My Ti Provi (3of them) never experienced this separation...

I would not accept tech support telling me to just tap it with a hammer either!

But that is what they will tell you to do. I dropped one of my minis (not a Ti) on a cement floor and the top cap almost popped completely out. Having previously read directives from the Mothership, I took out the battery, made sure the wires were tucked in, turned it upside down, and then slammed the top down on a padded vinyl tabletop. It popped back in good as new.

now there's a gap between my sock and the floor.

I knocked my P3 off a table earlier. My sock wearing toes were between the P3 and a hardwood floor. It really hurt.

Then again, it's only a 6hrs drive from the "East coast" to the "West coast" here..

I don't imagine it's something one should do on a regular basis, but I have read the suggestion more then once:

I just happened to have a padded tabletop closer at hand than a piece of wood and my rubber mallet (which is what I would have used).

Thanks to @clasicks I'm picking up a black P3 and a nautilus P3 at a *bargain* price. Maybe I'm not supposed to talk about $$$ here, but lets just say that for $51 more than a P3 nautilus just sold for on ebay, I just got a P3, a P3 Nautilus, and a pack of coils.

Will be my 6th(!!!) joining my 2.5 GMZ mini, 2.5 Ti, 2.5 hybrid red, 2.5 Dragon mini, and a new Glovari mini (which I may try to sell).

The V2.0 and V2.5 have a O-ring around the top cap you can see that here it is not a strict metal to metal fit.
I believe the P3 is the same.

This is not a common issue. Although the top connection is press fit in, not glued. It is a very tight connection. And user accessible if necessary.
