I had a hell-of-a scare today. A wall outlet decided to go on meltdown. If I wasn't home when it happened, my house would have gone up in flames. 3 nights ago, I noticed my EdenPure space heater wasn't on. It was plugged into an outlet strip....and that was all that was plugged in. I pushed the power button and nothing. So I grabbed the strip and noticed it was really warm and that the breaker on it was tripped. I thought it was a bad strip...that's what I get for thinking. I unplugged the heater and plugged it directly into the wall...remember, this was 3 days ago. I only run the heater when I'm here even though the manufacturer claim they are safe. Learn a hardcore lesson from this ol' cat, nothing plugged in is safe. When I got up today, I turned it on, got on ECF and called hubby. Next thing I knew, I could smell plastic burning and could see a faint whisper of smoke in the air. Talk about panic! I ran and killed the power to the whole house once I found where it was coming from (wall outlet), then ran back to the living room and frantically proceeded to remove the outlet from the wall. Got everything unhooked then sat there staring at it for almost an hour with the fire extinguisher in hand. I had my daughter go to the hardware store and purchase the outlet that has a breaker built into it...never hurts to be extra careful. After I felt like everything was safe, I killed the house again and proceeded to install the new outlet. Nothing has caught fire...shewww I hate messing with electricity...and the EdenPure is no longer in use. So folks, if you run heaters this time of year, please have some sense and watch the darn things. Never leave them turned on when you aren't home...I don't and it saved my house.
