NY Times editorial disses PHE's e-cig findings, touts junk study in JAMA, pushes FDA e-cig ban

NY Times runs yet another editorial advocating FDA's proposed e-cig sales ban to adults (by deceitfully claiming it protects children).

Even worse, they dismissed Public Health England's comprehensive report on the scientific and empirical evidence of e-cigs as "a study", falsely insinuated (throughout the editorial) that e-cigs are gateways to cigarettes, and touted the FDA funded junk study in JAMA.

I would have posted this on the FDA news thread (as that's what it all about), but wanted more folks to see it.

This is the public health arm of the British GOVERNMENT we're talking about here, I hardly think that they'd be publishing this, if there was much room for debate

They can't rebutt all of the facts presented against their dubious position so they ban them outright. This one is especially odious though since it's an editorial which is, afterall, a... ...comment.

I search for fresh ecig news stories most every day. (My favorite comment opportunity is Disqus.) My perception is the most outlandish propaganda stories and opinion peices tend to not have a comment space or it's clumsy and hard to use. There are so-called news sites that don't appear to have even a slight influence of journalistic values and they tend to be quite outrageous. And perhaps you've noticed the Asian, Arab, Indian, etc. news outlets will lie with no shame at all. Newspapers tend to be local. If tobacco excise taxes collapse the biggest funding losers will be medical research/education, and local governments. So guess who are whining the loudest?

We have had the same type of story published down under in the Sydney Morning Herald...........it is the last hurrah for these people I hope.

There will be a study released later this week by a guy called Martin McKee...................ANTZ to the maxx. He is going to try and use more junk statistics against PHE...........I am told they were prepared for this.......I hope so because this is a defining moment for vaping.

If none of that was true the New York Times would love ecigs. Easy money from tobacco corrupts even a great institution like the NY Times. So sad.

Whatever the reason for NYT's attacks on vaping - money, friends, hate, zealotry, incompetence - it's completely unacceptable to repeatedly misinform the public on any issue, let alone one so important.
