After 30+ years smoking, I developed constant wheezy, gurgly chest noise which scared me into switching to vaping. I made the switch to e-cigs pretty easily, and the wheezing went away completely. I tried 5 different brands in 3 months, before settling on my current brand which I've vaped exclusively for 5 months. The wheezing started coming back, and is getting really bad now, it's constant again.

I will get this checked out by my doctor, however I'm wondering why it would go away and then come back, and whether it might have something to do with my current brand of juice.

I wondered whether it might be a reaction to more of either PG or VG. One brand says it was only PG, the others have all been PG/VG. I've vaped mainly menthols the whole time, along with some flavours.

Any ideas?

It could be your lungs clearing out years of gunk out of your lungs. Now that you are vaping exclusively you're not adding to it. I quit cold turkey before and I had the most awful chest cold of my life that lasted for what seemed forever. After it let up, I actually breathed as if I never smoked.

It could be from the drying effects of PG. You lungs are trying to lubricate to keep moisture. Some people produce more than normal. It could also be a simple irritation from PG.

Although, I would not take this lightly if this really concerns you. When in doubt, see your doc.

I've found that, for me, some flavors cause an allergic reaction, which includes wheezing. The only way to know what is causing the problem is to eliminate each factor, one at a time. Try unflavored for a few days to see if the flavoring is the culprit. If you still have symptoms, the next step would be testing your reaction to PG, then VG.

I used an ecig for quite a while before I developed symptoms so they don't always show up immediately. Maybe it's just one certain flavor, maybe it's a cumulative effect. Switching to a lighter flavor or unflavored usually clears it up for me.

If your symptoms don't resolve, then I would encourage you to follow up with your doctor.

Thanks guys/gals. I have realised it may be a reaction to my favourite juice. If so, it's a major blow. Other juices from same vendor don't cause it. I cleared the wheezing up by vaping other juices today, soon as I switched back to the fave, it came back. I'll continue to experiement, see if that is the culprit.

I cant vape juices that are high in VG, seems to clog up my lungs and cause them to produce more phlegm. If I stick to PG only juice or anything less than %10 VG I'm fine. I too have had underlying lung issues prior to vaping so this will not be the case for everyone but seems to be the norm for those who have suffered (or still do suffer) from Asthma, Bronchitis, COPD, Emphysema, ect. For this very reason, I find it necessary for vendors to list their ratios of PG/VG. I have had to resort to DIY due to the popularity of adding VG to the mix to enhance vapor production.

Hope that helps :)

I just went through another bad session this morning. I changed to a new juice and vaped all night. I got a stuffy feeling then a scratchy throat. by the time I got home I was stuffed up and had a slight wheeze. I went to bed because my band has rehearsals tonight. 2 hrs after I went to bed I woke up choking. I hacked for 45 minutes straight then off and on for 2 hrs. I took some summer allergy pills (I never take pills) shortly after I woke up because I have had this feeling from juices before. I took a second pill and went back to bed. I slept for another 3 hrs and woke up. I am not stuffed up, wheezing is almost gone but my throat is sore enough from my hack session that I might have to cancel rehearsals.

it's really getting scary trying new juices, and I broke my normal plan of not trying new juices the day before rehearsal as it takes 2 days to clear up after a bad session.

Oh my Pipeous, that sounds terrible! Seems you do have some sort of reaction to some juices.
I know some flavours make my throat feel dry & I get an irritable dry cough. Mostly these are 'dessert' type juices which I suspect contain cinnamon, so I tend to avoid them (except for V4L's Wow Waffle - too good to resist).

Neon, I had heard that high VG juices can do that to people.
