I'm all alone on a Saturday night, SO very sick.
My nose is STUFFED up, completely stuffed up on one side.
I've tried everything to get rid of it and I can't. I'm miserable.

Also my right eye wont stop tearing up and every so often a wave of prickles hits my nose and I'm sneezing over and over again. I can't stand this! Does your immune system drop when you quit cigarettes? Because I swear, I almost never get sick. This is horrible. My last resort is to take a hot shower and end my night.
BOY these are some powerful sneezes, and my eye is just flooded.

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

I've got vapor rub on my chest, I've blown my nose a thousand times, nothing is working. =
Hate being sick.

How long ago did you quit smoking? It's not so much your immune system gets weak from quitting, smoking actually causes your immune system to be weak.

If you quit recently, your body is trying to heal yourself from the damage you caused smoking and you probably just caught a bug, bad timing.

Vitamin C and plenty of liquids is your friend. Oh and rest!

I agree with real Sudafed or your pharmacy's equivalent generic. Also, a long renouned remedy for all sorts of things is honey and cinnamon. I like to put a small cup of water in the microwave, get it hot. You can use your favorite herbal tea, or not. Add 2tsp honey and 1tsp cinnamon. Stir well. Drink. Also, if you can get licorice root (antivirus) capsules, you can add one capsule of that to the honey/cinnamon mix.

There is no "cure" for a cold, but there are remedies for the symptoms. I hope you find relief soon! Good luck!

PS try a strong menthol liquid in your PV and exhale through your nose.

Wow, they sell eyedrops for watery eyes Loveridden? I should definitely pick some up. My eyes wont stop gushing. Thank you for the tip! :) Well I woke up really late this morning, around 11:30 to be exact. I had NO energy. I'm thinking this is more of a bug than allergies this time. But, normally watery eyes would point me toward allergies.

Thanks for the help everyone. I did a little research on euchanasia, that was interesting. Whats strange is that the active alkaloids are cannabinoid receptor activators? WOW, interesting. I'm going to read a bit more about this. I was BIG into entheogens when I was younger. This type of thing really interests me, so thanks.

Only one thing can cut through sinus congestion like that, and that's Afrin nasal spray (or store brand/generic equivalent).

I only resort to it when my nose feels like it's stopped up with cement - use it for three days maximum, then shift over to using Sudafed + nettie pot.

If the congestion is fairly tame, then some good soup spiked with a little cayenne pepper can do the trick, but it's useless if you're completely congested...

oh man this is perfect, I'm taking notes. Afrin nasal spray, perfect. Adding cayenne pepper to soup is similar to what I already do, although I use regular cracked black pepper and/or wasabe powder. I need to search google to see if I already have something that I can use AS a netti pot. Maybe a regular stovetop pot would work. Definitely getting myself some of those anti-tearing drops and some afrin.

Yup, that's why I mentioned tapering off of it at three days. As long as you do that, you're fine. Many years ago, I found myself using it for weeks at a time, and learned my lesson. Now, I only use it for those moments when I just can't breath otherwise. It especially makes it so much easier to get to sleep when you're stuffed up - but don't take it right before going to bed, use it at least a few hours before you do, otherwise you might find that it wakes you up a bit. Also, get the 12-hour one, this way you can sleep well through the night and only use it 2x per day.

So, the rule with Afrin is: only when nothing else can clear you up and it's just miserable! And then, only for 2-3 days, then substitute Sudafed and nettie pot/sinus cleanse.

As for nettie pot/sinus cleanse, I highly recommend the Neilmed Sinus Rinse, which they have at all drug stores now. Also make sure that you use distilled or bottled water, which is sterile, not tap water...It probably won't do you any good until you're less congested, and not even water can get through if you're that stuffed-up...

well I got myself some afrin and tried it, even though my nose isn't horribly stuffed up. I wish I had read your post sooner because i am an insomniac and it did wake me up almost instantly haha :p But thank you for the recommendations. This should help a lot.

Oh no!!! Well, glad that you got it, you should feel much better...

as per the nettie pot suggestion i would be carefull wit those as well.. I was watching the news the other week and heard a story about a girl using 1 and developed a serious nasal infection due to the use of 1...

Something worthy of looking into more :D

That's why it's recommended that you use distilled or otherwise sterile water. Some people just boil some water and store it in a bottle. Most tap water is very safe, and infections are rare - but serious when they do happen, so it's easy enough to avoid the risk by using distilled/boiled/bottled water, especially if you live in a rural area...

So sorry you're sick Plumes! Are you able to vape at all? I have a strong suspicion that e-liquid with a high PG ratio, i.e., 80/20 PG/VG, acts like a disinfectant and kills cold and flu germs. (I haven't had even one cold or bout of the flu since I started vaping over 3 years ago.) 80/20 PG/VG is just my own preference. I imagine a lesser amount of PG could also work.

I do have sinus problems sometimes and keep generic nasal spray to unclog things so I can breath. Usually it's worse when I lie down to go to sleep. As far as I can remember, a couple squirts of spray did not interfere with sleep - it actually let me breath so I could get to sleep. Everybody's different, plus my generic, off-the-shelf stuff, may not be as strong as yours.

Also, it's true that you can get addicted to it. I had a friend who would go into panic mode when she got close to running out. My spray doesn't get used very much, so I've never even used a whole bottle before its expiration date.

Your post reminded me of the time I mixed up 10 mls of e-liquid and put several crystals of menthol in it - man-o-man!, my sinuses had never been that clear in my whole life! LOL! I had to dilute that batch a lot.

Not much of anything tastes good when you're sick like you are right now, but feeling menthol work is nice and refreshing. Those Sudacare shower soothers Lostinky mentioned sound like a good thing too. Much of the time, your own body knows what to do to heal itself - and though it's not pleasant, letting your nose run and eyes water as much as you can stand, can help it heal faster. I know drinking lots of water helps a lot in flushing the bad stuff out of your system. Oh yeah, and don't forget chicken broth or bullion helps too.

You could have a sinus infection, so if this "crud" doesn't let up or gets worse over the next day or so, especially if you're running a fever, it's probably a good idea to see a doctor (who will most likely prescribe an antibiotic).

I remember something else that could help. My old neighbor swore that rubbing feet with a good amount of Vick's and wearing socks to bed (to keep the Vick's on the feet and off the sheets) cured her kids of colds and flu when she could not afford to take them to the doctor. Ya never know - it couldn't hurt.

Anyway, I hope you are able to get relief soon!
