I'm probably not your typical member so I thought I would say hi and explain why I joined this forum.
I've never been a smoker and really knew nothing about e-cigs (bad name by the way), personal vaporizers, mods, e-liquid, etc., except I had seen a Blu commercial on TV. My general perception of the products was bad as I am very health oriented including having ran numerous marathons and completing two Ironmans. Mom and Dad were smokers, as were many folks back in 60s and early 70's, but both quit in the late 70's. Unfortunately it was too late for my Mom and she died from colon cancer likely related to smoking in 1981. My oldest sister was also a closet smoker having starting when she was probably 15 and she passed away last year from pancreatic cancer, also likely related to her smoking. Therefore, it is probably an understatement to say that I really don't like cigarettes.
At the same time, I am definitely Libertarian in most of my political beliefs and don't believe the government should restrict what an individual wants to ingest or inhale as long as it directly does not effect me. Therefore, I don't have a problem with people smoking as long as it is not done in an enclosed public space that I frequent.
About a month ago a friend asked that I help look in to an e-juice business he was thinking of acquiring. I said "what the heck is that?" and starting researching as I have a background in corporate acquisitions and am currently run an e-commerce business for healthy foods. I found this forum, joined CASAA and really started learning about the products, the FDA deeming regulations and political situations around these products. I found the lack of science and scaremongering being using to enact legislation, especially in my home city of San Francisco, quite appalling.
Suffice it to say I have made a complete 180 degree turn around and wish these products were around to help get my Mom and Sis off cancer sticks. I also now believe that these products might become the biggest boon to public health since the discovery of penicillin and the creation of the polio vaccine. I'm against most regulation at this time except sales to minors and packaging and labeling standards. Being a software engineer by background that started working in Silicon Valley in 1989 I've seen politicos attempt to curtail markets in the past. This market is moving fast and I think it is ripe for more technology innovation so I'm now exploring some areas of interest to me.
In the meantime, I will continue to support the use of these products to help smokers quit and voice my feelings to our elected officials. As you all say "vape on"!
Cheers,
Jim
