Hello. First post for me. A little background… I had been smoking analogs for 30 years at times being a pack a day Camel straight smoker, a 2 pack a day Marlboro Red smoker and for the last few years a 3-6 cigarette/day smoker of American Spirit Yellows. I have tried to give up analogs several times; cold turkey, the patch, hypnosis, acupuncture, Zyban, etc. Nothing ever worked for more than a few weeks and even during that time all I could think about was how much I missed dragging on a cigarette. I was convinced that I would be a life-long smoker.

I have been vaping for two weeks now and am really pleased with the experience so far. I have not once craved an analog and have a totally different outlook about whether or not I will be successful in avoiding smoking a cigarette ever again. I really like being able to run and play hockey without feeling winded before my teammates and I don’t miss smelling like an ashtray. Living in Colorado and with a non-smoking, athletic wife I have always hated power smoking on the back porch in 12° weather. Now, I can get my nic fix in the warmth and comfort of my living room.

I started out like most others seem to, by buying two Joye 510 starter kits that came with e-juice called Ameri-Blend High. To me, that juice was foul tasting and did not have the taste of an analog. When I purchased the kits I also ordered an array of sample size juices; tobacco sampler, soda sampler, fruit sampler, sweet sampler, etc. So far I really like the strong, sweet flavors; caramel, coffee, vanilla, orange creamsicle, maple syrup. I’ve reordered a few flavors and added new samples with both orders. Honestly, I can’t imagine enjoying the taste of an analog or an analog flavored juice but I’ll keep an open mind if I get a good recommendation for something that tasted like a rich, sweet pipe tobacco.

Now, I think I’m ready to step up on the equipment front. With my last juice order I added some GoodProphets Soft Tip 510 Cartomizers that meter out to 2.7 Ohms and if I draw slowly produce a good amount of vapor with decent flavor. I like the additional capacity over the standard 510 Cartridge/Atomizer configuration. Based on this chart http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/469/wattage.png I know that the wattage with the cartomizer is significantly lower than the “stock” set-up and that is probably why I need to take longer and slower draws. Also with these cartomizers my battery lasts me about half as long since I’m holding the button down for a greater duration each time I inhale.

I’d like to find a system that will allow me to vape comfortably all day long without having to fiddle around with parts or settings and without get e-juice all over my hands, my car and my clothes. I’m looking for reliability and convenience without having to spend a lot of time and money trying multiple solutions along the way. As much as I like “gear” I don’t want or need to have a list of 10 PVs in my signature.

So, now I’m doing research on various Tube Mods and higher capacity Tank systems; Great Lakes Vapor, ProVari, Golden Greek (beautiful and expensive), Apex Alpha, GG-USR (again, beautiful and $$$), MAP-Tank, Liquinator, etc. The choices are dizzying – Voltage, battery type, mechanical vs. circuit board, warranty, cost, on and on…

I’ll keep combing the forums, reading reviews and watching youtube videos til I decide how best to part with my hard earned cash. Once I have enough posts I’ll probably start asking questions on other sections of the forum and try to weigh the opinions of people I’ve never met. My goal is to make a big step forward that will satisfy me for some time to come.

Thanks for reading and thanks for posting. The ECF is an amazing, albeit confusing, resource that has been really helpful to me thus far.

I think the E-Power 14650 is a great PV to start with. Its an eGo type mod that is 3.7V and has a 510 connection. Many people like the eGo, and it is a great PV, but it is a 3.4V. If you like using LR attys/cartos, or are planning on using them, I would go with a 3.7V. LR puts alot of stress on eGo batteries. Many people will say that they do it and dont have any problems, but I also know prob just as many people that have ruined their batteries because of it. It will fry the mosfet if your not careful. 3.7V PVs will handle the LR attys/cartos better and will give you a nice variety of things you can use with it.

As far as which one to get, thats up to you. I recommend the Riva, kGo, or E-Power. All are great PVs and will give you what your looking for. Their all have 510 connections and manual batteries. The Riva is very popular and affordable. Liberty Flights has a good deal for the Riva. The kGo is nice and has great battery life. (1100mah). The E-Power also has great battery life and is very versitle.
My personal preference is the E-Power. I use a 14650 daily and love it. Everything on the E-Power is replaceable so it really keeps costs down. Its also the only one out of the ones I listed that uses non-proprietary batteries. E-Power batteries cost $4 compared to eGo/kGo/Riva batteries that cost $14-20. The fact that the batteries are so cheap and everything is replaceable is one of the big things that made me lean toward the E-Power. One the eGo/kGo/Rivas the battery and switch is all one piece. With the E-Power its 3 seperate pieces. (Tube, battery, switch). So with a Riva/kGo/eGo if you fry your switch or your battery dies, you have to replace the entire thing. Even if the battery is fine and the switch just fried, the whole thing has to be replaced. With the E-Power, everything can be bought seperately. If you need a new battery, you can buy just the battery. If your switch stops working, you buy just a switch, and can continue using your existing tube and battery. So to me that was a big plus because it really helps with keeping maintanance costs down. Plus, I havent found a LR carto that the E-Power hasnt been able to handle yet. The E-Power is very easy to use which makes it a good starter kit, but Ive also found that because it is a 3.7V it has enough power to satisfy many people so they wont need to upgrade later.

Read this about the E-Power : http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ne-considering-buying-e-power-14650-read.html

This will give you some info why you might like the E-Power more than an eGo/kGo/Riva.

It will also tell you where to get it to get a really good deal. I talked about it briefly in the previous post, but I found that Crystal Clear Vaping has the best bang for your buck. Im on a college student budget so thats important to me.

If you get it from CCV, youll get a FREE 5 pack of 'Ressuector' Cartomizers, FREE 30ml juice ofyour choice, and FREE shipping.
Plus put in "ecf5off" and youll get 5% off the order. Ifyou add it up your getting over $25 worth of free stuff.

Welcome and congrats on getting off analogs! I can tell you about GLV, I just got a super mini 3.7v, I love it. For those that want a bigger GLV they are available and I would recommend them. I used KR808's before and I am so glad I picked up the GLV super mini as my upgrade. I use cartos with mine. bnrk

Welcome jcfitz
I am fairly new also and I am vary happy with my Provari. I would suggest a variable voltage. I find that my tastes are changing all the time. With the vv it can change with you. They make some very inexpensive vv boxmods that work just great. I figure that juice, atomizers, cartomizers, and tanks are all evolving and getting better, and a vv can handle the changes in you and the new technology coming out.

If you are looking for simplicity and reliability there are just 3 letters you need to know....R-E-O. Sorry if I sound like an ad campaign. I'm very happy with my Reo Grand. It is the perfect grab and go PV. 18650 battery and a 6ml bottle of juice, awesome. You can use it at 6v and 5v also with different batteries. Check out the Reos Mods subforum for more info.

Variable voltage (VV) mods are great, but they do cost more money than your standard PV. If you are looking for a cheaper way to enjoy similar features (though not as handy) you can try a cheaper mod like the RoughStack or something similar. You can easily achieve different voltages by using different batteries. It seems like a hassle but it's really not. The only downside is you wouldn't be able to find your "sweet spot" like you could easily do, with say, a Provari. There are box mods as well that are VV and pretty inexpensive, but they are not as aesthetically pleasing and less durable (if these two options don't bother you then you may want to look into a VV box mod!) It really comes down to trial and error. I have yet to find a person that found their perfect device early on. It takes practice, but you will eventually find a setup that fits all your needs.

Heyas jcfitz7,

For all day vaping with no mid day refilling and no leakage, you might look at some of the bigger cartos. They're available up to 3.5ml or even 5ml capacity. Most that I've seen are DCC's though, so you'd have to move up to a bigger battery than a slim 510.

I like the 1.7Ω single coil xl cartos from smok tech on a 3.7v pv. Great vapor and taste with only a 4-5 second draw for me. But I usually have to top off a couple times a day. I'm not fond of dual coils at 3.7v, not enough oomph for my taste, but the big capacity dual coils are great on a vv mod.
