Hello everyone, I'm new to vaping and I have a few questions that I hope the pros could answer for me. I would really appreciate it. I guess I'll give a little background first:

I am a pack a day smoker. I've tried to quit a couple times for health and cost reasons. My main problem isn't so much the chemical addiction as it is the actual act of smoking: the hand to mouth motion and inhalation. I'm hoping an ecigarette will help with this, although I know it's not a guarantee, and even if I can only cutback on smoking I will still be very very happy. I also really want one so I can enjoy it indoors. I started looking for a starter kit last week and after doing some research I settled on a Joye 510-T which includes the following:

  • 2x 510-T batteries (Auto)
  • 2x 510-T Atomizers
  • 5x 510-T Semi Transparent tank Cartridges
  • 1x USB Charger
  • 1x AC Plug to USB Adapter
I picked this kit for a few reasons. I wanted something very similar to a real cigarette it terms of size to start with, I can explore mods at a later time. The tank system appealed to me so I don't have the deal with cartomizers or filler material. I picked the auto batteries because I feel they'll be easier for a beginner, and it's easy to switch to a manual later if I choose. The kit should arrive in a couple days and I just had a few questions that were on my mind. I've done a bit of research, but there are a few answers still eluding me.

My main question is about maintenance. I know all the parts eventually need replacing, but what can I do to help them last? What should I clean, how often, etc? Should I always use different cartridges for different flavors or can a cartridge be cleaned well enough to use for a different flavor? Does the atomizer need any cleaning between flavors? How long, on average, should parts last (assuming moderate use)?

On a few sites I saw the option of upgrading to XL batteries. They had a longer battery life and basically made it look like the 100 version of a normal cig. I'm wondering if there are any downsides to these other than a slightly increased cost.

Also I'm a little curious about PCCs. If I do switch completely to vaping I'll probably need one if I stick with this model. I'm just wondering how well they work and if the 510-T is any different from the regular 510 in terms of cases. I'm assuming if I did upgrade to XL batteries they wouldn't fit in the case. Do they make PCCs that can accommodate the XL batteries?

If anyone could please help me out I would really appreciate it. I can't wait to try vaping. If I like it I know I'm going to turn into one of those people who needs 10 of everything and has to try every single flavor ever. So I might not save as much money as expected, but it will be a slightly better habit than smoking.

What should I clean, how often, etc?
Mainly the threadings in the battery before every charge and atomizer at least once every 2 weeks (or as often as u change flavor of juice and even more often like once per week if ur juice is dark or high VG)

Should I always use different cartridges for different flavors or can a cartridge be cleaned well enough to use for a different flavor?
They can be cleaned well enough if doing the alcohol or hot water bath but changing or not is entirely up2u.

Does the atomizer need any cleaning between flavors?
Yes as stated above.

How long, on average, should parts last (assuming moderate use)?
different for everybody. some can make them last a month. some 2 weeks. but average is 2 weeks for attys. Assuming no accidents, battery should last for months. (300 charge cycles on average). The tanks should last forever unless accidents again BUT! the cap for the tanks will get loose eventually after refills after refills. so it'll be handy to use a syringe to refill them without popping the cap off. (syringe to fill through the tiny hole)

I'm wondering if there are any downsides to these other than a slightly increased cost.
No except being a lil longer and that = heavier.

Also I'm a little curious about PCCs. If I do switch completely to vaping I'll probably need one if I stick with this model. I'm just wondering how well they work and if the 510-T is any different from the regular 510 in terms of cases.
The difference between 510 n 510-T is the 'T' T refers to Tank so a 510-T set will come with a Atty for Tank and Tank itself whereas 510 will come with a regular 510 atty and cartridge (with tiny polyfills inside) No idea how well pcc works but it'll be handy for charging on the move as well as storing a couple of spare batts.

I'm assuming if I did upgrade to XL batteries they wouldn't fit in the case. Do they make PCCs that can accommodate the XL batteries?
Need to check with supplier if that particular PCC accomodates XL batts.

Hope the answers helps. Welcome again to ECF and glad u decided to make the change. GL and Vape on!

Hi and Welcome! R3 did an excellent job in addressing your questions. My only additional suggestion is, if you haven't already, purchase some cartomizers. Cartriges are a less than satisfying experience for many and cartomizers have the atomizer and poly combined to make for easier vaping. Also make sure that you get enough juice in different flavors to see what you like.

Congrats on making the switch. Make sure to post any other questions you have once you get going; we all love to help.

If I like it I know I'm going to turn into one of those people who needs 10 of everything and has to try every single flavor ever. So I might not save as much money as expected, but it will be a slightly better habit than smoking.

I use this system. Just rinse the cartridge with water between flavors. They rinse out easily. I never clean the atomizer between flavors unless it's some really strong root beer or mint. Those linger. Just blow your atomizer out after each flavor...from the battery end. Blow hard into a paper towel until no liquid comes out. Then you're good to go. I just vape the atty until it dies or clogs. I don't clean them because it's a real pain to do so and never made much of a difference when I did clean them..Just make sure you have a nice supply on hand. They only last maybe 2-3 weeks.

You will definitely enjoy having a couple of 1000mAh batteries. They last a nice long time between charges. A car charger can be handy too. I have a 10 battery charger I got from Cignot.com (you need adapters for it though). I keep all my eGo-T batteries on that charger and just keep them in a rotation. That way you always have plenty of batteries to take with you wherever you go. I always have a spare with me and extra cartridges...just in case. I've never used a PCC so I can't speak to that. You can email Vicky at Cignot.com with any eGo-T questions and she will answer you IMMEDIATELY (during business hours). That's no exaggeration either. BEST CS on the internets. :) Enjoy your new toy! It's the perfect system for a new vaper. I still use mine everyday.

ALSO...think about getting an eGo-T pass-through! It's great for when you're at your computer. It's USB powered so you don't use your other batteries while sitting at the computer. It's great to have!

On edit: I just wanted to add that I just picked up some Mega SMOK Dual Coil Cartos for my eGo-T batteries. They hold 5ml of juice! I thought I'd mention them because I bought the at Cignot.com and they work great so far, but today was the first day I used one, so I can't speak to longevity yet. :) If you go to Cignot.com, check 'em out.

One note - NEVER charge any batteries other than 510-T auto batteries in a 510-T auto charger. If you get any other kind of 510 battery then you need to get them their own charger cable and label the cables. And note - never buy FS510 - they are reverse polarity with a cable that will fry all 510 batteries including the ones you have.

Most people here use and recommend manuals (harder to damage or kill with juice leaks, easier to get a good drag every time). The 280mah Joye 510 manuals are very nice and make 128mm ecig with a cartomizer (what most prefer for everyday vaping). You could use these with your T-atomizers and tanks and with cartomizers and anything 2.5 to 3 ohms with 510 threading. You can use almost everything on your autos but only on manuals should you use a drip tip with a normal atomizer to test juices and vape occasional or thick juices (drip tips not recommend for atomizers on auto batteries)

Batteries should last 150-250 recharges unless you kill those autos first with juice leaks. Atomizers last 1 minute to a few months but they will degrade regardless of how clean you keep them and start getting worse at making vapor and flavor. Using clear light juices (rather than dark, opaque, cloudy juices that drop flavoring sediment) may keep your atomizers working well longer. And for any that die quickly, it's good to buy from somewhere that states it warranties on atomizers.

Most people end up switching to cartomizers for everyday vaping. A cartomizer with thin clear juice lasts most 7-10 days (or less if you vape constantly) if you fill totally to stated capacity, and settle it on all sides and ends, then keep it damp while vaping. Then you throw it out and start totally fresh with a new one.
