when I was young I wanted red hair because my great grandmother had red hair and hers went this GORGEOUS snow white color.

When I was a kid, I hated my red hair - the other kids teased me calling me Woody Woodpecker. It wasn't until my college years that I appreciated my color. Ever since I was about 12, I would get an occasional pure white hair or two. Right now I have a few white hairs at the temples - not gray but pure white and same softness as my hair. I like them - adds character and definition, IMO. Only 2% of the world population is natural redheads.

Red hair is so beautiful! At one time I had reddish highlights put in my hair. I couldn't really go all red because of my coloring---just couldn't pull it off with the skin tone, really dark eyes and black eyebrows!

I haven't had a lot of gray but recently it seems to be coming in faster. *sigh*. However, most all of it is in the crown - none around the hairline. Weird! Thank goodness for hair coloring.

And we are the best 2% !!!!

Well, as a redhead yourself, then you know it sure is a man magnet. That's why I started enjoying it after I reached my college years.

I've been toying with getting some gold highlights weaved in. I've never colored my hair except once in high school when the kids were still calling me carrot-top or Woody Woodpecker. What a mess - I started with a light brown, and I have very thick but fine hair - very porous I guess since it ended up black. It looked nightmarish growing out black with red roots.:(

Since my hair was always jet black I left it alone. But when it started to grey..I was told to go a shade lighter. It came out black. So I decided to go to brown, it came out black.then I decided to go red..it came out Lucy red! I looked like a clown! Not natual at all. It doesn't go with olive skinl. Mike died laughing and started calling me Lucy, so through the tears I dyed it back to black..loved the red highlights that came through! I have never been able to get it like that again.
My friend who is a dirty blond likes highlights in her hair..so I did them for her. It overdid it! She all but glowed in the dark...lol Come to think on it she has never asked me to do it again.

constant state of confusion
Wow there are a lot of redheads in here. Mine is an auburn red and as I child I also hated it. It came from my grandfather, but everyone else in my family has light brown hair and blue eyes and I had red and hazel. As I child, I would ask my mom why and she would joke (didn't know it was a joke then) that I belonged to the milkman. Problem was we lived in England at the time and we HAD a milkman. I can remember waking up before dawn to watch for that milkman to see what my father looked like
As an adult, I embrace my red. I have learned that there is so much more to being a redhead than the color of one's hair. And when the grey creeps in, I put the red back. All four of my kids and all 7 of my grandkids, have dark brown hair but in the sun, you can see the red. I just hope that someday they embrace it too.

When I first noticed gray I did my own color - just for a little bit. I happened to change brands once, and the outgrowth part had a magenta cast that was pretty bright, while the rest was dull and almost black. I looked like one of these "goth" kids that do it on purpose. I had to go around like that for a couple of days. Thanks goodness it was semi-permanent and I had it corrected. From then on, I've left it to a professional!
