Hey Guys,

So I have been vaping for about 4 days... yay no more analogs!

I got an eGo-t with a type B atty and a bunch of spare parts.

My issue is that I'm in Canada and it is a pain in the .... to get nic liquids for cheap and I have no one near my area that has a retail location... closest one is about 2+ hours away or about 30 mins across the border which I don't want to deal with customs on this stuff... So I ordered some but the shipping cost is killing me for small bottles...

A good friend of mine from work has been vaping for about 3-4 weeks now and he has a US address so he gets all of his stuff from US suppliers.

So I decided I want to get into DIY liquids!

I currently have a 30ml bottle of 36mg nic pure PG
I went to bulk barn and got 3 nice fruity LorAnn flavors...

Heres my issue:

I heard that adding VG makes it a bit thicker and therefore less likely to leak (darn stupid tanks...) so I don't wanna pay 4-5 bucks for 30ml of vg from my supplier...

So I went to WalMart and found USP Glycerin... I need to know if this is the right stuff so I took a pic...

glycerin.jpg

I don't want to kill myself by using the WRONG stuff so can a vet confirm this is the correct liquid? it says its for topical dry skin relief? I hope this is right... 100ml for 4$ is a LOT better than the same price for 30ml lol

Also, here is the recipe I'm looking at:

50% 36mg PG nic,
10% plain PG
20% plain VG
20% LorAnn flavor

since the flavor is all PG anyway, I would assume that this SHOULD give me 80PG-20VG liquid at 18mg nic. Is that correct? And how long should I let it sit before I vape it?

Another thing is the flavor: I got watermelon, banana creme and wintermint... they are all "Flavors" but I saw that LorAnn also sells flavor oils like cinnamon oil... I hear oil = nono... is that correct?

Thanks a bunch guys!

Any and all suggestions would be super appreciated before I make the jump... Also, It would be nice if this turned out well because I have a few friends that vape that I could make and give/sell liquid to. This would make it easier for them to get it.

Hi and welcome :)

1st VG will slighty make it thicker but it's real job is to make LOTS of vapor. I'd say yes 80-20 is a good mix to start with.
As for the VG brand I normally shy away from wall mart brands just because I don't know enough about them but yes you always want to use USP. But let a vet clear that brand for you.
Your mix looks good.

IMHO please never never use oil based liquids to vape. Its just not safe or worth the risk.

That glycerin is fine.

You seem to have a good handle on the recipes, I will not advise as mine are hit or miss. Some good, some okay, never great. None I make tastes like a vendors, but I don't have sweetener down right. Just play with your ingredients to get flavors & viscosity where you want them, but you are okay on the start of it.

Some use the oils, most do not. Clogs attys and cartos, also from experience, orange is not stable in plastic bottles, lol.

Someone else will come along and explain more.

The glycerin looks fine, I always buy glycerin USP local, from drug stores. The only ingredient should be Glycerin USP 99.5% (or higher), possibly followed by the word (anhydrous).

Your math on the other part is correct. On a single flavor mix I would vape it straight away, after good shaking. On a multi-flavor mix it is okay to vape right away, but the flavor may change over anywhere from a couple days to a couple weeks, as things meld together.

Oil is generally a no-no.

You should be able to buy flavors online okay, as long as there is no nicotine. Popular places include the perfumers apprentice (or the flavor apprentice -- same company), Capellas, natures flavors (their Coffee flavorings section under Organics).

Check out the DIY E-Liquid area of ECF. On the main forum page, do a search and it'll pop up, it's a subforum in the Tips and Tricks area.

Glycerin USP should be thick, clear, I've not noticed a smell (but haven't looked for one). You could always use their Contact link at their site, ask them to please confirm that their Glycerin USP 100ml is a vegetable glycerin, contains nothing other than vegetable glycerin.

(USP establishes a purity standard. In the US ingredient listings are required on products, but Canada rules differ).

As long as it says USP it's okay. I get mine from Walmart or CVS Pharmacy, or a health-food store (Akins.).... I get my PG from a Southern Agriculture store. I know that they have it at Tractor Supply, also. It's meant for cows....somehow...but it's the right stuff if it says USP grade. Problem with the PG is that I have to buy it by the gallon. So.....lots of PG around. :) It costs about $35/gallon at a farm supply store.

USP does not mean it's all-vegetable. I believe USP allows animal glycerin too and that does not taste good to vape. In the US the Walmart Humco brand - Humco has been asked and said theirs is all vegetable. And some have used the CVS brand. And at Michael's crafts - the Wilton Glycerin with the cake decorating supplies is all vegetable.

Whatever kind you got, if you call the company that makes it that could tell you if it's all vegetable - tell them you're a vegetarian or something. ir if you have a normal atomizer and drip tip - try it alone. And taste it - should taste sweet and clean.

Or you can also buy VG at DIY vendors online

You're right. The only Pure vegetable VG I've found is in Health Food Stores.

so i just finished making my first 2 10ml batches... I didn't have plain pg so i had some apple pg doubler from a friend so both have a little kick of apple... havent vaped them yet but 1 is LorAnns watermelon (and apple lol) and the other is Banana creme (and apple...) omg the watermelon smells SO GOOD!

I cant wait to try them later tonight... I suppose if it is not vegetable based glycerin it will taste weird? Savory like protein or just weird? Thanks a bunch for the help and pointers guys... ill just use the apple doubler for now until i find PG in reasonable quantities... (If i bought a gallon of PG in a pail and brought it home, my wife would kill me... lol she still thinks this is just gonna be a phase... but after 3 days smoke free, i don't think so... not to mention we aren't rich so spending 150$ on a "phase" would also put me in the doghouse... lol

I hope these 2 batches turn out... the only thing I'm worried about is the color... the lorann flavors have a deep color and il worried that my vapor or saliva might turn pink or red from the watermelon and look weird... any thoughts?

thanks again,

Paul

Congrats. That's why it's important to test the new juices in an atty so you don't ruin a carto if the taste doesn't suit you. I also had some Lorans watermelon but I found it irritated my mouth to the point of small cankers....just my experience and I gave it to a friend who had no problems with it and in fact she ordered more :D

Oils aren't very vaper friendly and it has to be mixed with alcohol and also clogs up delivery devices fast- also makes for a harsh vape and no one knows the long term effect of vaping oil. Re: the animal glycerin the jury is still out on that and I prefer the natural real VG. Some say the animal VG has a funny taste to it.
