I've never used any ego products, so I can't say how good they are compared to my current setup from Smokeless Image. However, there was a thread a while ago by someone comparing the egos to the larger X2 batteries from Smokeless Image. Maybe you'll find it interesting, maybe not. I haven't heard anything bad about the egos, though, so it's certainly a viable option.

You'll get a wide variety of recommendations here. Try not to get too confused. shop around, take a look at some of the links people might give you and get what you think best fits your needs.

Here's the thread I mentioned:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/smokeless-image/314604-noob-si-x2-experience.html

Here's the Smokeless Image website:
Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Electronic Cigarettes | Wholesale Electronic Cigarettes | E-Cigarette | Best Electronic Cigarette | Electronic Cigarette
Their products are all 808 threading, which won't work with the ego line, but there are adapters you can buy if you want to switch it up a bit.

*edit to add*

It's up to you what size you want to start out with. I upgraded from cig sized within two weeks. If you think you'd ever be interested in something larger that will last longer between charges, you might want to start out that way to save you some money. There are also variable voltage devices, but they can be a bit confusing for those new to the e-cig world. I'm sure someone will come around shortly to give you some more advice about the products available.

Hello and Welcome to ECF :)

Many when starting out want to have a cig a like type of PV. I was one of them, after about 4 weeks I didn't want anything that looked like a cigarette in my hand and switched to a KGO. I think your friend is just trying to save you some money by saying get the Ego.

For me there were two reasons for this change, one I didn't smoke any more and people still thought I did when they saw the cig. lookalike and second I needed to get a better way to vape, a better delivery system.

If you want something that looks like a cigarette, go with smokeless image volt. The smokeless image battery will last from 2 to 4 hours, depending on which one you get. It is also the most recommended "mini" on here. They also have a larger x2 which lasts from 6 to 14 hours. They are reasonably priced, have a fast shipping, and have a customer service that is second to none. You can use coupon code YOURVOLT00 for 15% off. All smokeless image batteries are 3.6-3.7v

The the standard ego will last a little longer between charges, it is only 3.3 – 3.4v so you don't get nearly the same vapor production unless you use a lower resistance coil, which would then decrease the battery life between charges.

I have a video on YouTube that shows the smokeless image products and talks about what you need to get started no matter what battery or company do you use. It also shows the X2 battery, which is the same as the kgo, so you can get an idea of the difference

Here is the video:

For many people, it is easier to switch from cigarettes with a look-alike device. I think some of us forget that part and encourage people to skip that step.

Sounds like I need to go for an ego type kit.

Hi everybody....

First thing's first - I'm looking for a starter kit... I need advice...
Are the cig-a-likes better / worse / the same as the egos etc?
I'd like the former, but my "adviser" says I'd be better off starting on an ego.

Help!

Hi Paddy...Welcome to ECF.. the cig-alikes and the egos each have their own place and reason. Now you haven't mentioned whether you are a smoker , and if yes how much ? I take it you are a smoker and wish to quit. In that case the best option is to go for a cig-alike, as it will mimic the physical aspects of smoking the most. even more I suggest go for an automatic first. Even the manual (buttoned) ones would make you feel weird. Now if you move on to an ego straight, the weight and diameter might turn you off instantly. Eventually you will get there ;)...you have got some great advice above as well, am sure will get well directed here...

You have a few choices:
Volt- best cig sized PV with a HUGE and loyal following. Customer service is prolly the best in the industry. price dependent on the kit chosen. Battery life is an issue.
Kgo- a little larger than a sharpie but a true 3.7 volt PV with long battery life- price about $50.
eGo- expensive and not as powerful as the Kgo.
eGo Twist- variable voltage and kit costs about $80.
Realize when choosing battery info: 100 mah= 1 hr normal vaping before recharge- on VV at a higher voltage batts will drain quicker.
"If" you do choose the eGo stay away from the eGo tank system- prone to leaking issues. I'd get a kit with either cartos or clearos. Here's a Kgo with the clearo:

A few friends have the eGo and use the Vision clearos on them and are happy but most of my friends and converts own a Kgo.
Good Luck.

Hi there! I'm new to this too. I have learned a few things in the past few weeks.
1. This site is a great resource
2. I wasted my money starting with the cig style battery (808). They have a short battery life and, correct me if I am wrong, you can not use the low resistance cartomizers or atomizers. Within a few days I had bought 2 eGo batteries. I still have the 808 for an emergency, should one arise.
3. Buy at least 2 batteries.
4. Buy a variety of flavors of e-liquids in the 5ml size. (I thought that vaping anything but tobacco flavor was gross and bought too many tobacco type liquids and too large of sizes. Now I am trying to make the tobacco flavors taste good to me by adding other flavors, which is a pain when you are new to all this)
5. It is a good idea to get some lower nic strengths too, in case you want to "chain vape". It happens!
6. There is a vendor list on this site. I would suggest using one of them for supplies. Beware of deals that seem too good to be true.
7. You are starting off on the right track by hooking up with this website before deciding what to buy. I am way too impulsive and bought my first e-cig at a mall kiosk. But, I am glad that I did, as it got me started on the e-cigs and off the cancer sticks. I can't stand the taste of regular cigs anymore. Uggh!!! I've had a few when I have been having "technical difficulties" cartomizers and from the first drag, it is like licking an ashtray.
8. I just ordered an atomizer and drip tip, so that I can test the liquids I buy without wasting a new cartomizer on something that I don't like.
9. In my opinion, the DCT (dual coil tank) is a great way to go. The carts inside don't seem to crap out by burning and giving me a nasty taste, they just seem to not "hold" the juice anymore, or they just don't have the like new "sizzle".

I hope some of my opinions/suggestions are helpful to you. Welcome.

One question I would add on there - is it better to go with a big brand ecig, or something from the east?...
(I'm looking at the cheap chinabuye kits - any good?)

I think the biggest problem for everyone that starts out is finding the right equipment and a juice that they like. Not from my experience but I have been told that Smokeless Image (link in post above) is a very good system with great customer service.

If you started on this and and liked the juice they use, then when, or if, you decide to change to some other PV at least you have a juice you like.

I am using this KGO kit1100mAh by SLB now with clearomizers.

I have been at it for a little over a month now and love to vape. Pack and half a day Newport to nothing in that short of time. I started with the tornado from totally wicked and an inferno kit from volcano because it had a nice usb pass through battery which made the unit smaller. They are size of a sharpie. My sister started with one the size of a pen and quickly moved to one of mine. I decided to get the ego twist because I tried a VV which is variable voltage and love it for the more powerful hit. I have still not spent what I did a month for smokes so I am very happy and you will be too.
You will learn from this site and the people will point you to what ever you need. I have just purchased a new torpedo VV and cannot wait for the vape I will get from that unit. Very large so not one you would really want to carry around but great for home use. There is so much out there and more released every day so you will learn as you go along. My advice is the unit the size of a sharpie for battery life and vape you receive being able to use the clearo and other attachments.
