I am sorry, I was just being a wise a** about the video I posted. No disrespect intended, I assure you. You do not deserve a dig at a deceased loved one.

Really, sorry.

DW

DW, I appreciate the apology. I did NOT take any offense at your remark, infact, my dad being deceased wasn't really relevant to my point and probably did not need to be mentioned.

I too, am enjoying the debate.................

My point with the links is that there are good and bad union leaders, just like there are good and bad CEO's

And tell me if you were paid $20,000,000/yr for running a company that you would refuse or give it back?? I certainly wouldn't.

What does that have to do with anything? The instances of union corruption are completely dwarfed by the instances of cooperate corruption.

BTW
the association for union democracy is funded by big business and its purpose is to lobby for anti union legislation and spread misinformation about unions. Congratulations you just became one of their pawn. Next time try thinking for yourself instead of being manipulated by a sham organization.

DW

OMG!!! You cannot be so blinded by the union propogamda that you actually believe what you are spewing!!! You can sit there and try to say that stories of the mob being in the union and running union affairs are anti-union propoganda!!! DumWaldo if you seriously believe the mob has nothing to do with the union then you are totally WITHOUT HOPE!!

As a former union construction worker like DW.... I can tell you that the unions here are struggling, the only really strong union left is the uft
You may be a former union construction worker but I do not think you were ever like me. If you were then you would have refused to give up till your dead lifeless body was shoved into a grave (probably unmarked one in the middle of the woods with some very unfriendly people doing the shoving)

The only thing in this world that comes before my union is my family.

Maybe you weren't paying attention in history class, then. "They" = "you" ... or should ... do you get that?

I full understand what you are saying. For those that don't.

Treece said, replace the word "they" in your sentence with "you".

Turn about is fair play. Do for me and I will do for you.

I can't reply to jibberish and sentence fragments.

I'm sorry for being too abstract for you to understand. My point was that the union's purpose is to represent the worker. Which is to say, for example--and I hope this is concrete enough for you to grasp--that human beings who work every day are entitled to a living wage, safe working conditions, and health care. As opposed to, e.g., an 18-hour work day, child labor, and death from ... say ... black lung.

Hope that's not too much jibberish or sentence fragmentation for you....

Big business is in league with the mob as well. It is just another type of mob they affiliate with. The one that has the power to just change the laws to suit their own needs.

My point is that corruption is not something exclusive to just unions, it is a rampant problem in the entire American workforce. Any time you put together large coffers of money someone will become corrupted.

I am not blind to the bad aspects of the union. I am being stubborn though because so MANY of you are blind to the good parts of the union and how hard WE fight to protect rights and standards that even the non union sectors get to enjoy the benefit of.

It is a FACT, non union salaries are higher in areas where unions are present than in areas where unions are not present.

I don;t expect to see any gratitude but I will NEVER sit by idle and let the unions be badmouthed without offering some comment on how much is owed to the unions that most people are blissfully unaware of.

he means replace the word "they" with the word "you".

What have YOU done for us lately?

You know the way the unions fight all the time to maintain the work standards that set the standard for non union sectors as well.

DW

Yeah, I got that part. I didn't get the "should" part.

And I should be a little easy on the unions. They actually supply me with tons of work. As I said in an earlier reply, I am a self employed construction worker. There is no way union companies can compete with my prices. And I have people like you to thank for it.
Thank You

I am just saying, you moved on an went to start your own business and I can not imagine myself ever giving up on my union.

I might be where you are one day but at this point in my life I just can not imagine it ever happening.

It might just be my take on it but this sounds like the great American businessman with the home depot parking lot workforce.

Nope, just myself six other subcontractors with 11 -25 years experience. We all get our own work by doing great, work and word of mouth advertising.
We aren't spoonfed 40 hrs per week by people we hate so bad that we find the need to go on forums and bash for being corupt and greedy.

My work week is 35 hours and my union constitution advocates a 30 hour work week.

"We hold a reduction of hours for a day's work increases the intelligence and happiness of the laborer, and also increases the demand for labor and the price of a day's work. We advocate the adoption of the Five-Day, Thirty-Hour Work Week and urge all Local Unions to put this into effect as soon as possible."

An intelligent and happy laborer? Unheard of!
