Again this is something no one should stand for. Pipe tobacco is flavored and so are cigars. This stuff need to stop.
Fight for your rights. Don't stand still and think everything will be okay. That is the biggest problem today, everyone thinks someone will take care of it for you.
If you don't stand up and fight for what you believe in, then the battle has already been lost.

You said it exactly right!
Much of the BS that happens in this country does so because people let it happen.

I disagree.

Most of the BS that happens in this country does so because money makes it happen. In this case, Constantinidas is looking to fund his re-election campaign, and wants a real feather in his cap he can tout himself as "being effective".

Fighting this jerk is useless; the effective way to counter his campaign is to support an opponent who is willing to fight on our issues.
"Constantinidas wants 14-year-olds to be able to buy cotton-candy flavored nicotine gum, but wants to forbid adults from buying Strawberry cheesecake flavors"

When did New York City stop being a fun place?

CASAA has issued a Call to Action for NYC flavor ban. Unlike our usual Calls to Action, participation is not limited to New York City residents, although we ask that if you are not a resident, you take a moment to explain what interest you have in the city (such as, for example, friends or family live there, you plan on visiting, et cetera).

CASAA: Call to Action: New York City is Considering Banning the Sale of Flavored E-Cigarettes and E-Liquids

I just emailed every member of the NYC council from Brooklyn (except one who does not seem to have an email addie). They all read something like this:

I may live in CA right now but I am Brooklyn born and raised and proud of it! . I smoked cigarettes for more than 40 years and because of the availability of vapor I am a proud non-smoker. NO tar. NO smoke, NO nonsense.

By all means if you feel you need to limit sales of vapor to vapor and tobacco stores, do so. YES, make it a crime to sell to anyone not of legal age. But do NOT tell your constituents that they can drink in any bar in the city, purchase cigarettes at tobacco stores but no, they just aren't smart enough to use flavored vapor to get rid themselves of cigarettes and you must protect them for their own good. As my dad used to say, stop bustin' their chops and leave 'em alone!.

Please don't make me ashamed to call Brooklyn "home".

I visit NYC for vacations and reside in Las Vegas, Nevada. I did my CASAA submission and also called Desk Killer Costa Constantinides's office and left a message. If you guys decide to engage in a lawful demonstration in front of his home in Astoria or anywhere else please take pictures and send me a PM and I'm happy to provide additional "ink".

I think this is an extremely important one to fight, not just for residents of NYC.

Exactly! If one of the largest cities in the world pass this silly law, others will copy like dominoes!

I plan to attend the hearing and if allowed, I will speak. I'm not a NYC resident, but I do work there at times. I am a NY State resident.

Forget cigars and pipe tobacco, look at hookah...
No overwhelming tobacco taste (only certain brands, most the tobacco is very mild to un-tasteable)
Uses VG to help with cloud production
Uses flavorings extremely similar to those in e-liquids (Fumari makes a killer white gummy bear, taste is spot on)
It's basically tobacco soaked in e-liquid :p

The proposed ordinance is at
The New York City Council - File #: Int 0488-2014

But careful anylsis of the proposed ordinance reveals that it would ban the sale of flavored cigalikes, not flavored e-liquid that is sold separately.

None of the definitions for "component", "electronic cigarette" or "flavored electronic cigarette" apply to e-liquid that is sold in separate bottles/packages.

Although the first part of the definition of "constituent" applies to flavorings in e-cigs, the last part of the definition "during the processing, manufacture or packing of the tobacco product or electronic cigarette" specifically exempts e-liquid that is sold in separately.

This reminds me of the NY state laws that bans sales of e-cigarettes to minors, but that doesn't apply to e-liquid (because the bill's author Linda Rosenthal was clueless about e-cigs). Last year, Rosenthal realized her incompetence and offered a bill to amend to the law to also ban the sale of e-liquid to minors.

No matter what your political perspective on this issue is, everyone should be equally horrified by the prospect of important public health policy decisions being made by people who can't be bothered to spend five minutes acquainting themselves with the things they're trying to ban.

If anyone from CASAA is around they can explain the ramifications, and advise on action to take.

I am what would be termed a lifelong smoker. I smoked for 43 years. I began using E-Cigarettes in 2009, my first flavors were tobacco and left me less than satisfied, because flavor after all was very important to me. I continued smoking and ocassionally used the E-Cigarette. In 2010, I became aware that social networks were springing up on the internet for Vaping and people using Electronic Cigarettes. Smoking is a social behavior and has been all along. Even people that would consider themselves to be (non-smokers) have admitted to enjoying a few drags when engaged in socializing. If Nicotine was so very very addictive, those people, would not exist and yet, in my life I know of at least a few dozen people that can smoke in a social setting, yet do not smoke in their actual lives or lifestyles. Nicotine, has not been proven to be as addictive as many politicians, and so-called public health advocates say that it is. I tried in all those 43 years on many separate ocassions, employing every known prescribed quit smoking aid, therapy and approach. I quit a few times, but always missed my smoking, nothing comes near to the actual effects and enjoyment of. In 2010, when I once again tried the Electronic Cigarettes, a plethora of new devices and most important, F L A V O R S, became available to me. I experimented with flavors and was almost instantly transformed into a non-smoker, and E X smoker. For four years I have not smoked. I have enjoyed all that I did enjoy about smoking and none of what I didn't. No tar, no ash, no burns, no waste, and it has been affordable, accessible and available to me and millions of others. We have formed coalitions to protect our lives from those who seem intent on banning our use of what has been the greatest liberator from smoking ever available on the market. We know that Big Pharmaceuticals, and Big Tobacco are potentially going to lose revenues, as more and more smokers join in the mass consumer exodus from taxation and harm. We will vote with our consciences and wallets and we will object to underhanded greed motivated intrusive governmental controls. Our Doctor's applaud us for making this choice, why don't you?

As a harm reduction advocate, I am writing to express extreme opposition to Councilman Constantinides’ proposed ordinance (Int 0488-2014) that would ban the sale of flavored vapor products in New York City. NYC already prohibits the sale of these products to anyone under the age of 21. If preventing youth uptake of these products is truly the goal, then they city would do well to enforce the existing laws.

We know from a recent survey that adults prefer flavors other than traditional tobacco and menthol (http://vaping.com/data/big-survey-2014-initial-findings-eliquid ). Flavors are an important aspect of vapor products as they help former smokers disassociate nicotine consumption from inhaling smoke. Prohibiting flavor options creates a barrier to becoming smoke free and as a result hundreds of thousands of NYC residents will actually be encouraged to continue smoking instead of making the switch to a product that is estimated to be 99% less hazardous than smoking

I along with my fellow members of Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association (CASAA) implore you to reject Councilman Constantinides’ proposed ordinance as well as any future legislation that would inhibit adult access to reduced harm nicotine products. I look forward to your response on this issue and I am available for any questions you might have.
