Wow. That's the first question I get when I show people my cool Joye eGo. The easiest answer is when hell freezes over, or when you no longer enjoy your 6packs, or when you toss out your Mr. coffee maker. sigh.

I found the only people who are interested are smokers. Ex smokers think it is stupid. Non smokers think you have a oral fixation problem.

I need better ammunition. please.

The problem isn't your ammunition. It's the people you're dealing with.

Ex-smokers tend to take it as a point of pride that they quit the way they did, especially the ones who did it cold turkey. Seeing you engage in something that is to all appearances still smoking makes it look to them that you aren't really trying to quit, but are instead fooling yourself into thinking it's helping you quit. And if you aren't trying to quit and you tell them that then they can't understand what the point is, especially if you've moved off of nicotine.

Non-smokers don't understand smoking to begin with. Trying to get them to understand something that is kinda smoking, but not ... well, that just baffles the crap out of them. They're right about one thing though: It is an oral fixation. It's a psychotropic addiction separate from nicotine. But that's a strawman argument anyway; whether it's an oral fixation or not makes no difference. It is a pleasurable activity no different from having a beer or going for a jog or whatever -- excepting of course that nic-free liquid has no deleterious effects on the body, and even nicotine-based stuff isn't nearly as bad as cigarettes, likely on par with coffee and caffeine consumption, if more addictive. (The effects are similar.)

That's really all there is to it. You enjoy it, so you do it, and it's a hell of a lot better for you than tobacco.

How long will I HAVE to use it? Not a minute longer than I WANT to use it.

I haven't actually received that question yet.
Ex-smokers seem to think it's silly, like "why don't you just quit, like I did"
NON-smokers tend to see no difference between smoking and vaping, "well, you're still smoking"

I got that today from an ex-smoker "You didn't really quit." Then he went on about how he DID quit. This is a good friend so I conceded that it was an alternative to smoking and that I had my eyes wide shut.

it is an alternative to smoking, because some1 chooses to step down on the nic is a personal choice. 1 i don't think i'll make at that.

Non-smokers and ex-smokers are a lost cause anyway. Analog smokers who are against it are just hurting themselves. If they want to close their mind and burn their lungs, let 'em!

ETA: BTW, I think it's simply hilarious that smoking tobacco treated with thousands of chemicals, including poisons and carcinogens, wrapped in paper, is somehow more acceptable than smoking the e-cig.

I guess we just have to accept that some are never going to be supportive of what we are doing to try to improve our health. Of the choices available, gum, lozenges, patches or the chantex type pills, I've chosen something where I can control the amount of nicotine that makes me comfotable.. and that keeps me from being a real pain in the backside. My dad who quit cold turkey over 10 years ago supports me while my brother thinks it's just a crutch. We can't please everyone so we may as well please ourselves :) the foggy1

My Dad said this word for word. I'm with you, it kind of caught my off guard.

Now I might say...

"Now how long will you have to use that thing?"
"I don't know… how long do you plan to continue drinking coffee in the morning?"

I took my new eGo to my 8-ball league at my local watering hole last night, and received the same response from many people. The smokers were definitely intrigued! The non-smokers, or as some had previously stated above - those who had quit cold turkey, seemed completely confused. It may be that because vaping does LOOK so much like smoking, people just can't wrap their heads around the concept. I went so far last night as to explain how the myriad of chemicals that are released due to the combustion in traditional tobacco smoking are completely lacking in the vapor that is inhaled when vaping...

The most interesting response that was had last nite was from one gentleman - "Now this is MY E-cig..." and then he busted out his glass pipe w/ some nice bud...

Cheers.

Ex-smokers didn't quit because they wanted to in most cases. They quit because they wanted to see their grandkids grow up, receive their retirement and be healthy enough to enjoy it, because they were tired of coughing, or any other reason for not smoking.

Many ex-smokers really didn't want to quit and they are jealous that we are able to have the look and feel, and satisfaction of a replacement activity that allows us to keep smoking and not experience the symptoms of tobacco smoking. I think they would like to try it in some cases, but have this feeling that if they do, they are back in the addiction ring, which, to some extent is true. We vapers are still addicted to nicotine.

I had a boss one time who had the reputation for hating smoking, smokers, and anything to do with it. I was told by others when he took over management of our team, that we wouldn't get along, since I smoked. What actually happened was that he recognized my skills and ended up promoting me to technical specialist and group leader. We would have to visit accounts together and usually rode in his non-smoking vehicle. I would smoke on the way to the car and on the way into a building, not in his car. He admitted to me once that, "Most of the time cigarettes stink, but once in a while I get a whiff and want one so bad that I could eat a pack of them!" His issues were based around the fact that he never really wanted to give it up but did it for his health.
