had a girlfriend once that could do the funky chicken on second hand smoke ONLY. Needless to say, I dumped her years ago simply to save her life. The 'hit' you are experiencing with analogs is caused by carbon monoxide in the smoke. You can achieve the same effect by tailpiping a city bus.
