Noobie Here!

Hi guys, brand new to e-cigs here and need some advice as I wish to use this long term instead of normal cigarettes.

I have been a heavy smoker for about 5 years, and yesterday I purchased my Green Smoke kit, well 2 of them. One for my GF and I.

Anyway it has been fantastic. My cravings are gone, and works great. Although the chemically taste will take some time getting used to and the throat hit can be a tad rough at times but overall a good product.

However I have noticed while searching on vaping websites etc that this is a complete noob product and quite costly compared to the home made systems.

You see I stay in South Africa and these custom made, DIY vapes are pretty much non existent here. I purchased this because I could get it from a tobacconist near my GF's work which was easy.

but Anyway I realize in the long run at R130 +- / $11 dollars for 5 of those cartridges and can work out expensive.

So I wanted to ask what would be the most cost effective way to do this. Should I import a hardcore vape with the e-liquids. Which I don't mind doing.

What would you guys recommend - or is Green Smoke not bad.

Hi and welcome!

There is a South African sub-forum. You can read the posts now, but you have to make 5 posts in this forum before you can ask questions in that one.

ETA: Green Smoke is okay if you like it, but it is expensive. It also has uncommon threading so different juice delivery systems (like cartomizers and clearomizers) can't be used on it without an adaptor.

The reason the Green Smoke is often mentioned in the light of a noob device is because recharging batteries gets to be a pain in the ...., pretty quick. Did for me. Luckily, we have many options for longer battery life devices, many of which have variable voltage, which allows you to customize the vape to your preferences. So, more power, longer battery life, greater flexibility.....all begins to sound very good, particularly after you complete the transition and really start to "like" vaping. See that happen here dozens of times every day. You're lucky that the kits you have now do it for you. Many don't have that same experience, and fail at vaping because they cannot be satisfied. I was one of those. And you have an open and questioning mind, you're going to love this ride. It only gets better. So, I say, lurk, read, post, shop, check out the subforums and enjoy a very satisfying new "hobby". Welcome to the Forum, congrats on quitting, good luck and vape on!

I am really enjoying thus far. But looking at videos from US vapefest they seem to have bad ... looking vapes and they really appeal to me and I assume with the e-liquid it will start working out bit cheaper. I also looks like they produce larger amounts of vapour?

So I wanted to know what KIT is the most common enthusiast style vape?

Also where can i get the best e-liquids? I would prefer ones with Vegetable Glycerine (VG) as the base..

I smoked Greensmoke for a month, they are a great cig like vape, flavours are good. The reason I changed was like yourself, I worked out it would cost me 2/3 of the cost of smoking. If only pre filled cig-a-likes were available I would go back to Greensmoke. I know people who have used them happily for 18months, they are simple, just work.

Below is a simple Cheap Ego system with refillable tank clearo.
Ego battery + Evod head $20
https://www.fasttech.com/products/1368506

spare heads for Evod $1.25
https://www.fasttech.com/products/1361500

get 1 of the first and a couple of the second and you have a decent starter kit.

I'd recommend variable voltage as well. Much more "customizable" for individual tastes, different juices taste better at different voltages, and so on. Search around on Fasttech's site, I think they have some.

Coupled with the Evod, makes a great vape.

Get extra heads / coils for whatever top end you get!

The challenge with juice.... not knowing what flavors you like... and, actually, you not knowing yet, and they will change over time!

You need to search the web for vendors who can ship internationally first. And then I'd suggest getting several flavors in smaller bottles until you can narrow down what you like. If you got say 250 ml of something and detested it, there's no savings!

I think most of us have found some flavors we really like, some just ok and some UGGHH!! Those you can pass on to another vaper, who may like them,or just set aside and try again at a later date.

Congrats Gizmonic! Every drag you take off that Green Smoke is one less drag off a cigarette! I started on Blu. I disciplined myself on those for roughly 6 months. Pick it up, enjoy 10 puffs, put it on the charger until ready for another 10 puffs. Got me off cigarettes until I found a better setup. Now I have a better setup and juice, I found I chain vape, but am cigarette free going strong for just over a year and a half! If you are satisfied, you are gold!
