Some people prefer one or the other, sometimes both. As far as shortening the life of your atomizer, I don't know. But, just like Houdini stated, I'd worry more about your battery if you're using an automatic (but if you have a manual, ignore this). I actually gummed up one of my auto-batts on my M401 on accident due to juice leaking into the battery sensory hole. It charges like normal, just doesn't work :[

Personally, I like using a cart when I'm driving or out with friends, since carrying around all my equipment is a bit tedious. But, at home, dripping provides a better taste and massive amounts of vaper for my 510.

Also, depending on your model, if you have an exposed atomizer (like the M4 series), dripping is viable, but alot of people are raving about dipping rather. You can find various threads for these methods.

Hope this helps!

I tried dripping last night and I find that it's so much better that carts, but not so convienient when you need to go somewhere or have to drive. I find that with my Npro, 1 drop does the trick for about 7-10 good puffs.

As for using the carts, I bought some of those lipton pyramid teabags and made filler out of them. Not as good as dripping, but so much better than the standard filler... The taste is cleaner and the fill doesn't bogart the fluid like the poly filler.

Some people might say that dripping shortens the life of an atomizer, but I don't believe it.
It doesn't make any sense that it would from any logical standpoint I can think of.

I heard that from people too and that's why I had to ask...it didn't make any sense to me either. Right now I use a Npro and it only takes one drop to get an analog equvilent, so really no danger of overfilling and it leaking into my batt. When my Sidesho arrives, I'll start dipping instead.

I started on an NPro and though I don't use it anymore, I think it is a very good model for dripping.
It has a nice wide atomizer bridge and it can take three drops without issue.

The only drawback is that it has an automatic battery, so you do have to be careful.
But I never had any problems at all.
