A business has more overhead than building rent and a power bill if they pay all their Federal, State, and Local taxes. If you don't mark up at least 100%, you won't make a small paycheck even. I buy online too and save at least 50%, these guys are just tryin to make a few bucks.

at 4$ a foot for 3mm silica, they will make a buck

Stopped in at the local smoke shop thinking it would be nice to have a spare CE4... i knew they would jack up the price ... uhmmm yeahhh they wanted $15 plus tax for it. HECK NO!
I showed the guy on my phone that they dont even cost HALF that online.... and he goes on and on about "thats the price you pay for convenience. By the time you pay shipping it would cost you more, it's overhead... yadda yadda yadda"

You've GOT to be kidding me. They won't be seeing me in their store for their crappy products ever again.

Edited to remove store name.

Not all shops are bad. You have to realize also that suppliers put set prices on items that shops have to sell it for. A couple of my local shops have tried to sell it for a cheaper price because of the very problem you are stating and the supplier actually stopped selling to those shops because of their price drops. Some are definately gouging, but some are selling the at the price they are because of price fixing, nothing else.

P.S. I am not a shop owner. Just someone who WILL pay a little more for the safety of having someone local to go back to and look strait in the face if I have a problem with equipment. Not some invisible person in China that you couldn't get in contact with if your life depended on it.

Its the same with car dealership parts department. They jack up the price, a lotttt. They have to make money somehow. It's a business after all =)

I wrote a paper in college on building a car from strictly parts from the dealer. It took 3 months to get all the prices ( over 11,000 parts) and the price of the car prebuilt was 17,686$, price of parts only.... 96,718.48$.

Yeah, every time this comes up, somebody's there to tell us all about overhead expenses involved in B&M. So howcome the store I uses sells a ce4 for slightly over three bucks? While I could probably beat that online if I were in that part of the market, it just doesn't seem worth the bother.

This is in Farmington, NM. Now, none of the ones I've seen in Albuquerque come even close. The worst gets something like ten dollars; add another dollar if you want ce5 - never mind what they get for replacement heads.

Yes. I used to be said that it cost £150,000 to build a Toyota from used parts. (£20,000 car)
but only £60,000 to build a Ford.

sadly, many people screw others this way...

This exactly ^^^^^^ I understand they need to make money but some B&M's don't understand that they are pricing themselves right out of business. The ones that do understand this last longer then 3 months before closing their doors for good.

We have a smoke shop in town that is getting deeper and deeper into vape stuff. The few vapers in town have encouraged them. Because they have a broad base (package liquor and beer) as well as tobacco and tubes and cigs, including exotic ones, they can afford to experiment with vape stuff offerings.

A few weeks ago, I was having problems with mood swings, and went in to get some emergency nic. The price was very reasonable, 12 ml for about $7. (of course, it was 12 mg, so I cut it 50/50)

For smaller towns, this may be the best option-- specialty shops won't work unless in large urban areas.

Bulk pricing. If you buy 1000, you can get them pretty cheaply.

The fly-by-nights catering to noobs and juice-buyers-only are spreading in this industry like wildfire, as if they simply rented a storefront and bought a few grand of the cheapest Fasttech crap eGo's and leaky CE4's and jacked the price 5 or 6 times what they paid.

But if they sold DIY juice materials and better tanks and wick and kanthal at cheap prices, they would only see me once a year if that. Rather patronize an owner who is also an avid vapor and hobbyist, than some clueless flipper out to make an outrageous buck off noobs and doesn't care whether or not they ever return because he just made $50 profit on a $60 purchase.

I have a local B& M (Fluid Vaper) with a healthy website business & vape lounge on premise 45 minutes from me that is quite reasonably priced in juice & supplies. Plus the atmosphere there is fantastic. I drove out there last night and spent 90 minutes just talking with other customers about vaping and checking out their mods before dropping $100 on Juices and Kanger replacement coils. And walked out of there not minding at all.

However I forgot to get the Mrs her plain ol Menthol so after work tonight I ran over to the guy 5 minutes away from me since I know he carries a menthol she likes & I needed some replacement wicks for her ICLEAR 30.... I spent $35 bucks and was out of there in 2 minutes feeling like I got ripped off, so much so that I told the Mrs I was never going there again.

So great timing tonight to log on & see this thread

I currently live in a small town in Texas and, surprisingly, a vape shop has opened. I've referred many people in town to stop by there if they're wanting to quit smoking or if they want to get into vaping. However, from what I've experienced in my one and half years of vaping, purchasing products online is my preferred way to go. There are many online vendors out there that offer inexpensive prices. Recently, I started getting into rba's and making my own e-juices. I now hardly ever go to my local shop unless it's something I absolutely need.
