This caught our eye late last night:
Oakley City Council eyes expanded anti-smoking ordinance - San Jose Mercury News
I believe the city has learned a thing or two about ecigs since last we butted heads on the subject.
What is really interesting is that, "In addition, the city would become the first in Contra Costa County to prohibit minors from using the devices". So, technically, taking away the right and option parents might have to decide for themselves what they allow their kids to do, especially if it is done so in an effort to provide tobacco harm reduction as an alternative.
The city council has been contacted about this and I've offered my help in making sure the proposed changes can be amended into a more agreeable form. For example, Georgia HB 251 and in particular Section 2 line 96 and onward allows for exemption if an ecig is provided to the child by a parent or legal guardian.
Another interesting comment was made by Mary Jaccodine, the co-chair the Contra Costa Tobacco Prevention Coalition who said that if Oakley does not limit the use of ecigs it sends the message that these things are safe. Oh, so I guess that banning their use does NOT send the signal that they're perceived as dangerous, instead?!
