So I've recently come into the world of RBAs, have an rsst, igo l, and an octopus rda. I've gotten the first two exactly how I want them. Just gotta make this octo how I want it.

My question is:

Will it work to thread 28gauge kanthal through ekowool and THEN wrap the coil (3-4)? I'm trying to accomplish a very compact coil so as to get the top cap on without a hitch.

Please tell me if I'm an idiot. Lol thanks!

Not an idiot. Those silica wicks are infuriating. I switched to a microcoil with cotton, and It is a great performer. I also drilled a 1/16 air hole in the top valley of the cap, and I love it for lung hits. I use a small amount of cotton and drip more frequently, and thus don't have to deal withda sloppy mess of soaked silica. Good luck, it is a good vape when dialed in.

Ok I think what you are saying is that you are putting the 28 gauge in the middle of the ekowool to hold it steady while you are wrapping a coil around it?

It's a fairly common practice for people to use pins to stabilize silica wicks. If I'm understanding what you mean, this shouldn't be an issue. Just make sure you don't over tighten because it could choke the wick.

The pin thing like Jazzi Mike states is the way to go. Instead of threading the kanthal through the ekowool, stick a pin or syringe needle through it, then wrap a micro coil around the whole thing. Easy-peasy. Remove the needle and you're good to go.

Along with the superior flavor I get with ekowool, the hollow aspect of it is also great. By being able to stick a needle through it for stability when wrapping a coil - instead of just holding a pin along side like you'd do with normal silica - you don't ever get any unwanted space between the coil and wick when you remove the pin.
