Non-Smoker 2yrs Still misses the 'act' of 'smoking'

Hello,

I'm very new to the forums and new to the vaping scene in general. I quit smoking two years ago by personal choice and actually had very little trouble quitting. None of the people on my father's side of the family seem to have either (3 family members quit), my father included.

Now, this may sound odd, maybe it won't, but I actually still miss the 'act' of smoking. I have since the day I quit. I miss the socialization with other smokers and the throat hit. (weird, I know, right?) I don't miss anything else except those, really. I've been considering vaping as a recreational activity and also as encouragement and as a support partner to help a buddy get off of analogs. What do you guys think? I thought I might try some 0mg carts. The doublers over at TastyVapor look especially pleasing. Thoughts? Thanks. :)

Welcome firetruck,

I don't think it would hurt for you to vape if you're trying to help a friend quit or for social reasons. Many people have problems in the beginning because of equipment choices and the general learning curve. You can get a lot of great advice here to help you get started. What type of equipment were you thinking of getting?

As far as I know, doublers are unflavored; you might want to check on that before you buy it. Your friend the smoker may be better off with some nicotine in his juice to start with, then he can taper off with time. I was a 2 ppd smoker, and 24 mg nic has helped me cut way back.

i myself quit smoking rather easily, but i still really miss it, to the point where i find it difficult to be around smokers out of jealousy more or less, the fact that 90% of my friends smoke makes it hard, even seeing people smoke in movies makes me want a cigarette, but apart from that i don't crave.
i have just started vaping, i haven't really even broken in my E-cig yet, but it's already good to be puffing on something again, even if it is 0nic.

Welcome,

I'd tell you to stay away, as you might develop a habit you regret, but I understand I think. My mom has quit for 30 years and says she STILL misses them! So I think as long as you stay away from the nic it's probably not a bad idea. I just have a hard time advising someone to do something that may be habit forming, and we don`t quite know of the risks, if any, involved yet. But you're an adult so whatever your decision is I'll be more than happy to help. Welcome to the ECF community :toast:

Hi Audio,

Thanks for the welcome and the input. As far as equipment, I actually already have something on the way. I bought it after doing about two days worth of research and watching video reviews. I know plenty of videos out there are biased because the e-cig companies send them free stuff to say a product is good. Anyway, what I got is a Prosmoke kit with 0mg Menthol carts and 0mg Vanilla. Both are VG, not PG.

I've heard mixed reviews for this unit, but they have a warranty after all and I don't mind having to ship it back if it doesn't work for me. I planned on getting my buddy a personal vaporizer for a gift and to get him on the road to quitting as well after he tried mine, with a clean cart in it of course. He really doesn't want to quit completely either, just is tired of his mouth tasting like an ash tray and the horrid smell. (That and I kick his ... outside when he comes over and wants to smoke. )

As for the doublers. They have many flavors over at TastyVapors.us apparently. I've chatted with the owners and they indeed are flavored. I honestly wouldn't even care if I had a low dose nic cart or not, and being on nicotine never bothered me in the least. It was the nasty taste and smell that made me put them down. Oh, and the ashes everywhere, good god, the ashes! (yuck.)

The KR808 and the 510 seemed to be the most popular units, based on what I've seen and read. The only reason I really went with the prosmoke is because they had pre-filled 0mg carts and I hadn't found any other site that sold 0mg carts with a kit.

I thank you also, zbasspro for your concerns and your input. I mostly miss the smoking culture and really would have continued to smoke had I known about these personal vaporizers when I quit two years ago. Like I said in a previous post, I quit because of the smell and just the general nastiness that comes with smoking analogs. I'll also be the first to admit that being free from smokes IS an awesome thing, especially when you quit cold turkey. I smoked for 11 years.

My mother still smokes and I've also been trying to get her off of the analogs and onto a PV ever since I found them. She's been smoking since she was 19 and is now nearing her 70's. She's not the friend I mentioned I was trying to help, but she is yet another one I would love to see 'stop' smoking, even if she doesn't quit the nic and just moves to an e-cig.
