(IMO) ProVari by definition attracts all types of people. Some out of curiosity; some to troll.

I have to agree with this 100%. If we drop the name because we want to go in a new direction, fine. If we change it because we want to attract new members, fine.
I will not change for trolls. If this is the reason, I am squarely against it. I don't fear trolls. Trolls will come to anything ProVari no matter what name we pick. That is precisely what The ProVarinati are for, is it not so? We should not change who we are for them.
Ok, purely selfish question...all you guys that will be the mods...does that mean you can't partake in fun/make funny comments anymore, chit chat or be more social??? That would suck for the entire group.
I care about our new name, but care more that all you guys won't be able to continue the sarcastic, hilarious comments.

I think it will mean an adjustment in our behavior, but not a drastic one. If I can't have any fun, I won't do it. But I think I can walk that line and do the job.
Honestly, I don't like the thought of being responsible for other people...I get enough of that in the RW. And I think I am at my best running around pushing the limits of the rules...not enforcing them. Sigh.
But doing this is a worthwhile cause.

That was my worry more than the name. We're taking our top ProVari peeps, most witty ones and moving them to a diff role. Will it "kill" the room so to speak. But I get we need to get this done and I'm sure we'll manage. Just kinda sucks in some ways.
I personally think you, Bad and Ocelot should be the moderators. The three of you have helped people so much. I know for myself that the three of you have made this journey for me so much better. I love hearing what yall have to say daily on here.

It's not like that. We will just be reminding people of the ECF rules, which I do anyway. In this we have the advantage of knowing what a thread is about, rather than a regular mod coming in cold and locking a thread without being aware of the context.

Ok very good. That was truly my only concern versus the name or moving to Social Forum. Alls good, carry on...
I know I was nominated earlier for a mod position. I didn't say a whole lot then, but I'll bring it up now that I've had a night to sleep on it. I've been a forum moderator before, and I'm not interested in the job. It's a lot of hard work and time invested that most people don't see. I don't have the time to spare that such a duty would require. Someday, when I'm retired and it's a choice between forum moderation and golf, I might volunteer to be a mod.
In the 70s, I worked for a major corporation where every employee had a color-coordinated ashtray provided (carpet colors and accessories on each floor were a different color) in their cubicle. Air was blue with smoke.
A Moderated social group, from what I can understand, means the Owner approves of who is allowed into the group.
A Public social group is simply like where we are now. Someone stumbles across the place and doesn't have to ask permission to join.
It is not real clear in any of the explanations I can find.

Mods can still have fun, it's just that they are charged with the responsibility to act when they see TOS infractions. It's not like that. Also, as you probably already know, you will be able to edit the offending posts that could cause problems with TOS.
I cannot tell you how odd I feel when I see my name next to those two when you group us together like that. It is only because they have taught me so much that people group me with them. I try to pass along what I have been taught by them (and countless others) so that I can repay their kindness to me.
(I do know more about rebuilding than both of those carto-heads put together, though.)

No, I do not. I tried to like them. Then I found RBA/RDA. For me, the difference is so dramatic, I will never go back.
