Noob diyer here. I agree with most people that juice tends to taste better after sitting for a while. However, I have a problem with steeping with one of my recipes. Here's the recipe
8% TFA Pear
8% TFA Fruit Punch
8% TFA Blueberry Candy

When first mixed, this is awesome. After just a few days to a week it totally loses that good flavor and gets dull and a little perfumey. Is there anything I can do to change this?

Thanks
Greg

Steeping is an interesting topic. There are people who completely believe in it and some who take the opposite side of the fence!

There are a number of products, which can possibly help your mix! You may want to try AAA Magic Mask which I feel is best suited for fruit flavored mixes. This additive reduces the acid perception without modifying the pH. Now that being said, your PH may be the issue. PH is a key ingredient in food stability, so adding some of The Flavor Apprentice Sour, which is Malic Acid in PG, would alter your PH. You would not want to add very much as it will become sour quickly but a couple drops lets say in a 10ml batch should not give that noticeable of a sourness!

Hope this helps :)

24% total flavoring is pretty strong. Steeping can sometimes increase the intensity of your flavors and have the unexpected effect of actually tasting weaker and perfumey as your taste buds get overwhelmed. This effect has been discussed by Hoosier in the DIY section of this forum. Maybe you could try 4 or 5% of each flavor, instead of 8%, and see if that helps

Kimerpuff has an great suggestion about adjusting Ph. Maybe drop a few drops of lemon juice in you mix. (There is also a thread on this in the DIY section of this forum.)

Yes, bluegrasslover has violated Hoosier's Rule of Mixing #7. (Per the blog as I have no idea which number that was in the posts I have responded to over my 2+ years here.)

Steeping does not always increase the flavoring level, per the other blog post, but it can so that was the reason I made rule #7 for myself.

OP might want to read my blog. The typos have already been pointed out to me, but you're free to point them out if you like. I even encourage comments good or bad.

Bluegrasslover, a personal question if I may?

Why Otis? Why not one of the Darlings? (I thought most of the guys that played the Darling brothers were Bluegrass players.)

No reason really. I just noticed I didn't have an avatar and had this pic which was perfectly sized.
