If I vape much above 4.5 the roof of my mouth gets irritated and burnt feeling, and if I get juice in my mouth (or taste test a drop of juice) I'll get sore bumps on my tongue.

Drink lost of water, vaping does dehydrate causing headaches, dry mouth among others.
I DIY too but there have been some very sweet folks here that send me things to try from time to time
