Hi
I have a question about how people are able to distinguish different flavors when the review e liquids. For example: Lets say the flavor is Lemon Cake the review would kind of go like this....."On the inhale I get the tartness of the lemon and on the exhale I get the sweetness of the cake with a slight hint of vanilla (blah blah)." I'm not able to tell all these flavors upon inhale or exhale unless it's in the description (I get some flavors but not in detail). For awhile I even had vapor mouth. I've tried different flavors from different companies but my main go-to is Halo e liq. I've been smoke-free for about 2mos :rickroll:so maybe me and my tastebuds are still learning IDK lol

Has anyone else experience this? And will I learn to distinguish different taste and flavors like a pro soon? lol

Your taste buds are still healing from smoker's tongue. The length of the healing process varies from person to person. Even after a full recovery, we can get a case of vaper's tongue.

Everyone has a different taste palate, too. No two vapers will experience the same flavor the same. This is why I rarely watch or read e-liquid reviews, because I know from experience that I'll not likely get the same results as the reviewer did. You'll also find that different juice delivery devices will provide a somewhat difference in flavor production, as will different voltages used (the so-called "sweet spot").

The best way to find flavors is to visit a local vape shop which allows sampling of their flavors before you buy them. If none are available, buy sample packs from those vendors who offer them; this reduces the cost of buying larger bottles that you may not care for.

I have had to try different kinds of juice as well. I have tried some flavors that I have no idea how they came to the conclusion that the taste is anywhere near what they call it. It tasted nowhere near what it was called or supposed to taste like. I tried a juice that was supposed to be like Jolly Rancher Grape and I have no idea who came up with that one! Definitely not Grape! I would guess that it depends on the one vaping it and how it tastes to them. Not every flavor is meant for everyone. Some of it could be vapers tongue too.

The same liquid can taste different depending on what you've eaten or drank, what time of the day it is or any number of other variables. I also find flavour diminishes if I stock with the same liquid for too long. My favourite liquid for a long time was a sweet tobacco flavour but I mainly treated the sweet and the rest of the flavour tasted nothing like tobacco. When I first put it in my davide all I could taste was tobacco and I didn't like it. After using other flavours I went back and it tastes better in the davide than it did in my old nova. No tobacco flavour at all lol.

I'm now about two months from smoking my last cigarette, and my taste buds may not have recovered. My step son keeps asking me, "Does everything taste a lot better now?" And I tell him, "Well, to tell the truth, things taste pretty much the way they've always tasted. Good, but not any different."

Also, that seems to go for my sense of smell. I'm retired and not around smokers, like at work, etc. Today my niece came by and smoked a cigarette right next to me. I could smell the cigarette, but it didn't smell awful - just like a cigarette. Also, it did not in any way make me want to light up.

I like almost all of the juices I've bought, so maybe it's a good thing about my taste buds not being so discerning.:) Mostly, there is only one distinct taste in each one though, no nuances that I can detect. Cinnamon Roll tastes like cinnamon, a mixed berry flavor tastes like, well, berries. I just got one called Extreme Ice and it tastes like a strong spearmint.

All of these are quite pleasant, and if that's as good as it gets, it's fine with me.

Rather comical whether or not you wanted it to be that way. I hear you and feel you and ditto. I haven't found a flavor I like yet, or should I say love. I smoked 2 packs a day for 35 years and quit cold turkey. If it were not for vaping blah blah blah. My smokes were regular tobacco but my vape MUST be menthol, can't imagine why. I tried may flavors, probably 20 or so and haven't had that orgasm that vapers speak of. Until *drum roll* this past weekend at the local flea market. A fella gave me some free cinna-bun and wow-zah wow-zah wow-zah. The cinnamon, the cake, the icing and the butter - the butter is what really freaked me out. I will hunt that boy down this coming weekend to get more of his juice as I am not totally satisfied with my 20 or so "starters".
I must say this, do not throw your un-liked flavors out. They change, and so do you. I''m still sitting on some strawberry that gags me but I added it to a menthol that was much too strong with a bitter soapy aftertaste and it worked.
You will also mix your juice's and create your own buffet. Also, people here speak of steeping. Possibly and most probable.
I believe, the young man I met at the flea market, is going to be my go to guy. He is younger (than me anyway), he mixes all his own stuff and was most pleasant to deal with. He added something sweet to my gross menthol that I was actively vapeing at the time, and he took his personal stash and mixed up a free bottle for me. I found the holy grail of juice that day. The flavor on inhale and the flavor on exhale and the aftermath of butter lingering like a kiss I had when I was - - - - - sorry - wrong forum.
At first when I read some of the things that you speak of, I thought, ummm, OCD, but now I am them.
Vaping, in the beginning, also seems to go fast, as in your starter kit, within days a new battery, a bigger battery, a better tank, more shiny things, more vapor or more throat hit, more stores, more internet shopping, more juices more more more. Actually, it becomes a hobby, and a dang fun one too. Have fun with it - Barb (currently sucking some chocolate vape)

i was very pleasantly surprised with the flavor of "curious jorge" from The Standard eliquid
YES, menthol !!
I smoked tobacco for 35 years but I MUST vape menthol most of the day.
Also, the juices with the funny names, I'm afraid of until someone explains the detail of the flavor too me.
ie. "Curious jorge" would taste like - a ? wet sneaker ? lol

I had horrible vaper's tongue shortly after I started vaping, and I hadn't had a cigarette in over a decade. I cannot taste anything very well in most cartos (with the exception of the Sophia) or clearos like the mini Protanks. When I go to a tasting bar now I bring my dripper and ask if they will let me drip the samples. If I try to use the testers, nothing tastes right and I have made several regrettable purchases based on what I thought I could taste before I learned better.

When I started dripping that all changed - for example Five Pawns Gambit actually does give me the apple pie on the inhale and pie crust on the exhale. The Aspire Nautilus (clearo), AGA-T2 (genesis-type atty) and Sophia (rebuildable carto) work well for me too but not as well as dripping.

So it might not be your taste buds, it could be your equipment. :) That's what solved it for me. Good luck!

What surprised me most was finding that the flavor I liked best, that reminded me most of my cigarettes, actually does have a very mild sweetness to it, along with the dry, bitter, and savory notes. I never tasted that sweetness in the actual cigarettes of course, because the bitterness of the burning just overpowered it -- after I'd been vaping regularly for a while, had cut down to almost no smoking and was ready to throw in the towel completely on smoking, the cigarettes were so bitter, that was all I could really taste of them. I'd come in from smoking and vape up a cloud just to get rid of that nasty bitter taste, was the only way I realized that the taste i liked actually was just mildly sweet. Weird.
