Hi fellow REOnauts. I am relatively new to these parts, but have been bitten hard by the REO bug, 3 Grands, 2 mini 14500's and two recent woodies. For a while I've been using No-Ox-ID for all of my metal to metal contact points in all of my mods. Electrical Contact Lubricant - Conductive Electrical Grease | Sanchem, Inc.
In my REOs mods I've been using it on the firing pins and spring screw attachment points. I have a two ounce tub of this stuff, which is like a lifetime supply. My normal setups are in the 1.2Ω - 1.6Ω single coil range, and I have only noticed very minimal darkening of the firing pin contact point, which cleans off easily with an eraser and isopropyl 99. Is it worth it for me to get the deoxit gold, or should I just keep going with this stuff I have been using?

Hmmm? No-Ox-ID rings a bell. I may have put some on my battery terminals from a small tube (not sure). Would have to look in the tool box.

It looks to better than Noalox. It didn't mention anything about Gold plated items (what Deoxit is specifically for), but does mention it's used on connectors and contact points. If you've used it this long, and haven't had problems. I'm sure it'll be alright to continue using. IF greasy, sticky Noalox works for some people, I'm sure this will work as well.

Here is the Deoxit specs sheet in case you need it.

ENAUD. that is exactly what I have as well. The whole point of using anything on the contact points is to promote a better connection and help prevent oxidation. No-Ox does both of those things. The key is regular maintenance. As long as you do regular maintenance I can see no advantage to spending the additional money on DeOxit Gold at this time.

The only way I personally would switch was if I was getting pitting on my batteries and/or contacts and had a noticeable drop off in performance.

I'm hoping the 'No Ox ID' will stick to the contacts a little longer, since it is a grease rather than a liquid. I've been using DeOxit for a while, but it needs regular re-application with low resistance coils.

I got the NoOx about a week ago from Kidney Puncher, $3 for a little tube.

Thanks for your thoughts guys, I'm going to just keep using what I have. I go through two bottles a day on my Grands, and will clean the contacts about every third day. A little alcohol on a q-tip, followed with an eraser scrub, alcohol, then smear a thin film of the NoOx onto the pin.

I started using it a little over a year ago. I like it. I started using deoxit gold a few months ago to get away from the greasiness of the no-ox-id. I've recently started using the no-ox-id again for certain applications... Under the spring plate of a reo, for instance, is a good place for it. I still use deoxit for the battery and parts that contact the battery.
