I use a conductive grease that ham radio operators use on their antennae ... it's called NO-OX-ID, and it's made by Sanchem Inc. in Chicago, Illinois. If you have an electronic shop nearby, especially one that caters to the amateur radio trade, you may be able to find this, or something similar.

Ox-Guard, Noalox or any dielectric grease or aluminum anti-oxidant compound from a hardware store or auto parts store should work fine. Might be able to find something at an electronics parts and pieces type place (radioshack). Vaseline would even work in a pinch.

Noalox (and others) are available on ebay, perhaps you could find a seller willing to ship to south Africa?
