A few days ago, I was vapeing and my uncle saw it and told me to be careful. Confused I asked what he meant. He told me that he heard on the news that e-cigs have been known to build liquid in the lungs and people have gotten pneumonia from it. So I was wondering if anyone else has heard of this? I know everything has it risks, and I know these are much safer than analogs, but that really caught me off guard as I have never heard that before.
I've gotten this question before. It stems from the fact that some people think we're inhaling & exhaling water vapour, so any water vapour inhaled but not exhaled may recondense & accumulate in the lungs.
Thing is, we don't inhale water vapour....though we do exhale it.
What we inhale is actually a glycerol vapour. Glycerol/glycol/glycerine is a humectant meaning it absorbs water from its environment.
When we inhale our glycerol vapour it absorbs moisture from the mucous membranes in the nose, throat & lungs, bonds with it, and is then exhaled as....voila!....water vapour.
Rather than adding water or liquid to your lungs or body,
vaping actually does the opposite & dries you out some.
This is why you get a dry throat when vaping too much especially with high PG liquids.
So when you get this question again you can now tell 'em "au contraire mon frere! It's actually doing the opposite!" and go on to tell 'em why.
