Was reading about the guy who tried to ignite an explosive on the international flight last week...

Detroit explosive common, easily detectible - Yahoo! News

and read this...One law enforcement official said the second part of the explosive concoction used in the Christmas Day incident is still being tested but appears to be a glycol-based liquid explosive.

Well..if our pv's weren't banned on flights before....they probably will be now....

Well that was an interesting read. I doubt that they will ban e-cigs because of the one stable ingredient used. Glycol, glycerin, is used to make nitroglycerin. It's also used in our shampoos, conditioner, soaps, toothpaste, makeup, lotion, food and so on.

But then again, it's the government, next thing you know, we'll be flying the friendly skies bare ... naked.

If some org tries to use this as ammo against e-cigs I will have to speak up publically. I mean really? With the right knowledge one could make an explosive from virtually ANY household item. For that matter I made a pretty big boom once in highschool with a can of lysol, a cigarette, and a cardboard box. All of which I got from the gym teachers office. Anyway..... my 2cents.... Peace.

Pentaerythritol tetranitrate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

PETN was the main explosive the man had on him, and PETN looks nothing (to this chemist's eyes, anyway) like PG or VG.

When they talk about a glycol-based explosive, my suspicion is they're talking about the chemical trigger he had in a syringe, which he attempted to use as a detonator. I can think of dozens of even more common chemicals that can be used for such a purpose - let's start with one they try to sell you on planes - booze.

That said, hysteria trumps reason, and I'm glad I don't have to fly any time soon, because I hated it even when there weren't ridiculous restrictions on normal people.

It's a bit alarming, because the philosophy of security regulations is CYA (cover your...rear end) and not rational response to true threats.

Any attempts to ban eliquids onboard won't succeed, of course (you can take absolutely anything in those 3oz bottles). We might see attempts to ban the devices on carry-ons, but it won't succeed either. They look too varied and difficult to identify, especially when disassembled.

(Though I wouldn't be surprised if anyone trying to vape a big-battery mod gets tackled on a plane. And frankly, if I owned a half-dozen Chucks or whatever, and I weren't a young, white American female [read: not a terrorist profile], I would ship them to my destination rather than spend six hours with the TSA explaining that they are not bombs.)

I work for TSA and I can tell you there is nothing planned as far as PVs go. As far as a terrorist profile goes, I am rather curious as to what that is. Terrorist come from all backgrounds races and religions. There was the IRA in Ireland and don't forget about the Christian extremists who bombed womens clinics and shot doctors not too long ago, or Timothy McVeigh in Oklahoma City. I assume you are talking about the Muslim extremist who are currently in the lime light. Muslims though also come in many different shapes sizes and ethnicities. After all it is a religion and not an ethnicity. Being a young white american female does not mean you are neither a terrorist nor a Muslim. Please do not take this post as hostility I am simply trying to inform.

I suggest anyone worried about bringing their PV through TSA read the FAQ that I have written that is stickied at the top of the forum. I plan on updating it if anything changes though I do not see any changes happening.
