I could have asked this in the new members section, but I just feel more comfortable here in the Canada forum. Anyways, I'm currently about to buy my first ecig and I'm feeling a little daunted by all the choices out there, I figure the best way to find out what I should be looking at is to figure out my needs. Like most smokers, I'm pretty habitual. I work in an industrial area across town, not many stores around, once I leave the house in the morning, I'm gone all day, so I always make sure I have enough smokes to cover me. As far as hardware goes, I was interested in the custom 510 manual from electro vapors here . I like the look, but I don think the battery will cover me for all day vaping. I'm also torn, I like the idea of dripping, but that,s probably something best left for nights when I'm home, I think I'll probably get the best use out of cartomizers.

As far as juice goes, I guess I'm a full flavor smoker ( number seven reds) so I'm probably going to start with a tobacco flavored juice (24mg nicotine) until I've been off analogs for awhile, although I'd like to grab a few smaller bottles of flavored stuff too because that really intrigues me.

S I guess the whole gist of this post is to gather some suggestions from the experts and go from there... Thanks in advance for any help!

This might sound crazy but why not start with a Darwin. It will cost you roughly 300+ to start but if vaping is not for you it can be easily sold for 80-90% of your purchase price. Also with the variable wattage and LCD info of volts, amps, ohms will help you find your sweet spot easily and also provide you with a guided lesson on equipment with the info.

The battery last 1.5-2 days depending on usage and if you do stick with vaping you would probably be ahead cause you already have a killer mod.

If not the Darwin I would suggest a passthrough ego battery

Canadian Electronic Cigarette Happy/Joye eGo-T USB Passthrough Battery

You can vape while you charge and also the 510 connection allows you to use basically anything.

I am going to second the ego. Ego's are super easy to get from any canadian supplier. Parts come quick etc. Plus the batteries are amazing. I've been vaping all day on a 1000mah one. I am out of the house for 12-14 hours a day, I usually don't kill a battery (I carry an extra just in case and havn't had to use it yet.

Im going to kind of second sunchae.
If you tried it and liked it get something that will last.
I wish i would have skipped the kits ive gotten in the beginning and got the SB right away (or any other mod out there)
If you can afford it, get something good, darwin, provari, glv, silver bullet, prodigy, etc. The list is endless and IMHO any of those will be better in the long run than a standard e-sig.

Come up with your price range and see whats the best thing you can afford, get it, use it and in the end if you dont like it sell it. as sunchae said, mods keep their value quite well.

btw madvapes has a roughstack kit on sale. for $10 (roughly) more you get a mod, batteries, charger, 2 atties and juice (although you might want to ask for no juice as it seems CBSA has a hardon for madvapes). id say get that instead of that cigarette look-alike

Having been smoked free for 21 months, I have been using the eGo daily ever since it came out 20 months ago. I have vaped the gamut of devices out there with the exception of the Darwin and Provari.

The eGo by JoyE is a nice entry level device that will meet all your vaping needs (1000 mAh) and will last you the day. Marlboro is a good tobacco liquid to start off at, it is what is sent in most kits.

Why the eGo? It is a classy PV that can be vaped anywhere with confidence and stealth when required.

Here are my two favorites:

For under 50 bucks...the Boge Revolution V2.1 (with 1400mah batteries).
It has a bottom feeding bottle. It's designed to work with Boge 510 vertical coil cartomizers and comes with 5 of them at standard resistance. Also included is a wall based charger. To me, the LR Boge Cartos do work a little better with it than the included standard resistance ones. I have screwed on a 2 Ohm dual coil carto, and it fires up fine, but not quite hot enough for me. I've not yet tried a 1.5 Ohm dualie on it yet, but folks on YouTube say it works just fine and would definitely vape a bit warmer than the 2 Ohm one I tried.

Here lately, I add a tube from an old windex bottle to the bottle and use regular atomizers (either a 2 Ohm Ikenvape Cannon, or a typical LR 801 atty with an adapter) instead of the cartos, but that's just me. I've also used the cisco 1.7 Ohm LR atties and they do nicely too. The main reason I prefer the 801 with an adapter is because it lightens up the draw considerably, and still feeds quite well. Every few hits, I give the bottle a few squeezes with my thumb and cold-draw to pull liquid into the atty...then I'm good to go for 8 to 12 hits or more. Sometimes it even auto feeds for me once I get it primed and going.

When I want to vape a different flavor that isn't loaded in the bottle, I just screw on my favorite loaded cartomizer, or drip into the atty.

These things are very light and fit the hand and pocket well. They have two long lasting li-poly batteries in them that easily go all day. No extra charger is needed, just plug the thing into the included charger, or use a mini USB cord to charge it on a computer. It can be vaped while it charges.

Even if I never used the bottom feeder, I'd find the little V2 worth the $50 I paid for it. It's not the best bottom feeder out there, but it is one of the least expensive for something that comes loaded with great batteries, a charger, and can be vaped all day. If you buy any other box mod that bottom feeds, you'll get close to this price and still not have batteries and a charger to go in them!

Here's a V2 Review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b81qEbS5nsY
Note: The V2.1 still has the alien lights on top, but no anion thing in the unit, instead it has an extra battery bringing it up to 1400mah.

Of course I love my Darwin. All the other stuff...Boge V2, eGo, etc...now sits on the 'back up shelf'. Or I occasionally pull the other stuff out for parties or travel where I fear the Darwin might get lost or stolen. The Darwin is awesome, can run pretty much any carto or atty on the market at very high performance levels, is built like a tank, and is very easy to use. Like the Boge V2, Darwin has built in Li-Poly batteries...so I don't have to mess with chargers and stuff, and no daily fiddling with changing the batteries.

At first I was skeptical of mods that use Li-Poly batteries instead of Li-Ion. So many folks swore they'd never own something they couldn't easily swap the batteries every day, and even more swore they'd never touch anything but 'all mechanical' devices. I finally gave in and tried these two devices. Now I'm a believer! They are far lighter than a comparable Li-Ion battery. They are rated to last at least twice as long (recharge cycles...typically up to 3,000, where regular Li-Ions are usually rated at more like 400). And best of all, I don't have to swap them out all the time. Just top them like a cell phone at bed time every night or two and run with it :) Neither of these devices have given me a lick of trouble over months of constant use and abuse (even including days of floating around on salt water in boats).

Hi and welcome to ECF. I have a file for noobs on my pc at home but am at the cottage until Tues..
First some questions:
Do you work at a desk or close to a pc?.
Are you financially able to spend a lot of $$?.
Do you drive to work?
How many analogs do you smoke per day?
The model that you have chosen has very weak batts- 200 mah. 100 mah= 1 hour of use before recharging..
I would suggest the Riva from Liberty Flights- an extremely reputable company that stands behind their product .They also have a 20% off coupon code. Not expensive, high quality product and the batts are 1100 mah..
I hate menthol analogs but was told by Vets I would enjoy it in my juice- they were right. For good quality cheap juice go to JUGHEADS.co We've Got the Vapors ! and go to the clearance area. He also sells menthol crystals which must be mixed with PG. VG is easily bought but PG is harder to come buy. PG and Nicotine= Throat Hit while VG= Vapor. Boge LR Cartomizers are also a quality product. Make sure your PV is a 510 as it's a common threading and is very compatible with parts..
.I researched very heavily before buying and I decide on a Mod. It has easily surpassed my expectations. I bought the Megalodon because of the reviews and the fact that I can easily and quickly disassemble from a leave at home PV into a small stealth mode PV when needed. My batts are 2400 mah. On single coil cartos they last 24 hrs. I LOVE my dual coils and the batts last 12 hrs..
Buy extra Cartomizers and buy 2 extra batts. Also know that you will be Vaping at least 3-5 ml per day. Make absolute sure you purchase manual batts- no chance of damage to batts from juice and you have far more control over your Vaping experience. Sometimes auto batts will go off because of certain sounds...I push my batt button down for 2 secs before inhaling and hold for another 3-5 secs. Also make absolute sure your PV has a turn off switch- very important..
I smoked 1 PAD and started at 36 mg. I am now Vaping 30 mg and in the next 2 weeks I will try 24 mg. JMHO but better to buy higher mg and if too strong you can dilute with PG and VG..
A's you progress there are also other delivery system options. Below are the various delivery systems..
Atomizer.+ Cartridge- great TH+vapor but constant filling..
Single coil Cartomizer- holds more than above and can be refilled. Good vape
Dual coil carto- holds even more and can be refilled. Great vape
Tanks- depending on the tank is filled every 1-2 days. Have to careful choosing because some have leaking issues but there some that don't have this problem..
Problem is you are going to get many different choices offered by members and it is, in the end, your choice. I would caution there are some sites that offer replicas or knock offs. I would also suggest, before you order, to make absolute sure you have everything. Another order= another shipping charge.+ the wait..
Cheers and Good Luck, Vapoor..

One other VERY IMPORTANT POINT. Drinks lots of water A's the vapor is not from the juice but from our bodies. Many noobs have reported issues because of dehydration and dehydration does negate the Vaping experience. I drink 2 glasses first thing in the a.m. and a total of 3+ liters per day. If you drink more than 4-5 cups of coffee per day understand this will accelerate dehydration. Here's a link for common side effects and solutions.

100% agree. I use the tanks and have had great luck with the JoyE. The knock offs as far as I'm concerned have caused problems from leaking to some bad fits with the 510 threaded options. Ego 1000mah batteries are the way to go as Switched mentioned.

How important is it to look and feel like a cigarette? If that is high on the list then a bloog/volt/510 model with extra batteries and charging case might be what you are looking for.

If you are willing to go to something a little larger. Say the size of a fat pen then the Ego or Krominator etc, is a nice way to go.

If shape means nothing to you and it's all about the vape then go with a darwin or provari or one of the box mods.

I have to be honest here. If anyone threw all that info at me at first I might very well have backed away. I know if they told me to go with a box mod etc I would still be smoking a cigarette. Sometimes we need to take the small steps before the big leap. :)

To be honest from my personal experience I started with a stick style auto battery, and the life of the cartos/battery's were not great. It did the trick to get me to cut my habit down considerably.
I then moved on to a larger manual stick style, which at that point got me off cigarettes completely, but again the battery life was a bit of a let down.
Then moved on to eGo's which greatly improved my battery life.
From there I am now using eGo's, a reo and other box mods and love them.

You have to go with whats comfortable for you and sadly find what works best for you. Some like cartos, some like dripping.

I have a few different mods but for starters I would go with the Ego. Easy to use and lots of parts available for it. Cartomizers or a carto tank for out and about and you can drip at home. If you try to buy from Phat Clouds I hope you have better luck than we did. I hear he can be a good dealer for some. Good luck and welcome aboard

The ego t is a great unit for longer battery life and fairly easy use. I did find it to be a little too delicate for my kind of work I regularily broke the batts in half. If you need long batt and durability with a long lasting value holding mod a Reo grand or a mini would be prefect. My grand will easilly last all day although at work I use my mini which will last most of the day I just carry a spare batt for just in case I need it. Some days I do some I don't.

Thank you for all the great advice everyone! I think I am going to go with the eGo starter kit and work from there. Just a couple of things I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to, just looking for clarification....first, the kit comes with 650 mAh batts, I think those will do me well in many situations, but I was also going to go ahead and order a 900 or 1000 ton have at least another battery kicking around just in case. Is there anything in particular ip need to know about using LR Atomizers with certain battery types? I hear they deliver good vapor and TH, which is what I am looking for.

In any case, I'm going to take the plunge and order my kit tomorrow, thanks for putting up with my noobishness, I'll be sure to check in once I start vaping, I'm sure I'll have a ton more questions then! Again, thanks for the great advice everyone, see you around the forums!!!

If you're going to order another battery then you might as well get an eGo pass-through battery. It has a removable end cap with a usb plug so you can vape it while charging, or just use it as a regular battery for on the go. A single 650mah battery will last most people all day if they don't vape on it constantly. I'm very happy with the amount of time they last for the size.

Also check into the Kanger 2.0 ohm Cartomizers if you want easy and good TH\Flavor, or even the Boge 2.0 ohm. I use the Kanger's personally, but the Boge's are popular as well.

Any LR atomizer will work that fits 510 or 306 connections, but they do die faster than a regular atty. Make sure you grab a few if you want to go that route.

Throat hit has more to do with Nic content in my experience. For me 24mg is hard on the throat, 18mg is more like an analog....but this varies depending on the person of course.

I'd go with the Boge cartos. I bought a bunch of the Kangers and they started off okay, but they developed this funky flavour that others have noticed, so I'm really not a fan of them anymore. Boge cartos have always been solid though.

I'd certainly recommend a 1000mAh battery. I have a couple and they've been great. I'd maybe look into the eGo-VV battery as well. It's 1000mAh but allows you to switch between 3.2V, 3.7V and 4.2V so you can tailor your vaping experience, at least somewhat, and they're not much more than standard 1000mAh batteries. Well, unless you get cheap ones shipped from China. I have an eGo-VV on the way for review, should be arriving this week so I'll have a review vid up on it for those interested.

LR atomizers and cartos will drain the battery a little bit faster, since they draw more current, but it won't be tremendously noticeable unless you start using dual coils. But other than that they give a warmer vape than your standard stuff, which I am personally fond of.
