The board is going nuts! I can't post in a lot of threads or start threads in some forums. So lets see if I can post here.

In response to the Thanksgiving thread.
Is it possible for your wife to make the trip on her own? She can leave you a nice dinner and bring back lots of leftovers in a day or two.! You can rest up and maybe catch up on some TV. She can relax with the family without worrying about you being uncomfortable or in a hurry to leave.
Mike sometimes feels bad..with a bad back and can't go for a trip down to Tampa with me. It's only a 200 mile round trip drive, but as we have lots to do when we are there..it's hard on him. I make the trip on my own and stay with my kids overnight.

Hey it's nice to find this group. I can't post a new thread so I'm replying to this one. I vaped for a few months a while back (long while) and have just ordered some "stuff" to get my stash back up and running again. I'm finally going to give up the analogs completely.

A little about me - I live in Richmond, VA with my husband of 33 years, three dogs, 5 computers (at last count), one RV and a monster truck to pull it with, plus assorted other around-town vehicles. I am an online professor and teach classes in Criminal Justice, English, Writing and Communications.

It's a good thing I work from home because I have several chronic diseases, including diabetes (T2, just diagnosed last year) and a few joint, muscle, and soft tissue diseases that cause ongoing pain, degeneration, and so forth.

Just wanted to say hi to everyone!!

Welcome Sherlock! I love the state of Virginia! It's just beautiful and the people are very nice. My ex inlaws are near Lynchburg.

I took criminology when I was studying to become a police officer. I had a great prof. I had to take seveal classes including Psych and sociology,
The way I saw it was "Psych: your mother made you do it Soc: society made you do it and Police..we don't care..you are getting locked up!:D
My Prof didn't quite see it my way but he laughed anyway.

I have type 2 diabetes and last year had to stat injecting insulin..thank goodness it wasn't as bad as I feared! Now I feel much better. As long as you keep your self in check as far as eatting goes, you should do well. Just don't buy into the whole spartan eatting garbage. You need a bit of everything to stay healthy...even a treat now and then!

vaping should help you stay on track..vaping doesn't raise blood sugar or blood pressue. the plus is it subs for treats!:)

Post whatever you like and be sure to check out the Women's Room here at ECF! (just click on my link below)

Hey Mary Kay -- Thanks for the welcome! It's a small world sometimes :) I've never done police work -- all my experience has been through private security and asset protection (loss prevention). That, along with a grad degree in CJ is perfect for teaching the lower level intro classes. And I love those because mostly the students are just beginning to explore CJ careers (many planning police or correctional work) and they're so excited about the classes!

I've had DB T2 for exactly a year -- well been diagnosed. I'm sure I had it long before that because I'd been taking prednisone for over a year for chronic joint/soft tissue inflammation problems. That (they say) is what kicked it off to the tune of an A1c last year at this time around 12. YIKES. Now it's under 6. The metformin didn't work for me much until I added salsalate (anti-inflammatory) and then started eating sourdough bread a couple of times a day and then started drinking tea and water with lemon (not bottled lemon juice but packaged lemon crystals). VOILA! Near perfect non-DB blood sugar almost all the time (unless I eat something stupid like cake and ice cream -- which a few bites is okay now but not the whole thing!).

Probably TMI but it's nice to find somebody with similar interests. How long did you work on the police force? You can drop me an email if you like -- professorsherlock at gmail

That was the bad thing..I never worked on the force..after almost two years of study I took the test and passed with flying colors..then went up for a job. The Police Capt. said he didn't need anymore women or Mexicans on the force! To say I was shocked is an understatement!
I told him I was of Spanish heritage..that is my gradparents were from Spain..all 4 of them. I was adopted and raised in Florida. (Hubby and I were in Cheyenne at the time..he is retired Air Force). He said..same thing. I said different continent. He said you will never get back up..I will leave you hanging, you'll get shot or quit. Then he said you can report this converstion to anyone you like and I will deny everything. I caled him an ignorant racist and left.
My score was 13th out of 300 people tested and the only woman to test above 100.
We were transfered back to Fl. in the next few months but I was too short for the Tampa P.D.and Sherrifs dept. (that has since changed)
Oh well, that seems like a lifetime ago. It was the only time I have ever been discrimanted against. It was terrible!

I am glad to hear you are under control! It sure is hard to deal with when other ailments are part of the package. I have High blood pressure (part of being latin) But the worst part was smoking. Now that that is gone, everything else is falling into place.

I was losing weight with vaping..but when my mom became ill and hospitalized all my dieting went south. Now I have to get rid of the 10lbs I gained. It drives my blood test numbers up!

I walk a mile or so a day..I guess I need to up that. I also need to vape more at nite and eat less! LOL Since my hubby retired and is under foot all the time we eat and sleep at the oddest hours.

Does your profession allow for much walking? Or is your muscle disorder bad enough to keep you in?

Right now in Va. it must be a bit chilly! Oh and my husband and I are coming up on our 34th! (and he is not dead yet!):D
