I made the switch to nickel and Im very happy I did. Its much more resilient than silver and I can get much tighter wraps as I dont have to worry about it breaking as easy. It seems my coils are much more stable because of it. I didn't notice any difference in performance. Im glad It worked out as I hated to throw away sterling silver after use.

Where do you get the non-resistance nickel wire? I am rebuilding a Term-C and a Choddy with silver NR wire, and because I use cotton wicks, I need to rebuild every few days. I can sometimes reuse one of the legs I've wrapped around the center post, but throwing away any silver just doesn't seem right.

I got 100' for $3.85 on ebay. That's why i was asking about going away from silver. Now that i know it will work just as good,i won't have to worry about throwing away all that .999 silver either.

Thanks, yea i hated throwing away all that unused silver too, especially rebuilding for my Terminator-C,i use a DC with it and have to cut two 2"-3" pieces of silver for it and half gets thrown away after you cut the extra from the coil.

Thanks for the tip on the nickel wire. I just picked up a Terminator-C from Stormy's (still in transit) and was wondering about an alternative to the pricey silver NR wire. Just got a 50ft spool of 30 gauge off eBay from Temco for $6.20 shipped.

In case anyone was wondering where to get resistance wire as well, definitely give Temco a shot. I've used them for almost all of my resistance wire (they were out of stock on a couple sizes and found alltronics on eBay as well, though it was still Temco brand wire), and their prices are cheap, wire is good quality, and shipping is fast!

3.85? wow thats a great deal, I get the Temco(7.95?) one and sometimes its not always available. I will have to check it out, though I do have 100 ft 32 gauge and 100 ft of the 36 gauge.

You might want to try this with your Treminator-C McMaster-Carr .I have been using this ceramic rope with mine with a DC wrap and it is amazing.Five foot of the rope will last you for a long while.

Thanks for the link! Two feet came with the kit and bought another two feet additional from Stormy, but this will come in handy when the time comes to get some more. I'm assuming you use the 3/8" loosely twisted type and then unwrap it?

Yep :toast:EDIT: And you only need to cut about 3/4 -1" off to use as your wick at a time per rebuild.
