Ok, here goes'
Why do cats rub up against you? It's not just when they are hungry!there are scent glands deposited around a cats body(paw pads, cheeks head and rump primarily), they are marking you as being their property.

Why do people get overcome with the sleepies after eating (and not at thanksgiving!) Being full has a soporific effect regardless of what you eat

When do teens brains fully form? Or in the case of male childen...ever form. They say it's not fully developed till somewhere in the mid-20's...that so explains my early 20's:p

When did it become custom for women to wear makeup but not for men? probably when men realized it makes them look like gay little pansies...

What is a maid of honor? That would be the woman that used to be responsible for the bride not getting laid pre-wedding

Why is it flower girl and Boys for ring bearer..why not the other way round?hmm a boy scattering petals down the isle? Something wrong with that image. Ring bearer is not even a common inclusion, but I've seen it be girls and even dogs...usually it's carried by the best man though.

If a bride has to wear white by custom, how come her groom doesn't! Customs vary and change, wearing white is a young traditions as they go, it only came into fashion in the late 15th century.Truly wedding customs are a strange thing, and intresting as well.

Why is blue not a natural food color? I am not sure but I think Blueberries are really purple.Yes blueberries are really a deep dark purple, blue roses are lavender also. The natural blue food dye is indigo, it is licensed for use as a food dye in the US, but it is cheaper to produce it artificially.

After asking that..why is blue considered a bad choice for plate color? I wasn't aware it was, interesting will look it up...Ok, supposedly the color is an appetite suppressant because true blue foods are rare.

Can Big cats mate each other..lion, tigers, lepards ect? Yes they can with varying longterm results, some (small wildcats) can even procreate with domestic cats, even producing fertile offspring.

Did Chihuahua's decend from dogs or foxes? There are many theories of the Chi's origins all but one which state it descended from one dog or another, only one (not very popular) theory states it may have descended from a fennec fox. Truthfully though nobody knows the Chi's true origins.

Switching topic groups..the clerk is coming...

Why would math be a universal language if meeting Aliens (from outer space) Why wouldn't art or muisic? I can't do math well..does that mean I can't make myself understood..even if I do the Vulcan hand sign?I don't understand that either, I'd sure hate to try to use it to explain something non-logical like emotions though, I don't think it's possible.

I read a book many moons ago about a man who worked in space, because on Earth he couldn't walk..In space he could. Is that true? Or rather would it be true?Funny lol...It depends on why he couldn't walk, is it was a weight bearing issue then yeah possibly, but it's a very gross exaggeration.

In another book people grew giant food because of the low gravity..would that work? Theoretically low gravity and temperatures encourage gigantism.

When we are small, we grow up liking the foods we were given, If we move to another country we have a hard time getting used to the new foods. Are we hardwired for taste? No we are not, it's a nurture issue, we can over time adapt to enjoy foreign cuisine as much or more than the one we were raised on.

Why can't you move your toes independantly as you can your fingers? Ring fingers are hard..but it can be done.Well the bones aren't laid out the same way, but some people have more mobility in their toes than others, I can flex all my toes independantly, fingers too, though I can't bend all my toes but one (except my big toe), the tight connecting skin pulls the others down with it. Quite simple they are built for a different purpose.

Why do toe nails grow so slow compared to finger nails?Fingernails grow faster than toenails, male nails grow faster than female nails, and all nails grow faster in the summer than in the winter. The nails on your dominant hand--the one you write with--grow faster than those on the other hand. But as for why fingernails grow faster, dunno some places said it has something to do with blood flow but no clear cut answers were found./COLOR]

How can you tell when a baby has bow legs..they all look like that!Pretty much all babies are either bowlegged or pigeon toed, most doctors now wait till they are school age before making any diagnoses of one of those problems.

We all think dogs dream because they run and a bark in their sleep, but is it dreaming or just movement like babies do?..(they are exercising musles) Yes they dream, and so do babies.

If dogs see in black and white, why do some dogs hate uniforms and how can they tell!Dogs do not see in just black and white, however their sense of color is less distinct and more muted than ours.

Why do some people remember the written word..like a book or this board (me) but not remember the spoken word as well (like a tape or a song)?I have trouble remembering things that are just written down for me but I can remember things I am told to write down a little better (I really require both). However I remember the words to pretty much every song I hear after just one or two listen (straight down to the rhythm beat tone pitch, everything), and only need to hear the music to recall them, and be able to repeat them. The reason for the difference is simply that the mind is a very complex thing and there are so many possible variations of things that cause us to learn in different ways that there is no hard and fast answer to that question.

Ok..here she comes and she is steamed..time to make like a cracker and cheeze it.....

Well, if I ever get a boyfriend, I'm sending him into space!

If they can send a man to the moon, why can't they send them all there?

OMG. This thread is a hoot. I can't believe I didn't find it before now. I can completely understand the mind going 100 mph as mine never stops, although it does get a little lethargic now and then from age and meds. I believe that I was hyperactive as a child but they didn't recognize it as such way back then. The nuns just tried to beat it out of me-literally. (As often as I got rapped across the knuckles, it's amazing that I don't have arthritic hands.) LOL

Speaking of nuns :nun:, I also believe they changed me from a lefty to right-handed. There are some tasks that I can not do right handed (deal cards, count money, etc.). I'm also ambidextrous which also leads me to this belief. Five years later when my sister went to school they allowed her to remain a lefty. Unfortunately, my parents died young before I came to this realization so I can't ask them. Anyone else of a "certain age" think they were switched? Inquiring minds want to know.

I have always been a righty, but my daugher is a lefty. I learned to crochet what was for me, backwards, so I could teach her. I also had to learn to write left handed to help her learn. I bat lefty or righty because I can't tell left from right! It makes driving a fun experiance..my grands have learned to tell me..turn my way Grandma..or your way. Otherwise we end up going around the block a lot!
Our nuns didn't care which way you wrote as long as it was with a fountain pen (what a mess) and did it neatly! Ball points were for those uneducated people who couldn't spell or make a well rounded letter! In other words..me!

I'm a natural left-dominant, but I do most things including writing right handed, there are some things I use my left for though (shooting a bow, gun ect.), and many things I do abidexterously. Habit has caused me to be much more coordinated with my right though. I know that by the time I was 6 I exclusively used my right as if it were dominant, but that may be because my birth dad is a reluctant lefty so using my left as dominant was not encouraged. The kindergarten I went to did not encourage left handedness (my mom and sisters are right dominant so once dad was out of the picture there was unintentional right dominant re-enforcement).

It has come in handy in some ways though, for years I worked as a barista so between the ambidexterity and ADHD I could work the machine very fast because I could use both hands as dominant simultaneously, made a dang good coffee too.

What color is Black? White?

What are butterflies in the stomach?

What makes a handsome man..is it in your eye or brain?

Why are some colors associated with emotion?
Green with envy, seeing red, purple in the face, white with fear ect.

Why do we repeat old wive's tales..like don't go out with wet hair, you'll catch a cold. We know they aren't true..so why say them anymore? Chis Columbus's mom must have filled his head with be careful, you'll fall off the earth!

Do Astronauts get younger when the pass the datelines of earth..backwards? If so..I am on the next shuttle bus up!

Why can buzzards eat things dogs would get sick eating, but dogs eat stuff without getting sick that would kill us? (little boys will eat things that would kill a buzzard)

At what age can you quit saying Ma'am or Sir to people younger then you? Is that why old guys call everyone Sonny or dear?

Each group has their own "short hand" or "lexicon", Like the military talks about T.D.Y.'s or Klicks. , L.D.S. (Mormons) Talk about B.O.M., Dr.s say Stat, and Ringers. Why is that? ...wait..Vaper, batts and Atty's!

Why is it that actors and sports people get paid a ridiculous amount of money to play. But Nurses, Police, firefighters and teachers don't?

Why do movie always make huge explotions in space complete with fire and sound..there is no oxygen to sustain a fire or atmosphere to carry sound..am I right?

I heard there was a vitamin..one of the "B's" I think that can stop or ...... the loss of pigment in hair. Is that why some people retain color into old age? Something they get in the diet? Please let it not be squash!

Why do kittens take so long for their eyes to open, but dogs and birds and babies don't.

How long does it take for useless things like little fingers and appendix's to go away?

Was or is the appendix ever useful..for what?

How long does a word have to be in general usage before it gets put in the dictionary? LOL.LOL.LOL LOL...is it in yet?

Do words ever come out of the dictionary?

If a picture is worth a thousand words, why are we still talking about the Mona Lisa....just kidding!

Does the Mona Lisa's name mean anything? I can't imagine an Itailan lady being called Mona. Hey Mona..wanna go for Pizza at the Pisa? No, thanks Sergio, gotta wash my hair..that old guy wants to paint again today..Mama mia..what a pain!

While we are still in Italy, What were the Swiss thinking with the getup they have the Swiss Guard wearing! The Pope must go blind whenever they escort him!

On to China, Spaghetti? Why? Why did they make them long like that?

Speaking of food..When did food go from being anything will do nourisment to cusine? I mean at what point in history.

When Books were first made, why did they decide to go from front to back..left to right instead of the other way round? (I would still read the ending first!)

Got to go..she just yawned!... See you next time!:p

What color is Black? White? Black is the visual expression for the lack of reflected visible light. White is the visual expression for the equal reflection of all visible light.

What are butterflies in the stomach? It is believed that this sensation is caused by the muscles reaction to the release of large quantities of epinephrine, as well as endorphins.

What makes a handsome man..is it in your eye or brain? (That is a long, involved, and incredibly complex answer that I will not even attempt to answer seriously.) What makes a man handsome is not knowing how incredibly irritating you will find them.

Why are some colors associated with emotion?
Green with envy, seeing red, purple in the face, white with fear ect. It is a culturally variable thing, I don't know why though. Except the seeing red one cause some white peoples faces get literally flushed red when angry...like the Irish lol, and the fear one is similarly that the face loses color when afraid.(granted both are the result of blood flow, an increase when angry, and a decrease when scared)

Why do we repeat old wive's tales..like don't go out with wet hair, you'll catch a cold. We know they aren't true..so why say them anymore? Chis Columbus's mom must have filled his head with be careful, you'll fall off the earth! I dunno why some people still do, I don't, I'm even annoying and correct others who actually say them cause they believe them.

Do Astronauts get younger when the pass the datelines of earth..backwards? If so..I am on the next shuttle bus up! LMAO that's just funny lol, no, sorry MK if they did people would study harder and be clamoring to get into the space program.

Why can buzzards eat things dogs would get sick eating, but dogs eat stuff without getting sick that would kill us? (little boys will eat things that would kill a buzzard). Differences in gut bacteria, and little boys are just weired.

At what age can you quit saying Ma'am or Sir to people younger then you? Is that why old guys call everyone Sonny or dear? Who says ma'am or sir to younger people lol? I try to avoid it with anyone younger than me, it's just weired.

LOL, just makes things faster, hell if the military didn't they'd never finish a conversation lol. (It's annoying in the 10+ yrs my dh has been in the military they've changed the name for their physical fitness exam 3-4 times. I think it's called PRT now Physical Readiness Training, as if that ain't the stupidest @$$ idea of a name anyone ever came up with.)

Why is it that actors and sports people get paid a ridiculous amount of money to play. But Nurses, Police, firefighters and teachers don't? I have been asking myself that for over a decade now, I have yet to come to a satisfying conclusion.

Why do movie always make huge explotions in space complete with fire and sound..there is no oxygen to sustain a fire or atmosphere to carry sound..am I right?Yes your right and they do it because battle scenes would be ridiculously boring, and weired due to our atmospheric sensibilities, if they didn't.

I heard there was a vitamin..one of the "B's" I think that can stop or ...... the loss of pigment in hair. Is that why some people retain color into old age? Something they get in the diet? Please let it not be squash! There is nothing that can stop the loss of hair pigment, sorry it's genetic and has to due with the aging of the follicle and it's ability to produce pigment. When you 'go grey', as well as the color and the texture of those hairs is genetically predetermined. Believe me if there were a way to stop hair changing color I'd tell my dh, he's going white. BTW docs say it cannot be caused by stress.

Why do kittens take so long for their eyes to open, but dogs and birds and babies don't.It as to do with how quickly they need to be independent. Birds can't really be cross compared here, they're in a different Class of animals, Aves not Mammalia.

How long does it take for useless things like little fingers and appendix's to go away? LMAO do you mean evolutionarily speaking??

Was or is the appendix ever useful..for what?It is believed that the appendix is a repository for good bacteria, allowing them to repopulate the gut after a bout of ......... It is also believed that because of better hygiene practice fewer of these good bacteria are needed leading to the assumption that the appendix is useless; also that it is over active immune systems that attack the good bacteria in the appendix erroneously and cause appendicitis.

How long does a word have to be in general usage before it gets put in the dictionary? LOL.LOL.LOL LOL...is it in yet? that's a long answer so I'll let Merriam-Webster answer it.

Do words ever come out of the dictionary? Yes, words that have fallen out of usage are removed. Apparently the words in dictionaries are scrupulously reviewed on a regular basis.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, why are we still talking about the Mona Lisa....just kidding!Because it is a truly beautiful work of art. Cool new discoveries, including that she had eyebrows and a smile when Di Vinci painted her.

Does the Mona Lisa's name mean anything? I can't imagine an Itailan lady being called Mona. Hey Mona..wanna go for Pizza at the Pisa? No, thanks Sergio, gotta wash my hair..that old guy wants to paint again today..Mama mia..what a pain!In Italian Mona is short for Madonna, in this connection meaning Mrs. Lisa is short for Elisabetta. Mona Lisa = Mrs Elisabetta.

While we are still in Italy, What were the Swiss thinking with the getup they have the Swiss Guard wearing! The Pope must go blind whenever they escort him! They were a common style in the Renaissance era in which they had their beginnings. However their regular duty uniforms are a simple solid blue.

On to China, Spaghetti? Why? Why did they make them long like that?To symbolize long life, and they are rice noodles, not spaghetti if they are Chinese(the Italian's pasta did not originate in China). In an aside I found this cool unrelated historical tidbit while searching

Yankee Doodle -macaroni and American history

Could you be a macaroni? Have you traveled -as young Englishmen did before the revolutionary war- to Europe? Have you fallen in love with the fashions, manners and tastes of the Europeans? Have you brought them home with you to the shock of the more stolid tastes of those at home? If you can answer yes, then you are a macaroni. Considering themselves quite elegant, these snobbish young travelers wore the term 'macaroni' with pride.

"Yankee" was a mispronunciation of the word "English" in the Dutch language, and "doodle" came from a German word meaning 'simpleton.' In the pre-Revolutionary era, the dandified British macaronis scoffed at the colonialists, and called them Yankee Doodles. In derision, they laughed at the unfashionable colonialists who might stick a feather in their hat and consider themselves in style. Not to be scoffed at, the colonialists picked up the song as a rallying cry for independence, and Yankee Doodle entered the history of the United States. After the success of the Battle of Bunker Hill, verses were added lauding George Washington and his valiant fighting men. The song became part of the the quest for freedom with choruses that changed as the war for independence went on.

Speaking of food..When did food go from being anything will do nourisment to cusine? I mean at what point in history. A very very long time ago, I have no idea how far back, but consider the early Greeks and Romans love of good food.

When Books were first made, why did they decide to go from front to back..left to right instead of the other way round? (I would still read the ending first!). Complex answer sorry, not going there, need to go LOLZ before bed.

If seedless grapes are really seedless how do they grow more seedless grapes? (I know the answer because I asked my teacher in high school and he made me look it up)

If you are traveling in a car at the speed of light and you turn your headlights on would you be able to see them? (Steve Wright lol)

We missed this question! It's from Medic23

If seedless grapes are really seedless how do they grow more seedless grapes?
Most grapevines these days are grown from cuttings, as most grapes are genetically altered to not form the hard outer seed shell.

If you are traveling in a car at the speed of light and you turn your headlights on would you be able to see them? Avoiding the long drawn out scientific explanation and Einsteinian history behind it, yes.

Another one missed! We need answers!

why when i have a dream i have backround music then can't get it out of my head till i listen to somethign else...
One theory is it's a cognitive itch. "Researchers at Dartmouth University found that when they played part of a familiar song to research subjects, the participants' auditory cortex automatically filled in the rest -- in other words, their brains kept "singing" long after the song had ended. The only way to "scratch" brain itch is to repeat the song over and over in your mind. Unfortunately, like with mosquito bites, the more you scratch the more you itch, and so on until you're stuck in an unending song cycle."
Some researchers say stuck songs are like thoughts we're trying to suppress. The harder we try not to think about them, the more we can't help it. Other experts claim that they are simply a way to keep the brain busy when it's idling

why do companies make new products but pull the old ones? i mean seriously google crystal pepsi sooo many peopel loved that and they pulled it but then they made pepsi throwback...sameish concept but one was clear....Same reason tv stations stop good shows while making new ones, sales. If the sales figures on a product aren't up to snuff it is pulled and they try something else.

why do they make hair color touch up kits that cost more than the color did normally? ill just buy the whole color and do it myself...lol because some people color their hair so much that they have to be careful not to fry the already colored portion, and so will pay the higher price for touch-up kits.

really...umm fake toenails..now thats a bit much right?very much so.

why does my dog forget shes eating dinner until we tell her to go eat (in the middle of her eating we have to do this a few times to get her to finish..lol)I don't know, I'd talk to a vet about this, it's def not normal.
