Hi all,
First let me say you all rock. I've been lurking around here for a couple of months, finally registered yesterday and have been hanging out in the ECF Library being a big ol sponge for all this info. My local e-cig choices are limited to 2 brands of disposables and a blank stare when I ask about anything more advanced. I can't thank you enough for providing such thorough and excellent information and advice!

Thanks to the Library here and supplier info, I'm pretty positive I will be ordering an Joye EGO-C starter kit. I've found a custom kit that offers the bigger battery or twist battery, and comes with either the Vision clearomizer or the mini Vivi Nova. These custom kits include replacement coils/coil heads. What does this part do and how often should it be replaced? The non custom "official" starter kits come with atomizers. Do the coils replace the atomizer because of the change to the clearomizer or tank?
There is also an option for 1.8 or 2.4 ohms. Yes, I have indeed read a couple threads here regarding ohms and to honest, my eyes glazed over pretty quickly. Do I need to make some coffee and pay attention, or should ohms matter at this time?

For initial juice, I will be ordering a tobacco flavor and 3 or 4 fruit flavors. I've read the fruit flavors can crack the plastic of the clearomizer or tank. Can this be avoided by cleaning out the tank every day or anything else?

I've also read about usb passthroughs... do I understand it correctly that you can plug into a usb port and vape without using the battery? Anyone know if this is available for the EGO setup?

Ok, I think that's my questions for now. My brain is overloaded. Thanks for any help!

Not really a bad price for that kit however the Vision V3 / Stardust Replaceable is not that great of a clearo IMHO.

Here is an alternative for you:

EDIT:

Regarding ohms - Ohms and volts are directly related to watts which is basically how much power you're vaping. Too high a wattage and things burn. Too low and you dont atomize the juice. When working with a fixed voltage device such as an ego/kgo a 1.8 ohm head will give you a hotter vape while something in the 2.9-3.2 will be cooler and possibly produce less vapor.

Regarding replacement heads - The heads are the part of the clearo that wick and atomize the juice. After a week or two they tend to become funky and need to be replaced.

MEGA EGO-C and Vision Clearomizer Kit - $63.00 : Rocky Mountain Vapor, The Mountain top of Electronic Cigarettes
eGo fires at 3.3 volts and the 2.4 ohms heads are too high for it= weak vape. The Kgo fires at 3.7 volts. Proper ohms for either the eGo or Kgo should be 1.7- 2.2 ohms. As for the Kit there's "usually" a weak link...the Vision V3 are the weak link.
As posted by supergerbil this is the superior kit IMO

It would leave you with extra $$ to buy additional superior juice delivery systems (holds and vaporizes the juice).
Here's a Kgo review

For a few $$ more you could purchase a Variable voltage Kit- adjustable voltage and fires from 3.3- 4.8 volts

Welcome Dizzylizzy!

I started with an eGo-C upgrade with passthrough. The battery is built into it so it is not something you need or would want to remove. Yes you can plug those into any usb slot and vape while it charges. I vaped from my computer many a times!

One thing that I loved about the eG0-C upgrade is that it has 2 different modes. It can run at 3.6 or 4.1 volts. I found that I liked different flavors at different volts, which is the reason I ended up buying a volcano tube. This is also the reason alot of people buy the Twist. Everyone I know that has gotten a twist has loved it.

As for the ohms, I am going to see if I can make this really simple to understand because it took me awhile to figure it out too.
Ohms equals resistance. So the lower ohms the less resistance allowing for higher power then what a higher resistance would give you.
Now higher power doesn't always mean it's better, it is all what your preference is. Some may argue with me on this but it all comes down to what you find that you enjoy better. My suggestion is buy 1 1.8 atty and 1 2.5 atty and try them both. I like a 1.8 on my eGo-C upgrade (running at 4.1v) but I use a 3.0 on my lava tube, I just think it works better for my taste.

i would def grab a kit w/ a variable voltage (twist)

as for the replacement heads,
if you vape all day or if you vape every other hour or so
it could last a day or a week
it all depends on you

low resistance is better IMO so 1.8 would be good to vape @ 3.4v-3.7v, which is where the twist vv battery would come in handy.
higher ohms would need higher volts where the ego just wouldn't be able to do.

i would recommend the KGO VV from hoosier e cigs
3.0v to 6.0v semi-passthrough is perfect for a start up mod. not a kit but a great starting battery at a great price
up to 6 volts will allow you to vape those higher ohm cartos, ect.

1200MAH is $28 KGO V.V. 650mAh
650MAH is $26 KGO V.V. 650mAh

Concerning the question about certain flavors that can crack or melt clearomizers or tanks, I've written a blog article about this phenomenon. I provide a video link to an actual tank cracking with one of these flavors, a link to a long list of the flavors that have been verified to crack tanks, and provide suggestions and pictures of juice delivery devices that are safe to use with these flavors:

I'm with Vapoor--this is the best intro kit available at the moment.

Get a couple of Spinners, or a Spinner and a Twist, an eVod and a T3 (they only have green T3s left in stock). And add a few extra coils for your clearos--those are sold separately.

Good luck and welcome to ECF!

ego kit should be around 50.00 1.8 and 2.4 ohm is your resistance. the lower the ohms the more wattage=more throat hit. I use 1.8 and love strong throat hit. Vivi mini is fine but I prefer a kanger T2. yes you just unscrew the coil, wick and screw in a new one. they are called heads. You will replace them about every 2-4 weeks and cost around 2 bucks or less. hope this helps. happy vaping.

Frantic, thanks for the info on the ohms, and i think that was the first article i read here, lol.
Baditude thanks for the links!
I'm thinking now i should be building my own setup with a variable battery and charger and so on. I'm enamored with the Pro tank, thinking i will come to appreciate the durability and lack of worry. So far i do know i want to be able to go most of a day without refilling or charging, vaping about once an hour. I currently smoke about a pack a day. Oh, and def need a passthrough. Are these pretty compatable things, or mostly model specific? My budget is about $100-$125 to get started.
I reiterate, you guys rock :)

Welcome, as a newbie myself (vaping for 1 month), this is all good advice. I listened to the advice and got an ego-c twist battery, which is well worth the little bit of extra money, I really don't worry too much about the ohms, I just twist until I like the vapor produced which tends to differ depending on your tank or clearomizer. I currently use several different tanks or clearos, I discovered that there is a little bit of personal preference involved with these. I currently prefer the Viva Nova (mini or tank) and the Kanger T2. I was advised that once I jumped in and started, it would all become a little clearer, which is true. I suggest getting a couple of different tanks or clearos, just in case you don't like one. I also thought about getting the pass through, but I found with the 1000 mah twist battery that they last all day and more, ( I was a two pack a day smoker). Charge one while using the other, just my mini two cents worth, I researched until I was ripping my hair out, but settled down once I chose a kit and started vaping. Hang in there, don't be discouraged.
