A few days ago, I was vapeing and my uncle saw it and told me to be careful. Confused I asked what he meant. He told me that he heard on the news that e-cigs have been known to build liquid in the lungs and people have gotten pneumonia from it. So I was wondering if anyone else has heard of this? I know everything has it risks, and I know these are much safer than analogs, but that really caught me off guard as I have never heard that before.

I have never heard that before. Inhaling the vapor from an e-cigarette will not cause fluid in your lungs. If vapor in general were dangerous in that regard, then breathing in a steam room or outside on a humid day would be dangerous as well. Fluid in your lungs is actually caused by heart conditions (of which quitting smoking greatly reduces your risk).

There was something in the news a while back about the chemicals in e-liquid containing antifreeze. This is not true. However there are two ingredients, diacetyl and acetoin, that have known inhalation risks. They can (in rare instances) cause a condition dubbed popcorn lung.

like the others that is a new one for me as well.I had someone say to me,"hey those things will kill you",I simply replied "so does birth" the level of confusion displayed on their face was hilarious.
You have done your research and have made a decision,in the case that you begin noticing any sort of ill effects get yourself checked out by a Dr. and go from there. All too many fear what they don't know, yet have no inclination to learn anything more about it than what the news(fear mongers) tell them about it.

vape on and enjoy your life:vapor:

I've gotten this question before. It stems from the fact that some people think we're inhaling & exhaling water vapour, so any water vapour inhaled but not exhaled may recondense & accumulate in the lungs.
Thing is, we don't inhale water vapour....though we do exhale it. :?:

What we inhale is actually a glycerol vapour. Glycerol/glycol/glycerine is a humectant meaning it absorbs water from its environment.
When we inhale our glycerol vapour it absorbs moisture from the mucous membranes in the nose, throat & lungs, bonds with it, and is then exhaled as....voila!....water vapour. :vapor:

Rather than adding water or liquid to your lungs or body, vaping actually does the opposite & dries you out some.
This is why you get a dry throat when vaping too much especially with high PG liquids.

So when you get this question again you can now tell 'em "au contraire mon frere! It's actually doing the opposite!" and go on to tell 'em why.

There was something in the news a while back about the chemicals in e-liquid containing antifreeze. This is not true.

In one respect this is a true statement, as PG is used as safe antifreeze in things like watering systems in the winter, however it is also used in food flavorings and many other things we use on a daily basis.

Propylene glycol

Knowing that most chemicals are used in a number of ways it shouldn't surprise anyone that one in the e-cigs is in fact used for something like antifreeze. Nor should it surprise anyone that the media will take something like that and only tell part of the story.
