What do you tend to use? Cartos?

Well, you certainly wouldn't want to use a medical hypodermic syringe anyway. Way too dangerous. And I think they are a controlled item with a prescription required.

A blunt syringe of 18 to 20 gauge would be better.

I rarely use a drip tip. When I do its just to take a few drags to "unflood" a flooded atomizer. But, to me, the flavor and vapor are not affected by the larger hole.

How can I do it without a syringe? Once I pull the caps out the hole is so small.

Make sure you take all the caps out. Some cartos, like the CE2's have two caps in them. The innermost cap usually needs to be pried out. A small screwdriver works great.
