Good thread, some good tips and advice.
Just thought I would throw in my :2c:. This is from my experience, regarding the 510 and the eGo, both of which I use every day. I have the joye 510 with the PCC, and an eGo passthrough, the one with the battery, you can unplug and vape. I use the smoktech 1.5 dual coil cartos, on both, and for almost a month have had no problems, both vape great and are still kicking. Most of the time I have 18mg tobacco in the 510, and use it when I have a craving, and the eGo is my main vape, with whatever flavor I have mixed that day. I've been DIY my juices since I started and it's not that hard, if I can, anyone can. I use Easy E-juice calculator, so I am able to mix to whatever level nic I want, right now I'm down to 14mg for the most part. That's the easy part, hard part is getting the flavor to come out right LOL.
The 510 was my first real e-cig (I don't consider the gas station one real, but it did give me a chance to try it) and I am still using it, so I disagree that the 510 was not a good first choice. But everyone has their own tastes and preferences, IMO.

Hey Balt - The 510 is great, it's basically an EGO with a much smaller battery. Without a pass-through though, the battery doesn't last too long. If you go out with say 2 510's for the evening, you may just be tempted to buy a pack of real cigs after your batteries run out...

Noobs need to know this cause I didn't...:?:

Another tip i would give new vapers...carry a paperclip and some napkins or paper towels with you...no matter what model you choose. It is almost inevitable that at some time while you are out you will encounter a little bit of dripped juice, have to refill (not while driving!) or something else similar.

I carry extra refilled carts and cartomizers and my paperclip in a paper towel lined mini-altoids tin.

Also...here are some other things I wish I would have known in beginning:

-Burnt taste is not normal....it can mean a couple of things, low juice is primary...but it can also happen if you vaped a cart/carto til the filling burned

- i find that I get more juice leaking - when batteries are/start running low. Leaking Juice is exactly that - it can leak into your mouth during the inhale, leak at the sides, collect in battery screw adapter well (though the latter two also happen if you are over filling or using a very thin juice)

- a watery noise/vibration on inhale, in my experience, is an atty with pooled liquid, either from over filling, or weak battery or both. Def need to blow out the atty and dry it up. I don't think it will Harm the atty too much, after all it is meant to come in contact with liquid...but it definitely hinders a good inhale and possibly the flavor of your juice (because the atty is "waterlogged" so to speak.)

I started with a mini automatic...think they are called 306..? They got me off analogs after 3 days...I went to buy juice from a vendor, and he let me try my carto on one of the ego batteries...I ended up buying 3 kits . The difference was amazing, compared to what I had. I have been analog free now for just over two months...and IT ROCKS!

After that upgrade, and the 30 bucks I spent in juice...I limit myself to $20 every two weeks to get new equipment/juice...that way I am still spending way less than analogs,, but also expanding my vaping experience a a manageable pace.

Having said that, just know that sometimes it can take a little while to find the right set-up for you...whether it is battery life, throat hit, juice flavor, nicotine strength, etc. It can seem overwhelming for some, some are just lucky to find what they like right off the bat. Give it a fair shake, it can be pretty rewarding overcoming the analogs.

Forgot to mention - juice in the mouth can also be from too tightly packed (filler stuff) cartridge or dragging too hard.
Again, this is just my experience...may not hold true for all. But I think the biggest thing different for me was the drag...not the same as analog.

An easy way to get the hang of it, is NOT to make a complete seal with your lips at first. It will help you to adjust the drag until you get the feel for it.

All good tips!

If I could add one more; make sure to clean the contacts of batteries and charger. I use a slighty damp paper tower and roll it like a qtip, then I clean those contacts, usualy black stuff/gunk will be there. Clean till clear. It will improve charging/battery charge longevity.
