Noob questions!

Hey guys! I just registered. I've been reading a bunch of the forums for the past couple weeks and I thought I'd register. I'm totally new to e-cigs and I had a couple of questions. I just recieved my TW Titan tank in the mail yesterday. I installed the battery and some liquid and started vaping. Here's my question, should I be tasting a slightly smokey, cotton-mouth taste along with the flavor? From reading the forums it seemed like I should only be tasting the flavor of juices, but I am a base almost bitter taste to it. The juice I ordered was from EC Blends. So far I've tried coffee black, and strawberry. The flavor is extremely mild and I can only barely taste them. Mostly I just get a kind of "yucky" cotton-mouth. It's not a burnt taste, so I know the atomizer's wet. So is this normal?

How long has it been since you last had a cigarette? I get the same tastes that you do. I have read that it may have more to do with (our) lack of taste buds than anything else. I hope someone with more experience will confirm this. If it is what I think, then it will come and go for a while until your taste buds start working correctly again. You may need to go thru quite a few different juices until you find something you can actually taste right now. You won't stick with it long if it tastes like that. Out of the 18 I have tried, I have 3 that I can taste without that smokey, perfume taste: Pineapple Pulp, Strawberry Cooler, and Watermelon Overload, all from Alien Visions and all with a flavor bump. I included those just in case you may have taste buds like mine. Don't give up, it just gets better!

Finding a flavor that you like can be a process. I don't like the perfumey, chemically ones. And I found out I don't like the high PG ones either. Or fruits.

Remember to DRINK A LOT OF WATER. I drink about 3 liters a day now, and it keeps my throat from getting scratchy and the flavors from muting. Dehydration can be a huge factor. And if you look at how much vapor that thing produces vs. how much you are blowing out, you will realize that the vapor is coming from you!

If it is a cartomizer it may not be saturated with liquid.
My first experience with one i found that there was a sweet spot on the amount of liquid. The taste varies with the amount, too much flooding to little cottony or slightly scorched taste.
My cartos you could use the condom method of prefilling from the bottom and that helps.
Someone with your device may know something better, stick with it and keep off the ciggies. Good luck and keep asking questions

What RonSki said is true. Years of smoking have adversely affected your taste buds. Good news is that they do eventually heal. How long this process takes can not be easily determined as it is different for everyone. Best advice I can give is to drink plenty of water. Vaping dehydrates you and pulls moisture from the mucous membranes in your mouth and throat, despite it being "water vapor". Practice good oral hygeine to promote the healing process.

You may need to alter your vaping technique a little. Our sense of taste is greatly affected by our sense of smell. You will recall that when you have a head cold or nasal congestion, that food or drink may lose their flavor and taste bland or tasteless. When exhaling your vapor, allow some to exit through your nose to allow yourself to "taste through your nose".

Another fact somewhat related: Most of the nicotine in vapor is absorbed in the mouth and throat, not in the lungs. So long, slow draws into the mouth, like sucking a milkshake through a straw, before inhaling into the lungs, is best for maximum nicotine absorbtion.

When using attachments that have a low resistance rating (anything that has a heating coil that turns the liquid into vapor) such as 1.8 ohm or lower, these can cause a harsh or too hot of a vapor for those people who may prefer a "cooler vape". If a cooler vape is desired, something with a higher or standard resistance rating 2.0-2.5 ohm) would be recommended.

Drink lots of water and switch out your juice once in a while. Some vendors also allow you to increase the flavor options. Vixen Vapors is one that does.

along with everything else that was said different flavors are good for different people i could see coffee giving you that flavor i personaly have never found a strawberry that i like from any company ecblends has some of the best flavors i have vaped i recently picked up the dragons blood and i have vaped 40mls without changing flavors so i would recomend trying some subtle flavors and see if you still get the taste and mabey even a diff cart or atty just to try to trouble shoot what it could be

Welcome to ECF EnderBlair; I second what Baditude said about the taste and all. I still find that when I exhale through my nose I get a different sensation than when I exhale through my mouth. BTW I've got a lot of juice from ECBlends and have liked most of them proubably about 90% all been good for me. But your going to find out what one person loves, another wil hate. It all depends on the individual. Give it some time and ask lots of questions when you have them.

Thanks everyone for all the advice! It's actually been quite a while since I smoked, so I don't think it's my taste buds. I'll try other flavors and another atomizer. Maybe I'll order one from alien vapor just to compare. Do you find that VG has a more bitter taste than PG?

As a generalization, no. Possibly the other way around. Generally speaking, pg can carry more flavor than vg, but it also may affect a minority of vapors in a negative way with sensitivity issues.

I've read that vg may add some sweetness to a flavor, provides more vapor production than pg used alone, and definitely is thicker than pg, sometimes causing wicking issues with polyfill in cartos or wicks in clearomizers.

K, just tried vanilla (EC Blends 100% VG), same issue. I barely taste flavor, so all I get is a vape that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But I haven't let the vanilla or coffee steep yet. So I might try that. And maybe the extra atomizer that i bought with the cig.

I just remember reading that these helped some people cut out sugar cravings too. I'm just not getting that.
