OK, sorry I can't figure out the picture thing to show you, but ...

My Mutation X Atty.

Had a 0.7 dual horizontal coil in it and it hit like a truck.

Got the "brilliant" idea to rebuild it using a diagonal coil in line with the airhole matrix. Placed the negative wire tail in the post hole, and the positive tail under the positive screw well above the hole for the wires. Miscounted my wraps so I ended up with a 1.0 ohm build.

at first, it hit like a chevy malibu, definitely not a truck, after a few days, it hits like a vespa.

is it most likely my wicking, or what?

Well its very hard to say what you did wrong without any further details. Just rip it all out, give it a rinse & dry and start over.
Try to rebuild the original horizontal dual coil. Watch a few YouTube's and keep building. Rome wasn't build in one day nor is the perfect setup.

1 good thing; kanthal and cotton come cheap.

I have had 0.3 - 0.2 ohm builds with 24 gauge Kanthal in my Mutation X with the appropriate batteries of course. 1.0 - 0.7 ohms is not what this puppy was designed for, it's a cloud chasing rda. If you restrict the air flow you will likely get a relatively decent vape at lower power, but there are much better RDAs for flavor production.

I suspect the change in vape performance is due to your coil getting gunked up over time. I usually use VG thinned a bit with distilled water and a small amount of clean 'burning' flavoring that doesn't gunk the coils much at all.

Hope this helps a bit :)

try it on a 50w device.

also, the screws can back out. I agree with Ryedan though...a 1 ohm build in a Mutation is like a .2 in a Kayfun...it might work, but it angers the Gods.

I'll give it a shot, ... then rebuilding it. Normally I'm running it on a Stingray X clone, but I'll try it on my IPV.

I don't want to anger the Gods, especially not those Olympians. When they get mad they get all drunk and run around the countryside knocking everyone up.

It was the 1.0 ohm build at fault.

When I put it on my IPV and juiced it with 22.2 watts, I got it to hit like a Ford Ranger. Not a Terex Titan, but still a truck.

I will have to pay better attention to my wrap counts so this doesn't happen again, as I prefer to vape this on my Stingray X, it looks so much better on that.

I honestly hated this RDA it's holes are size of a pin ..... so even though it has 18 the hole may be 3/64 maybe.

Try building a dual coil in the .4 to .6 range and it should hit good. If you are just wanting a throat hit change the juice you have in there to high PG and higher nicotine then it will be nice and harsh.
