I believe that many people think they want a device that looks like a cigarette until they use it. If I had it to do over again, I would have went straight to a mod. However the riva/ego was not out then so I can't say if I would have bought one or not. This I can tell you, I've been running the same mod with only having bought one extra set of batteries in that time and the two batteries were still less than an ego battery. Ever since I bought my first kit, I have not been a fan of proprietary batteries. This is just my opinion so you can take it or leave it.

I agree, especially about the proprietary batteries. Why pay $20 for a battery that can be recharged only 200 times when you can pay $3.50 for a battery that can be recharged 2000 times.

I don't think people care necessarily if it looks like a cigarette. They want something that's going to deliver what a cigarette does. They want a device that will help them stop smoking analogs in a not overly complicated way.

For 30 bucks an ego is a simple and easy way to do that. If you hate it, you're not out a lot. A carton of cigarettes cost $70 here in NJ. If you move on in a few months, what's the big deal?

Some people like tinkering and reading about amps and volts and things like that. My brain just shuts down, especially when I was new and never even tried one. Just reading the beginners guide (all 6 parts of it) was information overload and gave me a migrane. Not that it wasn't appreciated or well done, but it's a lot of information. Add mods to the mix before you even start is a little much for some people- not all. But it definitely wouldn't be anything I would have considered when I first started.

    Somewhere between here and there
There are simple mechanical mods out there that don't require any extra knowleadge except how to unscrew them and put a battery in and they aren't much more than an ego. I got a Screwdriver from trog for not alot more than an ego and it has always worked as long as I have a good battery in it. Which by the way is about $3 for a trustfire or $6 for an AW imr battery. I do agree that there is alot of information out there since there are alot more options available now compared to when I started out. However, if someone was lucky enough to find this forum before making their first purchase then I believe it is worth doing some research in order to make an educated decision on their first purchase. One last thing, I was wondering if you could tell me where they are selling ego kits for $30. You should post that in the deals and steals thread in the PIF section.

hittman, Its the Riva 510 which is very similar (Afaik) to the Ego, they are $30.00 from liberty-flights.com(or co.uk)
I will definitely have to look into a mod for my next one since the battery prices sound very manageable to me, but yes it was all VERY overwhelming at first. Everything I found when searching contradicted everything else, and while the newbie videos were helpful (especially the vaping for broke people ones haha) I still felt very undecided so I'm glad to have found the help I did! Thanks again!

Liberty Flights has a Riva ego for $30.00

Let me ask you this, was your first pv a mod?

I heard about pvs but never entertained the idea of using one. The whole idea sounded stupid to me.

I saw that actreess on TV, forget her name vaping on David Letterman and a lightbulb went off. My moms health has been in a decline, she has COPD and I thought I'd look into it for her. Plus even rolling cigs was too much trouble and work for me- hated it.

Wandered into this place. Tons and tons of information. In fact I read here for months. I'd smoke my brains out reading this board it frustrated me so much. Once I started seeing the numbers - 510, 901, etc. etc. my brain shut off and I x'd out of the forum. And I'm by no means a stupid person. It just seemed overly complicated for something that I may not even like.

I wanted someone to cut to the chase. Where can I pick up on of these things to try that isn't expensive and I won't get ripped off. We're not talking about buying a car, we're talking about something that's the price of a carton of cigarettes.

If someone would have gone on about variable volts and 3.7 vs 5 and juice boxes and bottom feeders, I'd still be smoking Newports.

    But that's me.

I can understand that point of view swedish and am not really trying to make this into something more important than it is. My first pv was not a mod. I thought that I had said that already in my post on the last page. Back then the 510 was the hot item and everyone I asked said buy a 510 kit. A week or two after receiving my first kit and realizing how short the battery life was, I built my first nicostick/box mod. I was in heaven or so I thought anyway. In my case, I wish I had gone straight to a high voltage unit which is what I use on a daily basis. Had I started where I am then I could have saved alot of time and trouble. I'm not trying to say that I'm right but simply trying to share my experience.
