I think I'm allergic (or at least having a reaction) to Wow Nuport ! Wah, my favourite flavour :(

Background: I vaped 4 different brands for 3+ months before coming to V4L. During that time, my wheezy, gurgly chest sounds that prompted me to quit smoking went away. Nothing. But since switching to V4L, the wheezing has come back and gotten progressively worse, particularly this week. Really bad at night.

I asked myself, what has changed? Brands, for sure. Wondered if it was a PG or VG sensitivity. I contacted my first brand, their cartos contain approx 80%PG/20%VG, so not a big diff. So it isn't a sensitivity to VG. Another brand said it is all PG, so it isn't that.
Again, what changed? Well this week I have vaped Wow Nuport exclusively (I say Nuport, it is a blend of 3 batches, to which I've been adding a little licquorice juice), rather than something else in the evening. So I decided to experiment.

I tried an all PG base liquid. Nothing to report there. Tried Wow Cafe Mocha - no wheezing. Same with Cappuccino. Tried Wow Nuport again plain, not blended or anything - wheezing.

This is terrible! Wow Nuport is my absolute favourite! Aside from that, I have loads of bottles of it, both plain and blended. I do not have any other flavour I like anywhere near that much. Not sure what to do now. :(

It could be as simple as a higher sugar content in the Wow Nuport. Oddly enough this is a subject Morandir and I delved into a couple of weeks ago in regard to filling. You could try a different test, but it will require a little willpower on your part.

I don't know what time you wake up, but try and go 3-4 hours without vaping. This should give your lungs a good 8-12 hours away from vaping. Then make your first vape Wow Nuport for 30 minutes and see if you are wheezing

I notice a wheeziness upon vaping occasionally. I do have environmental allergies, and I think vaping just puts them over the edge sometimes. I believe it's because PG is a mild irritant when inhaled (according to most MSDS's) and when there's a lot of stuff in the air already, vaping is just enough for my symptoms to kick in.

Do you, or could you, have any allergies?

Katz and Lisa and anyone else with known/unknown allergies...smoking and quitting might be the factors here rather than vaping. I quit once, ages ago, and my allergies became incapacitating and my allergist said it was because I was no longer smoking and to either start smoking again or face a dreadful series of shots on a regular basis...to my ever-lasting shame, I started smoking again.

Remember, quitting smoking has immediate benefits but it also is an on-going process and takes years to fully recover. What you are experiencing might not be vapor-related at all but part of the healing process. Think of it this way, if you break your leg you have certain exercises you must do following the healing process to regain full use of your leg. Your lungs are no different and need exercise to help them regain full functionality. Vape lightly but breathe deeply, if that makes any sense :) To be specific, concentrate on taking lots of deep breaths when not vaping, which should be your relaxing time. Do lots of exercises and get those lungs working again.

Also try a vaporizer to pamper the lungs while sleeping. Sometimes that helps but can also contribute to a fluid build-up if this is what you are suffering from. A room air filter is also helpful.

Above all else, check with your doctor. The problem here is not many are trained in PVs so really don't understand the dynamics. They'll probably tell you to quit using them so explain why that's impossible so what else can be done! I know because that's probably the advice I'd give my own patients if I hadn't retired :p

I can give you lots more things to do to help...just let me know :)

I ran into this a while back.. Nuport was the first juice I truly loved from V4L. About 3 months of vaping it just fine, all of a sudden I couldn't breathe while vaping it anymore. It caused a tightness in my chest I couldn't explain.

Flash forward a few years, and I still cannot vape Nuport. I try it once in a while, and the problem hits me again immediately upon the first inhale. There are less than a handful of juices I've had that give me this same problem, and they are all menthol/minty juices. But, to complicate things further, not all menthol/minty juices do this to me.

I just recently got a bottle of something called "Chill Factor" from another vendor, and this ingredient mixed into any juice (including straight PG) gives me the same problems.

I will be watching this thread closely to see if anybody has any good suggestions, because I love me some Nuport.

Are you using a fresh clean carto?
It doesn't seem to may any difference Keyzy.

... sounds like it's a specific menthol/mint flavoring ingredient that's the culprit . . .
I sure hope note Eleanor, I like menthols more than anything! :(

Ms. Katz hoping that's not the case. Only thing I can suggest is taking a day off from it, then go back and try it and see if you have the same reaction. Maybe your body just went into nuport overload. Really hope this clears up for you Ms. Katz...
Thanks M'Dir, so do I ! You know how I love my Nuport.

Interesting. I didn't get onto the computer at all, so hadn't read this advice until this morning. After posting this thread on Monday night, I vaped other flavours that night. Tuesday & Wednesday I decided to vape Nuport in the morning, cos I really wanted it. I was fine with Nuport until sometime in the afternoon, then the wheezing became noticeable, and in the evening it started to get really bad. I switched to my Woyboy/Wowboy Peppermint blend in the evening, and the wheezing became much better.

So, if I want to continue vaping Nuport, it seems I must find a cut off point during the day, and switch to another flavour for the rest of the day. If it is an issue with menthol or mint (which would be odd, given that I have always smoked & vaped menthol or mint, and eat peppermints by the pack), then I can vape plain Wowboy at night.

Snow, you know me & science, why would higher sugar content make a difference?
