Oddy (Clone) or Genesis style?

Hey all - I'm currently on a good 'ol 1300 spinner and carto tanks (Boge LR, if you care). I have found I prefer carto-tanks to any of the wicked CE style devices for flavor and convenience (I run around with a bunch of tanks in my pocket, and the CE style ones would leak if I did that).

I'm lookig to move up the chain for hardware. I'm thinking ProVari for the device (I'm sure I won't be able to resist pulling the trigger soon), or if I'm feeling particularly cheap a Vamo or SVD or something off of FT. I know there's lots of opinions on that (which I've read) so I'm not really asking about that choice, but feel free to pipe up if you have a strong opinion.

I'm really asking about the delivery device. Is the wicked style Oddy (and Ithaka, and others...) comparable, better, worse than a genny style atty? I know - it's gonna be subjective, but for a first rebuildable, I'm trying to choose what to get. I'm pretty handy, so I'm not particularly worried about the build itself, mainly performance and flavor. I would think the Genny would be more leaky if I carried it in my pocket, so that may make my decision, but I'm curious as to the experience of the community of these differing styles of higher end delivery devices.

Also, what size wick do you recommend for an Oddy clone (like the one on FT)?

The Genny would be more leaky in your pocket. I have a number of Gennies and the only one not to leak is the MiniGen because the tank is pretty well sealed. I have a Kayfun LITE which I think is similar to the Oddy. I use a 3mm wich but want to try Ekowool. Both styles are excellent vapes but different. I don't use either on the go due to their fragility. For on the go, I use a Kanger Protank, usually with a Tatroe Stainless Steel replacement tank. It doesn't leak, give a great vape and is very portable.

Thanks for the input - i haven't tried the protank, but haven't been blown away with that style of tank in general and usually carry cart tanks on the go. I'm happy to stick with that, but would like to add a rebuildable to the mix... so your opinion is that the Oddy and Genny styles both offer a superior experience to a protank or cartotank type setup?

It's hard to call it superior because they are different. To me, the Gennies are the warmest, the Protanks are the coolest and the Kayfun has the richest taste. If you need to go out and about and want a high end atty, I'd choose the Kayfun and use the metal tank rather than the glass.

It just dawned on me, if you are looking for a good portable device, try to find a Keff hybrid. Very solid, very portable and a great tasting genesis device.

I much prefer the drippers over the tank RBA's. I also don't care for anything that uses a side hole for air control. I didn't like 901 atties for the same reason, but at least Keith at Empiremods makes drip shields for the 901.

So my RDA's of choice are the A7 & the A7 Mini which get their air from the bottom like a conventional atty or your Boge carto.
I also carry my A7 on a Provari in my pocket all the time .... it doesn't leak.

I prefer the Ithaka over the ody I set up a dual coil at about 1.2 ohms with 2mm eco wool and its great flavor and vapor Its very pocket friendly I carry it on my Provari all the time. There is the learning curb of making NR/R wires. But like anything do it a few time and your an expert. I love my genys and hybrids but I only use them at home or for I guess light outdoor activity's.
The main differences in a Ithaka and a Ody are the dual wick channel and air flow control. Id suggest the Ithaka for what you described and what your looking for.

EDIT: A Ithaka is more or less a Ody V3 most of the parts are interchangeable. I have some Ithaka inards coming with a little modding Im going to make a dual wick ody.

Stay away from the Ody clone called the Oddity, I believe it is made by Tobeco. They get many reports of poor quality and leaking. For a Ody clone, check out the Terminator line which is made by Rainbow. Higher price, but MUCH higher quality.

Also in the clone line is the smaller Penelope clone, called the Euforia; even pricier! Don't know how they get that much.

Of course, these are "cadillac clones". For the real deal, the Odysseus, Ithaka, or Penelope can't be beat.

Genesis atomizers, in my opinion, are best suited for use with mechanical mods. Coils of less than an ohm are really gonna put the hurt on that Provari.

Check out a few u-tube videos regarding the above devices. Properly set up they give an absolutely fantastic vape, and are almost bulletproof, like the Provari.

yea the ithaka is the next model i guess you could say since stopping production of the ody. supposed to be just as good if not better.

ody style: no leaks, juice control, replaceable ceramics you may need to replace.
and not sure if they still use nonres to res wire setup so something to research. silca wick devices similar are ody clones and the kayfun or taifun.

Geni: have to learn a bit with wrapping coils and working with mesh. will eventually leak if laid on side.
flavor is outstanding and when you get the setup perfect comes darn close to silica based atty's some say better, i see no difference sometimes.
less to worry about with only one wire and a mesh wick that can last a month easy. and many versions available from 30 bucks to 250.

the real question is how motivated are you with tinkering, how often do you want to rewick and other small things, i use both silica based and geni's love em both. actually using one is the only way to decide if the flavor is for you.

an ody clone popped up on fasttech recently for under 20 bucks so you could play before popping big coin on an ithaka or real ody. cheap geni's are everywhere.

Lots of good input here. I think for now the Ody style may be my first rebuildable. I enjoy tinkering, and shouldn't have an issue with the NR-R build. I would love to try a Genni(y?) but fear its way less pocketable (or at all...)
That Fasttexh on you mentioned is one of the crappie clones, but I'm thinking for the money it may be ideal to see if i like that type of setup. I agree i should wrap a low ohm coil on a Genni and slap it on a mech. Which I'm sure I'll get to, but not yet. First i want a proper regulated mod, then mechs.
So perhaps i will pull the trigger on the ProVari, and the cheapo Ody clone to see what i think.before i do, I'll check out the kayfun to see how much it can be had for.

They are all the same type of atomiser,

Oddysseus was the first one.

Penelope is a smaller version of the oddy.

Ithaka is the oddy V2,can do a dual coil.

Then there are the clones of all the above.

If Im wrong on any of that someone will correct.

Im kinda in the same boat as you. Im looking at getting an oddy. I Have looked at the gennies for a long time and have decided they are not what im in need of. the bottom coil types will work better. Thinking about actually getting the oddity because the price is right..... Can't be any worse then the protank with I'm getting tired of.

Have you seen the killer 705 or the killer clone smoketech terminator. It's like a mini oddy that you can put in your large carto tanks. Cheap too I want to order one to try.

I wouldn't even bother with a vv. I started with one and ended up buying a mech. anyway because my vv wouldn't read any fluctuating ohms below 1.5. It actually reads down to 1.3 stable ohms but as I understand, these resistances fluctuate slightly sometimes. Ended up dropping coin on a "real" mech. mod and haven't even used my vv since. "Because I need it to pulse my coils" is how I justified it, lol. And many of my coils are fireable on my vv, but I just like it better on my mech. When you get it just right, you don't need to mess with the wattage. Everything tastes good!

My vv is a ZMax and I know the Provari can fire down to like 1.1 ohms or something but I'm glad I didn't spend a grip on something I don't use much. I barely learned how to wrap a coil last week, set up a genny and now using unoxidized mesh. And have a Russian coming in a few weeks (hopefully)! Btw, shorts are really easy to work out with a microcoil.

I keep wanting to get into RBAs as well but I want something with a tank. So far the only thing that seems to be grabbing my attention is the Taifun GT. It is a bottom coil top tank setup and PBusardo says it is one of the best vapes he has ever had. The only reason I haven't gotten one yet is the price. The best price I have found so far was £114 or $177!!!

If someone ever makes a good affordable clone of this, I will be getting one.

Thanks, but I had actually seen that one. It just got listed 2 days ago, so no one has it yet, so no reviews. While it is similar to the Taifun there are quite a few differences that may end up being detrimental. Smaller wick holes being my primary concern. So until reviews come in, I am going to hold off. If it gets good reviews I will definitely get that one.
