I have a few of Nicoticket's business cards I carry in my purse, and I just happened to leave one beside my laptop. This morning I looked at it and noticed Clark had an MS and a PLMHP behind his name. I never noticed this before.

This means he's really smart and holds a high licensure status for working in the mental health field in NE.

I had to smirk because he has great patience and he's really good at customer service.

He went from Mental Health Practice to juice making. Now that's a story in itself.

And now I know how he can deal with all of our crazy butts. And it also explains why he's a little crazy himself. Ha!

Just a fun fact for the day.

True story - I am a Master's level shrink. Clinical Counselors (like me) have a tendency to focus on empirically supported talk therapy. The next level, the PhD level Psychologists, do the same thing (often with less skill than their Master's Level Counterparts), BUT - they have access to extremely useful psychometric testing devices that the Master's Level Clinicians aren't allowed to touch. Above them are the Psychiatrists - Medical Doctors who rarely engage in talk therapy... they generally write scripts. If the whole "system" works like it was intended - you go see a Masters level clinician like myself for a baseline evaluation. If I have trouble with the diagnosis, I generally refer to a psychologist for testing, or to a psychiatrist for meds. I'm not a huge meds guy, truthfully - getting the meds "dialed in" is almost as painful as the disorders themselves (side effects). Medication too often "covers up" the real issues and hinders the healing process - therapy is not meant to be easy... done properly, it's one of the most emotionally painful experiences you can have. That said, in some cases talk therapy isn't effective unless the client can be stabilized with medication. It all depends on the etiology of a specific disorder - if the SCIENCE deems the ART of talk therapy to be effective in a specific set of circumstances, then and only then is it appropriate to engage a talk-therapist. Art based in science... the human mind is fascinating.

I miss it sometimes. And yes, it does explain why I am a little crazy. I'd go to therapy myself, but there's no cure for twisted.
