First I have to admit that I have only been using my Joye 510 for about a month. First thing, I have no other experience with vaping, this is my first go at it. I WAS a two pack a day smoker.. down to less than a pack, closer to 10 analogs a day.. and yesterday and today making a real effort to go no analogs.

1. The 510 battery is horrible, I can kill it no problem in an hour. I find that the throat hit can be kinda harsh.. but the mouth hit isn't. I feel like I get a good amount of vapor, but I don't feel it in my mouth.. maybe I will just get used to that.

2. I have to constantly top off the carts.. couple of drops. If I don't do this, after a few strong hits, I get a burned taste from the cartridge foam being dry? This makes vaping in the car kinda tough.. don't want to wreck trying to drip a couple drops into the cart.

3. Battery gets super hot.

Now, for the most part I am ok with this. I would look to know if anyone enjoys there M401-402-403 better than the joye?

I really don't want to move to something large, the psychological effect of hitting something that resembles a real analog is important to me.. atleast right now.

Any suggestions? Or should I just try getting a battery mod that will use the 510 atomizers? Any good suggestions on those?

Thanks

Get a Chuck or other mod. Keep the 510 atty's. Replace ur filler with Eheim round filters from ur locall petstore. Its more porous and allows the juice to wick a TON better. I use a Little Chuck 510 with Eheim filter (white round filters, cut to size but not stuffed tight, a perfect cut piece for the cart) and thats solved ALL my issues. :) Hope I helped.

A mod keeps the voltage higher for longer, kinda like that 1st puff from a fresh charged battery, but for hours. That heats up better, wicking the juice more evenly and fully. You will notice a world of difference instantly...

Your description pretty much sums up the 510. I would try a DSE-901. It's just a great all around e-cigarette.

In my opinion, it is not the 510, it is the carts and the juice combination.
Since I have gone to the Blue Foam Mod, it has made all the difference in the world because I was experiencing some of the challenges you mentioned. Now the juice flows easily, I can fill up the cart and it lasts a long time, and the flavor is perfect. Something about that white filler stuff that comes standard in the carts wasn't working for me.
It is also a process of trying different things out to see what works for YOU. As one person on this forum has stated..."think outside the pack".
Good luck in your quest for the perfect vape.

Standard battery life on the 510 can be short.. especially if you are chain-vaping.. which most new vapors' tend to do. If this continues to be a problem, you might want to consider the "Mega" battery. But frankly, changing a battery takes seconds.. abut the same amount of time that you used to spend pulling out an analog and lighting it.

As far as the throat hit is concerned.. and the harshness.... that is largely controlled by the liquid that you are using. In time you will probably find your favorites, regardless of what PV you are using.

2. I have to constantly top off the carts.. couple of drops. If I don't do this, after a few strong hits, I get a burned taste from the cartridge foam being dry? This makes vaping in the car kinda tough.. don't want to wreck trying to drip a couple drops into the cart.

You are suffering through the problem of the stock cart filler. Same exact problem that you will have with most of the PVs. Look into one of the alternate fillers or mods and your problem will be solved. Many of us can vape a cartridge completely dry these days.

3. Battery gets super hot.

The BATTERY shouldn't get hot at all. The atomizer will get warm or hot, but not the battery. If your battery is getting hot, something is terribly wrong and you should quit using that battery immediately!

Hi crash,

I was looking at Eheim filters, and they have ones labeled "fine" and "coarse". Which one do you recommend?

Have you read the 510 guide yet? (Check out the link in my signature.) Be sure you've tried all of the tips before giving up on your 510 investment.

Rather than see you start all over with another model, Scottbee hit on a couple of points.

What brand liquid are you using? I recommend Nhaler High Voltage or one of his other brands, if you need higher nicotine.

What is the nicotine level? That can affect throat hit and frequency of use. You may need a higher level, so you're not going through so many batteries and overheating the atty.

How many batteries do you have? Having enough on hand and charging can alleviate the frustration of dying batteries.

Do you have a PCC or multiple charger?

Do you own a USB passthrough? I recommend getting one, along with a USB car adapter for it.

What cart filler are you using?

I highly suggest using one of these cart modifications:

3. Battery gets super hot.

1. Get a PCC (personal charging case) and a good supply of regular length batteries. This will keep you supplied when you're away from a charger.

2. See Crashtestjeep's recommendation for better filler material. Personally, I use the Marineland HOT filter sleeve material, type U. This is aquarium filter material, available at pet shops. I wash and rinse it thoroughly before use and cut the material to 1.25X width of the cartridge inside diameter. Will last for about a week before needing washing or replacement.

3. It's not normal for the batteries to get hot. Are you sure it's not the heat from the atomizer? 510 atomizers run hot if you hit them frequently.

As far as "mouth hit," I've found that high-nicotine juice gives me that. I'm using Tasty Vapor 48mg Tobacco cut to about 42mg strength using their Doubler liquid. You just can't vape that strong of a juice constantly, though.

I too got a little disenchanted with my 510s after the new wore off. As far as the battery getting hot I found if I vaped it long enough with out latting it cool down my attys would get realy hot and the heat would transfer to the top of the battery making it almost as hot as the atty and traveling towards the led end of the battery. Which on a battery isnt a real good thing as heat has a detrimental effect on most of them.

I went back to the first PV Iever bought the J118 and ordered two extra batteries and atomizers for it from Shawn at lite cig. they ae kind of hard to get right now in a starter kit.
There are manual batteries for it now but my auto batteries are working just fine for me.They last 2-3 hrs. depending on how I vape when using it. The only thing is the battery in a Pcc needs to be unscrewed to keep it from making contact and draining the PCC battery after it completes the charge cycle.
It has longer battery life and wicks the cart down to the bottom. But you can still outvape the cart if you chain vape it too much. I've just switched to the M201 pen style and it seems to have all of the advantages of the 118 + even longer battery life4 hrs. avg for me and a cart that holds around 1ML of juice.
Also it doesn't leak like I've heard complaints of the DSE 801 doing.
The J118 can be found here Smokeless Cigarettes | Electronic Smoking Device | Electronic Cigarette - Mini J118mm Electronic
And in the suppliers forum is an ecf members offer for an M201 with two attys batteries and charger.(Normally comes with two batteries and one atty) It only comes in white though. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...pen-style-electroinic-cigarettes-31-95-a.html
But it mostly comes down to what you are looking for in a PV this is just what has worked for Me.

I am using 24mg Mrlbro from Litecigusa. I have two batteries, and a PCC. I have noticed that I am hitting it so much, that I drain the battery well before the next one is charged. It seems like if the batteries don't have a full charge that the vapor production just doesn't do it. But boy, when they are charged and the device has not been used say for an hour, then it's totally different.

I have to admit,... when I was gradually cutting back on regular smokes this was working great. Now that I have tried to cut them out.. my body is needing much more vapor, throat hit, punch. Whatever you want to call it! :) ( and nicotine )... I am a two pack a day smoker without the e-cig.

I will read your guide, and try the tips before spending more money. Oh, and what type of filler is best for the cartridges? I read that using a filter from the pet store works well, is there a specific model/type that I use?

Thanks ( oh, yes... my atomizers get super hot.. and that is transfering the heat to the battery... but I have to admit.. I am really vaping like crazy! )

I'm a convert from almost 3 packs a day... and I almost chain-vape. I constantly have a Mega battery on the thing, one in the charger, and a few of the standard batteries floating around.

But, I will say this..... a properly functioning atomizer will run warm to hot.... but not super hot. The liquid and the physics of vaporization actually helps to keep them cool. If yours is getting "super hot", then I'd surmise that something is wrong.

And while too much or too little liquid will cause them to run hot.... often it is actually the "too much". Yes.. I realize that's counter-intuitive!

Also... if your atty has been overheated, there is an internal plastic part that can get damaged.. that makes them run even hotter. It's a low-level chain-reaction. There is no way to easily repair that plastic part. You might want to consider a new atty or two.

I don't know why there isn't any love on the boards for the M401 units. I have several different models and the 510 is good but I use my M401 everyday! With the passthrough, I just vape all day long.

The older M401 atomizers used to be a pain because they were super sensitive but I haven't had any problems with any of my new atomizers and I feel like I get the strongest hit with the M401. They're also nicer looking and a bit slimmer than the 510. I got my M401 from FreshSmoking and now I'm eyeing their M201s. The M-series are just great, give them a try.
