Gotta love them all especially the last one for sure.

What a diverse amont of wildlife (stocked ranch?).

Wow! I thought Mayans were extinct. Amazing how they adapted from loincloths and feathers to windbreakers and jeans to blend into the american culture. A true anthropological find.....:)

Taryn, The Texas Hill Country has more deer than anywhere else I've ever lived. So many deer that when I first moved there I asked about hitting them with my car and the locals said it's not a matter of "if" you hit one it's "when".
Also there are so many imported animals from other countries that have escaped from the ranches that some are now considered pests and you can hunt them any time without a license and in any season such as the Axis Deer.

I grew up in rural Minnesota on a farm and we also had huge herds of deer. Hunting was essential to cull them or the herds would get too big and those poor thing would be starved and diseased.

I spent a summer in Fredericksburg when I was 19, saw some of the local wildlife (armadillos for some reason loved being right where I was driving) but none of the exotic imports you are talking about. It was quite a change from growing up in an area that had no poisonous snakes and the only time you had to be scared of the wildlife was if a skunk or raccoon had rabies. Were I lived bear and cougar were only sighted once every few years. No moose there (those beasts are mean).

I learned quickly that you can not go everywhere barefoot in Texas like I could back home.

If you had ventured just a little further past Kerrville you would have encountered more of the strange imports. I think that is the area many of the large ranches are who import wildlife from Africa and India for hunting. Texas is different in that it is legal to own wild animals that other States won't allow without special licenses. Right down the street from me a Siberian tiger got loose one night. The police were called and when the officer drove onto the scene he rolled down his window and jokingly yelled "here kitty kitty". The tiger jumped onto his car hood. He freaked.
